Redemption Wall Fairy

It wasn’t always this glamorous out here in the alley.

“Destination Mammal Cabana” was a quirky mural. I adored it & walked by it almost every day. Click on the pic to visit the post I did 4 years ago. It’s now in RIP

Then, recently one morning, I walked through the alley and saw:

It was hideous.

Graffiti Art had been obliterated by graffiti throw-ups and tags.

Using Fairy Power, I got word of the devastation out to the street artists.

Soon after, on Easter Morning, I saw this:

It was like a dream come true!

So, I put on a clear plastic garment bag and a gorgeous 10 year old Vera Wang wedding gown. I hightailed it back down to the alley,

… whereupon Tensoe painted me,

… while I took in all the new art.

It had been decided by the artists that they would do predominately Graf Writing, as a means to keep the destroyers away.

⭐ Sherrie, there’s a rat in this slideshow for you! At least I think it’s a rat. Lol, last rat turned out to be a squirrel.

After I was finished, I was named Tenesa, and had my picture taken with all the Graf Writing and pieces.

I would like to take a ⭐ fairy moment ⭐ here to thank Brenda Davis Harsham. Her blog, Friendly Fairytales is absolutely wonderful. It’s as though Brenda got lost in the woods, as a child, then was found and raised by fairies.

Brenda was one of the first two who said they would contribute to Kids’ Month. She wrote 3 poems. Thank you, Brenda!

I’d like to add that Brenda’s fairy knowledge of all lands magic gave me the idea for the title, and a centered concept for this post. In my heart I feel she is the “Redemption Wall Fairy”.

Don’t be afraid! Painted dragons can’t bite, even if they look fierce.

…. and don’t be afraid to visit some “Dragon Tales” on Sidran’s most interesting blog.

Sidran, who works with children in New Delhi (now that’s fierce!) sent us a mural from New Delhi, for Kids’ Month.

Greek Myths & Graffiti Murals – Collaboration with Aquileana

Could this be KHOLKIKOS, the serpent dragon? According to Aquileana from La Audacia de Aquiles, yes.

I agree, and this could be HELIOS aka APOLLO,

… with one of his 4 sun chariot horses.

Thinking I’d struck myth gold with this mural found at the University of Toronto, I sent pics to Aquileana, who had found murals about myths, as well. So was born our Greek Mythology/ Graffiti Murals Collaboration.

He really does look like the sun! His sister Artemis aka Selene looks on.

I am presenting the mural from left to right.

Next in the mural, there is a man behind a wolf.

I thought this would be the Olympic boxer Damarchus, who is also Lycanthropeis or the first werewolf.

It seems this couple is waving to us. I hope they don’t get fleeced by KHOLKIKOS. Hmm, did the ancients have high-rise cityscapes?

I’m not sure why the woman has 3 arms. Aquileana presented some insight. There is unity, divinity and the fact that 3 is both a lunar and solar number.

I see this in the artistic rendering that Aquileana did to a section of the mural. I see the woman’s third arm warming up the man’s inner soul. It’s very clever. Art begets art.

Behind the couple is MANTICORE. He is a lion’s body with a man’s head, and lion’s mane. Sounds a bit Sphynx-like as well.

Although he looks like a sweetie in this mural, don’t be fooled. Manticore was known to be deadly vicious.

I’m really excited to read Aquileana’s post. She is much more detailed. I have learned a lot about Greek Mythology from reading her blog. Otherwise, I would have thought this mural was just another pretty picture!

NOTES ON THE MURAL

I tried very hard to find out who the artist is, and how old the mural is. I had no luck.

Three weeks later, I returned to the U of T tunnel to scour the mural for a signature or date, to no avail.

I found an image on-line taken in 2008. It was showing a bit of wear back then. I’m estimating that from the wear I see in the pic I took below that it is 15 years old, maybe more.

Although the ancient Greeks had sundials, this modern U of T model was of no help, as I have no idea how to read it.

Thank you Georgiann! Your “Chicklets” and poems were a Kids’ Month highlight!

OMG! Emmanuel Jarus is absolutely one of my top 5 street artists, and this work is his.

I read on Georgiann’s blog, Rethinking Life, that she liked snuggling up with a nice hot drink, a good book and a cat. I don’t see the book, but the sentiment remains.

A new beauty has appeared in an alley in Kensington Market.

There is no place in Toronto where Street Art is held to such a street standard, yet, this past winter in Kensington saw a throw up devastation like no other.

Very few pieces were left untouched. She is one of the survivors.

I found this Giraffe on Sunday. It was the Birdo I needed for Kids’ Month.

The entire mural feels like world of fun & toys.

I imagine this is a magic sock filled with creative ideas and projects.

The best is that it’s in a crevice in an alley where kids live and garbage is kept. This mini-mural works so well, the trash bins go almost unnoticed.
