Debris Darling

She’s a pretty face.

I can’t believe I hadn’t found this before, on one of my many trips to Kensington Market.

It’s obviously several years old, and I’ve been down the alley a few times.

Ah, but I hadn’t turned the corner in the alley, before.

Why? I figure all those black plastic rat traps put me off. However, now with Toronto’s new mushroomed rat problem, I have gotten used to seeing them run by, in the daytime.

I’m glad I found her. She’s a darling, and there is something satisfying about finding treasure in the trash.

As I exited the alley, I noticed the shop on the corner had 2 mandala wall hangings for sale. I immediately thought of Graham Stephan – Mandala Vihara

  1. Ah what a fight to find art; dodging rats, trash, and other urban things cluttering the view sometimes, thanks for being the fearless street art finder, and thanks for sharing it Resa! Could be a nice song, Just a pretty face in the trash…food thing I am awful in music..:)

    1. JMR!
Yes, it’s always an adventure when I head into the alleys. Still, there is lots to find.
Best, there’s usually no people… maybe a few smoking pot.
Could be a song, but you would have to write it. Perhaps Maya could meow out the tune? 🤔😻 xo

  2. She is reminiscent of flash tattoo art. And, wow, mandalas and chakras! Thanking you kindly for the shout out. 😌🙏✨

    1. Oh Eunice…. It only takes a few evil hearts and minds to ruin it for the rest of us.
Look at Putin, China, Iran… and the rest of our countries.
No one is without blame, in a sense. We choose our leaders…OR do they choose us?
      A hero is gravely needed.
I’m so glad you saw the poetry of injustice, and the lingering beauty in this mural! xoxoxo
      Have a wonderful week!

      1. You as well Resa yes the world has for sure headed to the toilet lol save for those of us who grew up long ago and saw some aspects of life much differently. I know money buys position and we are but pawns for USA I saw out with all lawmakers every 2 years and let a new batch take a whack lol better than sleeping and doing nothing for 50 years.

  3. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our mural artists and to you, my dear “mural whisperer.” Her smile lights up the walkway and diminishes the debris around her. What a wonderful “teachable” moment – wherever you find yourself, if you choose kindness, beauty will join the party.

  4. Hi Resa, sorry late commenting but have been feeling under the weather (wisdom teeth problems 🤯) Glad you ventured that “extra mile” to find this hidden treasure – shame that it got covered up so much though. The Mandalas are interesting as two of my friends named Mei-Mei and Kiri (who are both Star Wars fans and WP bloggers) had a weekly art section on their blogs where they both had the same Star Wars colouring book and would choose images to complete each week and compare. Some of the pictures were Star Wars themed mandalas.

  5. Again I wasn’t notified of your post. Eeeeeee! This is lovely. A gem among the ruins. She’s gorgeous with those big amber eyes. The wall hanging are fabulous. I would hang those on my walks anytime. xx👯‍♀️xx

    1. No worries about notifications! You won’t forget me! I’m still touching up RR Mermaid. I know I’ll finish her today, but of course it’s pitch black here, so no pics today. It’s almost 100% humidity, and it’s like a steam bath out there. 106 F.
I finished R Budd mermaid last night! Wait ’til you see her! LOL

      🧜🏼‍♀️xx👯‍♀️xx🧜🏼‍♀️

        1. Me too!
HEY… for the future… not too far, we need to do “A Tangle of Hearts”!!!!!!
Your hair will be amazing! I might need a poem. We can dedicate the post to someone we really like! OR who is deserving, but not that noticed.
I have to finish the mermaids, then the new monster… but soon!
          xoxoxoxo 👯‍♀️💕 Love us!

  6. Treasure in the trash, indeed! There is always something rewarding about coming across something of beauty where it is least expected. I am also pleasantly surprised when I notice something new in areas or places I have been many times, and that reminds me you never know what you might find whether your visiting somewhere for the first time, or many times over.

    1. There’s always been rats around, but apparently there’s a huge problem at the moment.
LOL The city is blaming Covid for the rat population explosion.
It has to do with the restaurants being outdoors, in the street and the massive amount of construction going on. Digging big holes and ripping up streets and roads displaces existent rat homes/tunnels so they relocate. The alley behind my home is infested. They’ve been digging up the roads around here for 2 years and it seems the pests have relocated into the alleys around the construction.
      Very annoying! 😵‍💫🐀
      xx

      1. Holy crap! Ya, I know there’s always construction going on, and there are always rodents – glad I’ve never seen one. But I never thought Covid and outdoor would expand the problem. I am petrified of those critters. You are brave! What area do you live in, out of curiosity? Lol ❤

        1. Parkdale! Love it here, but we talk about moving a bit further along the Lakeshore.
Roncesvalles is a terrific old style shopping village. No car needed. xo

          1. Oh fab! No wonder you are always downtown – a trek for me here up in the top of the city. Yes, so much to do by foot. I envy you – minus the rats. LOLOL ❤

  7. I’m glad you found her, Resa, and that she wasn’t covered by the pallets and trash. Ugh, regarding the rats. They’d give me the creeps, but I also wouldn’t let them stop me from finding beauty. 😀

    1. As long as the rats don’t invade my home, live and let live.
Ahh, but I have rat stories that would curl your hair, or straighten it, depending.
I used to clean a banquet hall that held 500 people. I was in my teens. No pay. My parents were apparently running the place… but anyway.
It was child labour, against the law….but what did I know?
So one night I was alone, wiping tables. I turned to the double kitchen doors. They were open, and the lights were on.
I thought, “how did that dog get in here?”
NO dog, rat. Shit that was a big one… we locked eyes.
I sent it a mental message to eat all the garbage he/she wanted.
      I continued wiping tables. xo
