You’ve Got To Run (Spirit Of The Wind) w/ Sundance Song

A new Indigenous inspired mural, by Philip Cote, graces my hood; the Village of Roncesvalles.

A new to me song, by Buffy Saint Marie & throat singer Tanya Tagaq, graces my spirit. You Got To Run (Spirit Of The Wind) is the most powerful song I’ve ever heard.

I’M BLOWN AWAY

You could listen while perusing the rest of the mural, but I doubt you will be able to take your focus off of the intense performances.

Here are some of the murals hi-lights.

Philip Cote says about the mural “I am here doing a Sundance song to honour the ancestors and recognize where I come from”

Roncesvalles was originally settled by Colonel Walter O’Hara in 1850. O’Hara (Irish), a soldier in the British army was captured by the French in the Roncesvalles Gorge in Spain; hence the name Roncesvalles.

Buffy, a multi-media artist, rose to prominence  in the late  60’s, with the  folk  music  movement.  However, once she began using her voice to support native causes, her songs were  censored in  the USA, and yanked from playlists.

Someone said (paraphrasing) It’s amazing how afraid powerful men in suits are, of a girl with a guitar.

L’Italia

The cat is my fave element of this wall art.

The cat lives in an alley, in a piece of alley art, somewhere in Little Italy.

Sam The Record Man is part of Toronto’s history.

So are the many delicious Italian restaurants that grace our city. As a vegetarian, I’m always guaranteed a yummy meal, at an Italian restaurant. Okay, I’m a pasta junkie, but the ultimate is Fiori di Zucca.

It is zucchini flowers tossed in flour, and flash fried. This is the one I love. Some are stuffed with ricotta & mint or bocconcini & dipped in a batter. There are many variations. A generous squeeze of lemon, on the crispy delights, is a must.

🎨 Frida Kahlo 🎨

This is the second Frida Kahlo piece I’ve found.

I met the artist, Anya, while traversing alleys and parking lots. OMG! She was so neat. She spent time chit-chatting with me.

She said the art would be done by Thursday end. She had another art engagement on Friday. I didn’t think Anya & MSKA, who was assisting with B.G., would make the date. Wednesday rained all day.

She showed me the self portrait she was basing this mural on.

LOVE the hand/glove earrings!!!

I went back Sunday. It’s not quite finished, but I shot it anyway. I don’t know when I’ll get back there.

I adore the way she has Frida emerging out of the wings of a Monarch. When I returned, dumpsters had been moved in.

I shoot them as I get them.

Wild Life

It’s a sweet, imaginative piece in a parking lot.

I mean, here’s Toronto’s cityscape, CN Tower and all, with a parrot and elephants.

… and a BUNNY!

The wall dints in & out.

BEST PART OF THE MURAL IS THE CAT BELOW

Around the final corner is a trapped elk.

At least I caught his reflection.

Not only was he trapped by a car,

… he was imprisoned, which is how I found the painting. I had to find out how to get a better shot of him. That’s when I found the rest!

Crazy Free Art to Music II – w/ Engagement Congratulations to Christy Birmingham

Live music and art supples have never been so much fun.

The drawings have been happening since my last Crazy Free Art to Music post.

Thought I’d posted the one below, but I can’t find it anywhere.

This is  Holly, from House of Heart, musing me. It’s a Free Art to Music piece, an early feel  for a Princess Blue Holly. Looks a bit like Harley Quinn, but I still love it!

Holly, again…LOL…I was working on alter ego ideas. Why I thought of turning Princess Blue Holly into a Rose Fairy, I’m not sure? Still, the pencil & water colour crayon came out lovely.

🌹♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️🌹

The band was playing and I was going crazy when I thought of Christy Birmingham being engaged. We’ve done more than several posts together on women’s rights. This happiness came out of me!
