Frida Kahlo Mash Up?

I became very confused when I found this illustration of Frida Kahlo in the street.

You see, she’s wearing a daft punk t-shirt, and has tattoos. Did she have tattoos? I don’t think so!

What’s a daft punk? There was no shop or restaurant nearby, that was named daft punk. Good thing, because how dare they use her image to promote themselves!

Turns out daft punk is a band. Also, turns out that the piece is by an artist named Fabian Ciraolo. He does illustrations that mash up old and new pop culture. I’m not sure what I think, but I am provoked.

This doorway mural was painted during the onset of the lockdown.

Hi! Here I am first time out socially, in 12 weeks. It was great to see 2 family members.

I’ve decided to grow out my grey hair. That thing in the centre of my chest is a bottle of hand sanitizer on a lanyard. I wear OS men’s shirts as a form of PPE. I hand painted my mask.

I’ve been reading more than usual. Check out my Art Gowns review of 5 of Shehanne Moore’s Historical Romance novels, by clicking on the book cover below!

I can’t get enough of gowns, especially in a romantic historic setting . I can’t get enough of street art.

There must be a correlation?

Paste-Up Power

On my walk to Graffiti Alley, I spotted this beauteous paste-up in a window.

Pasted on the inside, you can see the glue around the edges.

I adore all of the rich details.

Lo and behold, there was the beauty, again, in Graffiti Alley. I had just finished shooting what I posted yesterday.

Again, pasted-up, this time on what seems a mud cloth pattern.

There’s more art along this wall, but I’m skipping to the end of the alley. I make a  right turn, into a scaffold tunnel. It’s mostly filled with writing, and there’s not enough space to back up and photo each piece.

In this narrow tunnel, I find the beauty, again. However, this time it’s a totally new version of the paste-up.

I squished in some angled shots, as there was no room to back up for a dead on.

The details are fantastic.

This is a very old mural, painted on stucco, chipped & weathered. Still, when I saw it, I loved it and I thought “OMG that’s young Holly”

PS. She did hang upside down from the monkey bars. So did I. The rest is secret!

This tale by Mike Steeden is one of the most imaginative stories I have ever read.

Using street art, I will present a feel that moves along with the book’s official blurb.

‘A book of mind boggling time-travel,

feverish sex, syrupy romance,

ho hum history,

a dark future, The Moon,

Constantinople,

Paris and Berlin,

human consciousness, infinity,

a tongue in cheek take on all things carnal,

art for art’s sake

and three thoroughly mad yet oh so delightful gals’

I drew one a one-eyed blue-eyed cat, for Mike. Mike, Eye’m sure this is nothing you ever imagined. However, after reading “The Blue-Eyed Cat”, which I thoroughly enjoyed,I was inspired to this! Also, I believe the video below is apropos.

My Thank You Tribute To Resa

Not so long ago, my dizzy spells and skull pounding headaches returned, breaking my spirit. Like an angel in the night (or out of an alley) Resa delivered a post dedicated to me. This beautiful gesture returned light and hope to my little hut.

Laguna Gri Gri is one of the Dominican Republic’s major bird sanctuaries, set along a peaceful lagoon flanked by thick mangroves. When I took these photos, my intention was to contribute a series of murals to Resa’ inspiring blog. Sadly, my health and the lockdown due to the virus extinguished my plans.

I will do my best to do this in Resa’s unique, artistic tour guide style.
