Cameo Blue

This reminds me of an antique coral & white cameo ring I have.

I like it in blue, too.

The profile is characteristic of a cameo carving.

The face, set in a circle, is cameo-like.

They were wildly popular with the Victorians, a renaissance from the Renaissance,

… in a Victorian garden.

So, you might ask outside of the fact that the band’s name is Cameo and that there is a blue hue to much of the video, what it has to do with Victorian or Renaissance cameos?

Nothing, but it’s got a great beat you can dance to and Larry Blackmon’s red cod piece is outstandingly hilarious!

  1. It’s a lovely mural, Resa. And you know how I love blue!

I see what you mean about it resembling a cameo. The shading makes her profile almost look 3D.

Cameos go back to ancient times. I suspect the Victorian love of them coincides with all the archeological digs going on a that time and antiquities brought back to museums and private collections in England, France, the US, etc. (Some now returned to their home countries.)

I found this brief article on cameos: https://www.metmuseum.org/essays/cameo-appearances

    1. Thanks for the link Merril!
…and here I thought it was always a woman’s face or form carved into cameos. Interesting how important people were immortalized in cameo, along with religious and mythical figures.

I think in the not too far future all art will become even more valuable to some, as the masses feast on selfies and AI images.

I adore the blue, too. I overlooked it most of my life, but things have changed. I’m heading. to the art store tomorrow. I’ll treat myself to some new blue shades of watercolour pencils.
I need a turquoise blue, an azure and baby blue.
So exciting to go to the art store!

        1. It was fab!
There was a massive mural across the street and I had to …. enter/breech …. a pre-construction fenced in area to get good shots.
          Now that’s exciting!

    1. It is pretty, Robbie. Thank you!
I adore the painted alleys. I rarely walk on the main streets; only if I have to because of a shop, or there is no alley.

  2. Oh yes, Sorceress! Excellent call on calling this beauty a cameo in blue. I love it. And, I have a pair of earrings and a broach in the classic coral and white also. Was wearing the earrings just the other day, to boot…

    1. Nice, Thunder!
      I have a ring.
Carving is an interesting art/craft form, and the cameos are such a delicate example.

On another note, it’s so disgusting hot here, I’ve taken to checking out Montreal’s weather reports. It’s usually a tad worse there, so I feel better for me.
      Sick, eh?
Although, I think of you every time!
      xoxoxoxoxo

      1. Thank you.
        How lovely!!
I am awed by the workmanship.

Haha! Marc put his weather app to Celsius so he could fool himself into thinking it was less hot!! And I hear you.

Hope the air quality is better. My coworker said it was hell working at the Toronto Cruise Terminal between the heat, the air, the seagull shit (a bunch of them made nests in the rafters and the birds swoop and scare off the people).

        xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

        1. Hahaha!
          Is Marc is cool, now?
Seagull shit? People shouldn’t complain! Don’t they know it’s good luck if a seagull shits on you?

OOPS! That would be pigeon shit, that’s the lucky poo.
Although, it stands to reason that seagull digestive tract elimination surprises would be a lot larger, therefore the good luck is increased.

Almost makes me feel like running down to the Terminal!
          xoxoxo⚡️💥xoxoxo

          1. 😉

            Marc is getting Canadianised 😉

No, seagull shit in this quantity is nothing close to lucky. He said it smelled awful, too,

Good luck is when one is flying overhead and happens to nail you. When there are dozens of them? not so much.

You are nuts, you know that?

            xoxoxoxoxo 🧚‍♀️🪄 oxoxoxoxox

            1. Oh gee, wow, dozens of GIANT good lucks all at once.

Yes, does sound a bit… stinky.

Poor things. They were here first.

Nuts? … Lack of hormones is more like it!

Okay, I’ll take nuts, especially wall nuts.

              xoxoxoxoxo⚡️💥xoxoxoxoxo

              {Canadianized, eh! Is he escaping… erm I mean moving up here?}

              1. Yeah. No.

                Very much.

Yes, well… My father used to call them Shithawks when he had a sailboat…

Hahaha! Yeah, I hear you on that one.

