International Women’s Day

March 8 is International Women’s Day.

Looking around the globe, especially beyond Europe, Canada and the U.S.A., a day seems a token.

When searching online about Women’s Day, I found this question & answer..

“What is the color of International women’s Day 2024?

“The colours associated with International Women’s Day are purple, green, and white, each carrying symbolic significance. Purple represents justice and dignity, while green symbolizes hope. White, although a contentious concept, signifies purity.”

These are the same colours that were used for the Women’s Suffrage Movement. I wrote the below article in 2014 for Christy Birmingham’s blog.

#GreenWhiteViolet Women’s suffrage in Canada

Emmiline and Christabel Parkhurst of the UK changed purple to violet to fit the slogan “Give Women the Vote,” Women would wear these colours, as a secret language. Peridots, emeralds, pearls, diamonds, amethysts, and garnets were worn. Jewelry with chains & bars denoted she had been to jail for the cause.

I made the above “Message in a Bracelet” in 2014, a precursor to celebrate 100 years of women voting. I’m also now calling it my “International Woman’s Day Bracelet

The Oscar Peterson Trio

I found and posted this mural of the Oscar Peterson Trio in 2013. Twenty people saw it.

I was listening to music on my fave music site OANNES. Socrates had posted some music by the great Oscar Peterson. I was thrilled to send him the link to this mural. I was wondering if he could suggest a piece by the Trio featuring Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown and Max Roach.

He responded back saying Max Roach was never in the Oscar Peterson Trio. Ed Thigpen was the drummer, not Max Roach. I did some searching.

Although Max Roach is portrayed in this mural as the drummer, Socrates is correct. I never actually doubted him. The crazy thing is that this mural was on a very well known Canadian music store chain, in Winnipeg. It does not exist anymore.

The building was torn down some years ago, and the mural did not survive despite attempts to keep it whole.

Here is an album cover with the real Oscar Peterson Trio. (Courtesy Creative Commons Licences)

In 1953  producer Norman Granz recorded: STAN GETZ, tenor sax / OSCAR PETERSON, piano / HERB ELLIS, guitar / RAY BROWN, bass / DIZZY GILLESPIE, trumpet & MAX ROACH, drums. The tracks were; EXACTLY LIKE YOU  & IT’S THE TALK OF THE TOWN

Read about it here on the The Jean-Pierre LeLoir Collection

You can buy the recordings. I didn’t, but I found other Oscar Peterson versions of the two brilliantly chill pieces of music.

HUGE thank you to OANNES!

Here’s a pic of me taken when I took those pics. Now my hair is grey. Time is a thief!

It’s a Dog’s Life

Good ARFternoon! As a monocle wearing dog, I look much smarter than other dogs.

However, looks and brains  aren’t everything. Heart is also most important.

So, my pals & I are here to tell you about three people and 53 shelter dogs that survived a plane crash.

We found this important information on John Howell’s Good News Friday Post

No dogs jump over the moon, in the post.

SPOILER ALERT

However. you will be over the moon when you read how some of the dogs got adopted by their rescuers.

Thank you for the Good News, John!

I feel like pawing out cigars to celebrate, but I can’t seem to get off the fence about the whole smoking thing. I assure you, I don’t inhale!

Steve McQueen – Bullitt

Okay, I’ve always had  crush on Steve McQueen.

I cut this artist some slack, as he painted this on seriously rough stucco wall. Below is the poster the painting is a rendition of. There are many Bullitt posters, but I didn’t see the exact one the artist painted.

You can buy various size repros of the poster, starting at $25.00. However, I saw an original (1968 – mint condition) theatre size poster for sale in the U.K. £4,500.00.

MANY say the car chase in Bullitt is the greatest car chase ever filmed. I agree. It’s real. No CGI! Steve McQueen was credited with the driving during the chase sequence. Actually it was shared with Bud Ekins, one of Hollywood’s best stunt drivers.

The chase kicks in at 3 minutes, but dial it back to the beginning for the full effect of this 10 minute masterpiece.

In 2020, the green Mustang sold at auction for 3.4 million dollars.

🦄 Cumpleaños de Aquileana 💜

🎂 Happy birthday, dear Aquileana! 🎂

We’ve shared many posts, and all are very special to me.

Other than the opening shot, I’m moving left to right.

I’ve been saving this mural for a special occasion. Wishing you a wonderful birthday, and thanking you for all the spectacular posts we’ve done together is a perfect time.

Of course, I was hoping to find some Scorpio themed street art with a Scorpion in it, but no such luck.

However, this First Nations inspired art is filled with the mystic,

much like Greek Mythology and the Tarot,

… and much like you.

🦄 HAPPY BIRTHDAY,  AQUILEANA 💜
