Buddha Mural

“Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.”

What would a Buddha post be without a few of his quotes?

“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.”

“What we think we become.”

“The foot feels the foot when it feels the ground.”

“You will not be punished for your anger. You will be punished by your anger.”

In 1957 there was a parade in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to celebrate Buddha’s 2500th birthday. That would make Buddha 2578 years old.

Brian (Equinoxo21) was in Phnom Penh that year. He stayed home, but his dad took footage of the birthday celebration parade organized by  Prince Norodom Siahnouk.

  1. There is a sense of peace and tranquility flowing from the mural. I like the quotations, especially the candle one.

It’s good the parades returned in Cambodia after the genocide years of the 1970s. We could use a Buddha parade of peace here.

    1. Yes, I think the artist captured Buddha’s peacefulness.

Ahh, the candle quote is a great one. I had a lot to choose from. Of course the foot quote is my fave.

Agree! The 70’s were horrific. It seems Pol Pot types keep coming to forefronts in the history of out planet.

Yes, and Yes! Buddha parade of peace would be great.
Hmm, seems many can’t handle the Pope being NOT from their religion, so Buddha would probably be unpopular as well.

A Parade of Peace might squeak through the hate.

  2. The colors are incredible! I love the way the door, hand rail, and stairs are included in the art; I didn’t even notice them until much closer inspection, as the artist has incorporated them so well into the whole mural! A testament to the adaptability of street art. It’s so peaceful and uplifting. Thanks for sharing ☮️🪷💜

    1. The colours are wonderful.

Agree! I adore the way wall artists manage to incorporate doors, wires, drainpipes etc.

They are also good at ignoring or working around windows.
It is an uplifting, and yes, peaceful work of art.

      I love sharing the art!
      Will be sharing yours soon(ish)

        1. Agree with the IBW too!

Yeah.. the art under and on the stairs, blocked by trash bins and cars.

Such are the woes of a street art photographer!

  3. What a wonderful mural and post, dahling! And since I’ve been on tinies lately, here’s another one: “If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly our whole life would change.” 😉

    Love and many hugs and

    slobberies of course!

    1. Ahh, a lovely quote. There are so many to choose from, and they are all meaningful.

I think the quote you chose could apply to art, as well. I believe many don’t see art, they just walk by it.

  4. I agree with the Introverted Bookworm about how beautifully the stairway is incorporated into the mural. Very clever and artfully done!! I also love being reminded of some of the Buddha’s wisdom AND the reflections you noticed in a nearby car’s windows. Thank you!

    1. You are welcome, Will!
It’s a wonderful wall painting. It was neat looking up Buddha sayings. There sure is a lot to choose from.
I’m always up for some wisdom. Be well!

    1. Back at you brother Graham!

I find myself hoping to find mandala art when I’m out there hunting. I found a sort of mandala..
Guess I’ll put it in a lonely mandala folder, and just keep searching!

    1. I understand, and the colours are so uplifting and peaceful all at once.
It’s quite a wonderful time just to stand by it and look at it.

    1. Now I missed this comment.
I wonder if Buddha has any quotes that apply to comments? (kidding around) but I’m sure he has advice on frustrations.

It’s a great mural. Wish you were here to see it!
I’d take you to all the art places!

      1. We’d wear our comfiest shoes and Jackie Kennedy sunglasses 😎 😎 and we could cover miles taking photos. I want to hit the museum so we can sit on The Marble benches and whisper back and forth about the different art styles. 🎨🖼️Then head for the cafe for croissants and espresso ☕️, so sophisticated ! Then it’s nap time. 💤 wouldn’t it be lovely !
        🥰 XO❤️XO❤️XO🥰

  5. What a beautiful find, wonderfully shared by you, our Sorceress!

I, too, love that the stairs and handrail are incorporated into the mural. Brilliant (in colour, design, flow).

Love the Buddha’s quotes – he was a wise man, indeed.

    1. Hmm, It seems that way, Dave. Yet, there is so much city in the city, the art can be hard to spot.
Not for me, of course! 😊
I do see people walk by massive murals and not see them. They see me taking pics. Then they look to see what I’m taking a pic of.
THEN they see the mural, and do double takes. 😳

Anyway, as long as there keeps being street art, and I can walk and afford a camera and computer, I will keep on posting it. 🧐

    1. I was thinking next week.
I’m just finishing up a post on Contemporary Art with another blogger. I’m waiting on their feedback, then I’ll do any editing needed.

Once my brain is free from that, I can focus the art that we are sharing.

I’ll use the email attached to your WP account. As a matter of fact, I’ll shoot you an email after this comment, just so we can get connected!

    1. Thank you Brad!

I feel this is a timely find. It’s amazing how old Buddha is, how long his philosophies have been around.

Lol, I’m thrilled you got my dirty car/reflection comment.

        1. Well, if you put it that way…. thank you!
(Geez 🫣) Now, to convince my cat!
          🏆🐂🐖🐂🌟🐖🐂🐖🏆

    1. ThanksJ an! Just call me Resaha. Lol. Honestly, the cleaner the car, the better it reflects the art.
Yes, I thought a lot about the anger quote, as there is a lot to be angry about these days.

It’s about using the energy the anger generates to do good, to turn things around.

Maybe I should just stick to car wisdoms. lol

    1. Thanks Dave! Lol, of course the painting is divine to take pics of.
I was wondering if any would get a chuckle out of my quote. 🤭

  6. The murals, the quotes, what is NOT to love about the latest Resa post?

Buddha was a very wise man, it’s no wonder his lessons live on.