                Nope. He has no intention.

                xoxoxoxo 🧚🏼‍♀️🪄xoxoxoxo

                    1. I do see boats, but still eat oats.
                      Tarana? Omg, spiders!??!!!!!??!

Ohhhhh Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn’t you.

                      Nothin’ ’bout boats?

Only been awake 1 Sadderday dour!

                      Ohhhh – xoxoxoxoxoxo!

    1. Hello Brad,
      Thank you!
Yes that video is pretty funky, and does contrast the art.
It’s so great that you get something out of my art finds. I appreciate that!

  3. A gorgeous cameo in blue Resa! Love the antique cameos, so pretty and perfect wall art. I’d like to wear this on a winter scarf.🧣
Grooving with that video Meece 💃xoxoxoxoxo

    1. Yes, it would be a lovely print on a scarf.
Lol, it’s hard to envision a winter scarf in Miami. I guess it’s what we get used to.
Right now it’s so hot here I can’t think.

Anyway, I started the new SC drawing with the wind and the moon and the stars. Going well!
Yes, that music is easy to dance to. (The cod piece cracks me up 🤣)
      💙💃
      xoxoxoxoxo

        1. Hahahaha!
Maybe red cod pieces were all the rage back then, and I just don’t remember.

Of course, it could just have been a failed attempt to bring the cod piece back into style .

I mean it was a good try.
After all they haven’t been in fashion since 1590.
          😂😂😂

  4.  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌💙

    🔹🔷🔹 that’s sooo bloovy! 🔹🔷🔹

     ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ 🎵 WORD UP! 🎵

     ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌💙

  5. Although her career seems to have hit a wall, she does appear in a cameo in a scene full of flowers and fake carved stone… And “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” seems to have a cameo in that song by Cameo, or at least a whistle that is lifted directly from the soundtrack.

She looks modern, but it does look like a cameo. And cameos actually went back to Rome, with the people in the Renaissance copying them when all things Roman became popular again, like full three D marble statue.

  6. So what we have here is a Renaissance wrapped in a renaissance wrapped in a Victorian garden. If you don’t love that fact, welp, you obviously ain’t got a pulse because let’s face it . . what’s NOT to love?!

    All this AND Cameo!

And umm . . that’s Toronto Blue Jay blue, yes?

    1. Yes.. a kind of cabbage roll of cameo history.
      AND
      Cameo.. love the music! xx

Yes, and I found 2 Blue Jays art today. One is a MASSIVE mural of Bautista. Yes, I know he’s gone. It’s a tribute mural. Stunning.
Exciting to shoot as well. I had to sneak into a chain link fenced-in pre construction area.
      What a gas!
If they even just make it into the Series, I’ll do the post. Maybe even the semi-finals.

      MUAH!!!!

      1. A cabbage roll of cameo history . . . I love what you come up with Resa and yanno . . it’s why we get along so swimmingly.

Sounds so cool. Gone maybe, but a special part of their history nonetheless.

Of course you SNUCK, like a kitty cat burglar, only you were doing the great good work that art lovers love to see.

Hey, they have as good a chance as any team.

        MUAH!!!

        1. Yay!
What a day! I walked for 3 hours, then “cabbage rolled” home.
Had to! It was a perfect summer day: sunny, not too hot (24c – 78f) no humidity, brisk breezes with gusts. Tomorrow it’s back to the fire and brimstone steam bath.

          Actually, Monday looks good!

          MUAH!

          1. WOW!

            Look atchou!

Yeah it goes back and forth and Imma need more of the forth than the back. I went for a run this morning, it was nice. Won’t be so nice later on.

            MUAH!

    1. Lol…I wasn’t planning to contrast the art, but in an odd creative fervor, it came out that way.

The song and video are cool, but the more memorable thing to me is the red cod piece. Lol…bring back the 1500’s!

      Thank you, Liz!

      1. You’re welcome, Resa! If memory serves, this post is the first time I’ve read the word “codpiece” on a blog. For sure, I’ve never seen the phrase “red codpiece” on a blog.

  7. Blue is my favorite color, so this mural just makes me happy 💙🩵💙 There’s something so mysterious yet soothing. The profile definitely could be in a cameo pendant or something.