    1. What’s not? I give up? 🧐 😉

Quotes of wisdom free from a uni-god based religion hold weight for me.
      MUAH! – quoth I

    1. The colours are great. What I like about th quotes is that they are merely words of wisdom, not sayings almighty from a uni-god based religion.

Glad you mentioned Brian’s video. It’s quite special. I hope other watched it, too! xx

  7. Wow, what a stunning mural!! Great shots, Resa, I love everything about this Buddha mural… the color scheme is beautiful, love the water lilies and leaves all around him. Love the quotes, too, fantastic post all around! 😍🫶💘❦ ♡ ♥

    1. Thank you, Ruth!

It really is a terrific work of art. It’s such a wonderful experience to be walking in a drab, quiet alley, then suddenly the colours!

Like an arrow to the bullseye, I fly to the colour, and there’s art, in this case Buddha.

Now I feel like gong out to look for art.
      🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸xoxoxo

      1. That is so cool that you managed to find SO MANY amazing street art in Toronto! I bet it’s such a rush when you see such beauty emerge before your eyes! I did capture a couple of murals while in Portugal and I thought of you right away!

          1. Hey Resa!! Sorry I’ve been out and about all weekend that I hadn’t had a chance to respond.

Bummer, I only took two mural photos 😦 One of them is a panorama as it was an entire wall. I wish I had taken more but I took more pics of the colorful architecture and houses in Lisbon, Cascais, Sintra and Porto. We gotta figure out another topic to collab again soon!!

    1. Thank you, Miriam!
      I totally agree.
It would have been nice to get pics without cars and trash bins, but these are always issues when shooting street art. 🌸

Splendid! I love “a dirty car is a dull mirror.” LOL! Makes me think I should wash my car. . . but then, maybe I don’t want to look into that mirror! 😉

    1. Lol!

I try not to overlook in mirrors, but the art is beautiful in reflections, espicially if the car is clean.

Thanks for popping by and commenting Camilla! ❦🌸

  9. Wow! What an instructive and illustrated article! Buddha may be a billion years old; he will always live on.
Thank you for this capture and wise quotes, dear friend.

    🤙🙏👏🌹💞

    1. It was a stroke of good fortune to find this painting, Aladin! Now that I think about it, I should have tried to rub where his tummy is, near the ground.

There are so many Buddha quotes. It was hard to chose.

Great to see you are visiting. Perhaps you will do a post soon!

I’m hoping to hear more good news on your recovery!

      xoxo❦🌸❦🌸

  10. Awesome on all counts, Resa! The murals are amazing, and I love the first quote and the one about anger, but all are powerful. Wonderful post and uplifting which is appreciated! Hugs! xoxoxoxoxo

    1. Lauren, I’m thrill you found the post uplifting. The colours in the art are certainly happy and Buddha seems calm and wise.

We need all of the colours of happiness, hope and honour we can feast our eyes on.
      Big Hugs!!!!

    1. My pleasure, Jo.
It is amazing that from over 2500 years ago, his quotes are still relevant.
      man never learns. xoxo

  11. A terrific post, Resa. I love the Buddha mural. If I were religious, I would be Buddhist as many of its principles appeal to me. Thank you for sharing the quotes. I like this one best: “You will not be punished for your anger. You will be punished by your anger.”

    1. Thanks Robbie!

      It’s a wonderful mural.

I think the appealing part of Buddhism is that there is no one supreme god. It is more of a philosophy.

I did some checking, and there have been wars in the name of Buddha, so, it falls short. IMO.

Good quote choice! I like the Feet one.

Only 1 more doll dress to sew. I’ve shot 2 of the 4 I’m making , so I’m getting close to my doors post! ❦🌸

      1. There are always a few people who twist religion in any form to their own Ed’s. I do like the philosophy of Buddhism though. Maybe I like Shinto more as there are even less limitations and requirements. I look forward to seeing your creations.

  12. A beautiful mural, Resa, and I liked the juxtaposition of all those bright colors with the old-looking building. The quotes were a wonderful touch – so profound. ❤ ❤

    1. The colours caught my eye from over 2 blocks away. I was like a bee to a flower.

It was a lucky Buddha find, and caused me to look up his quotes. It was hard to pick just a few.

Thanks for popping in and commenting, Diana! x❦🌸❦🌸

  13. Such a beautiful Mural, and how clever was the artist to incorporate that stairs to perfectly fit into the painting as well…

I have a Large Buddha on my landing carved in wood. He is the Sleeping Buddha, There is always something about this particular type of Buddha, whether in painting or in a statue, that brings a sense of peace and calm when viewing them.

Thank you for sharing Resa… and the quotes… We need to feel and share more calm and peace.. ❤
Much love my friend xx ❤

    1. It was a happening of joy when I found this in an alley.
I espied the colours from far away. They are alluring.
Yes, after 2500 years, Buddha is still spreading the wisdoms of patience, love, respect, peace, joy, health… all good things in life.

      Much love back, Sue!
      x❦🌸❦o

    1. I agree. I saw the colours from over a block away. I knew some thing good had to be there, and it was Buddha.
      Thank you Luisa! ❦❦❦❦

  14. Thank you Resa…

Excellent art as always. (Only slightly marred by the careless cars parked in front… LOL) (Did you climb on the hood? My Lord Buddha would have approved…)

    🤗💕

    1. LOL, no, no hood climbing, Brian. I hate setting off the car alarms. Buddha would approve, the cops….maybe not! 😂
It is a lovely mural, and thank you for the excellent parade footage. xx