Fun video, very 80s and boy, it takes a confident man to be able to rock that red codpiece 😀

P.S. Thanks again for contributing to my EMMY post, dear Resa!

    1. Hahahahaha! Whew, just had to get the red cod piece out of my system. They went out of style in the 1590’s, so maybe he was trying for a cod comeback? 🤭😂

      The painting is just lovely!
I’m going to get art supplies tomorrow. I’m hoping there’s a mural near the art store.

Love collabing with you dear Ruth! xxxxx

    1. You are welcome, Ada!
      I adore cameos.
      Love seeing you here.
Hope your first week back t work was a cool happening!
      💜😊💐🪷xo

  9. I love the soft blue hue and the beautiful silhouette—it’s truly splendid!
The way ‘Comeo’ rhymes is charming and adds a delightful touch.
    Well done, dear Resa. 👏👍❤️🙏🤗💖

    1. I agree! It really is a lovely piece.

So I’ve been thinking f you tonight. Cleopatra with Elizabeth Taylor is on.
I had to stop watching. It’s 4 hours long, and I have things to do.
      💙🤍💙💙🤍💙💙🤍💙

      1. Haha! It’s a masterpiece from the golden age of Hollywood. I saw it at the cinema when I was a young boy, though it’s very kind of you to think of me—sending best regards.
        💖💖🌹🌹💙💙💞💞

    1. Seems blue is a most popular colour. I’m not surprised.
It’s a fab painting, and I’m happy you got to see it!
Lol, now when I’m out and see a vehicle that might work for John, I think of you, too!

    1. I like this one a lot too! I’m quite fond of faces in street art, so it is in with my faves, too.
Welcome, and you have a FAB weekend, too!
      xo💙🤍💙xo

  10. Gorgeous! I think there is a whole different tool set with murals because the artist has to compensate for the irregularities of the /surface/ in a way paint on canvas does not.

      1. I know and I cannot fathom how they control it either. And then there are the muralists who paint on wheat silos dozens of metres off the ground. You can’t see the image properly unless you’re a long way away from it. How on earth do they do that??

        1. It’s a challenge to the artists.
I’ve actually been on a scissor lift with an artist painting a wall 2-3 stories high.
          It depends on the project.
If it’s sanctioned, they can have the use of lifts, cranes, scaffolding, etc.

If not sanctioned, ladders and dangerous acrobatic tactics.
Usually those end up not art, but some sort of giant tag.
They usually have a small image they have drawn, or a pic, they use as a guide. They spray some paint, then go down and stand far away to see what they did.

          1. -shudder- I’m scared of heights so both of those techniques fill me with horror. I recently saw a big tag on the side of a building and the only way it could have got there was if the person stood on a neighbouring roof WITH a ladder.
Huge respect that you had the courage to go on a scissor lift…-shiver-

  11. I love the comparison to the cameo Res. And I love those shades of blue as an alternative to the traditional orangy/beige and cream traditionally used in cameo jewellry. Hugs 💜💛❌❌

        1. Mmm, I might not have an all round fave. I have a fave colour for certain drawings at times… I love red for hair, purple and blue together come up a lot, and gold tones.

            1. Hello Alex!
              You have my email now!
Bit of a story on the wrong last name.
Was supposed to be Resa’s Work, but the tech who helped me did not underscore between Resas and Work.
Google just named me Resa Swork. Oh well!

Yes, it’s hard to pick 1 colour!

  12. Hi, Resa. I’m sorry. I always keep an eye out for your posts, and still managed to miss this one. It’s a lovely mural. It’s serene. The blue cameo reminded me of the one I wrote for The Delta Pearl, so that put me in a happy place. LOL, the video is fun too. Hugs to you and Misha.

    1. No worries! I miss comments, posts and other stuff all the time.
Yes… a blue cameo. It’s a pretty thought and The Delta Pearl is a FAB book!
      HUGS!!!!

    1. Ahh, thank you! I had to check out “A Scanner Darkly”, as I didn’t know about it. Is it a good animated film?
      I love that song too!
