Black & White Blues

It was at least a half block away.  I was shaking. Black & white street art is a bit rare.

I was impressed with how great it looked painted on a peeling tin sheet wall.

When I got there, I realized it was not art for art’s sake, but an ad. That made me blue.

OMG! There’s Leonard Cohen’s head just up over the trash can.

I get there, and it’s not art for art’s sake, but an ad about Leonard Cohen’s memorial stamp. I didn’t feel so blue, because I adore him.

I drew this b&w pencil sketch of a famous person, in a couple of hours. It’s a sort of  copy of a b&w photo. I think it looks like the person.

I got all cocky. I thought I would try another famous person, from a b&w photo. I used a technique where I didn’t draw an outline first. Rather I shaded(scribbled) my way in. I spent many nights shading away. In the end, it looks nothing like the person. I was heartbroken, after all that work.

I did a Blue Heron post a couple posts ago. A couple of comments later, Trent writes this song. He has a fancy synthesizer, and does some cool music on it. However, he actually sings the blues in this. He’s good, got feel.

He followed up with “For Her Heartbreak”. I know Trent got a new synth, sort of recently. He’s been working with it on his new pieces. I asked him what the name is. I got this answer:

“I use a Sequential Prophet Rev 2 polyphonic analog synth as my primary poly-synth and I have been using a Behringer Poly D for bass lines, leads, solos, etc. – the Ploy D is a MiniMoog clone.”

This could be of interest for the musicians out there!

Last, but not least, I share this b&w drawing of a blog pal, that I have never met. Her Poetry & Writings can make me feel anywhere from Powder Blue to French Navy and every blue in between. There’s other colours, but this is about B,W & Blue.

Pterodactyl

I found a Great Blue Heron, on a garage door.

It’s one of the pterodactyl’s relatives, a great blue heron. The great blue heron is the largest heron in North America.

I’ve never seen one in real life.

However, I have seen many on Tim’s blog. Check out Tim’s night shot of one of these Blue Beauties wading in water.

Tim’s blog – Off Center Not Even is resplendent with nature’s beauty. He’s got magic trees, owls, biblical skies and more. I can’t thank him enough for allowing me to use many of his stunning photos.

Vudu Cat

Christina Mazzulla is a wonderful artist, with a particular passion for her Vudu Cats.

I adore all cats. They are earth’s most capable hunters. The skull on this kitty’s head makes sense.

I wonder what cat people think?

This Vudu Cat is all cozy in hand knit sweater, and surrounded by flowers, bunnies  and hearts.

This graf mural is a collaboration with C. Mazzulla & Wysper.

I can totally read his writing.

Not sure who the artist of the below is. It’s right beside Vudu Cat. Mandala like, it made me think of Stephan Graham at Mandala Vihara

I find this to be a very alluring painting.

Perhaps it’s an image from an Italian film?

Or, is it just made up?

Anyway, I was and still am, drawn in.

Gotta get that reflection in the car. Why else do cars park in front of art?

Still, I want to show the art clearly, inasmuch as magically. I was out walking, anyway. When I returned 2 hours later there was a thick cloud cover.

More Than Coffee – by Lauren Scott

As a person who enjoys poetry and coffee, the decision to read Lauren’s well written book was a no-brainer. As a matter of fact, I languished over every poem and bit of prose. For 33 mornings, I read one piece with my coffee.

Each day’s reading brought me warm thoughts, stirred feelings and created a desire to be creative. What a great and positive way to start the day.

In this intimate look at her and  her family, nature plays a huge part in stirring memories of irreplaceable experiences, both uplifting and occasionally heartbreaking. All emotions are expressed beautifully in positive light.

I couldn’t resist picking my favourite poem.

This poem is an experience I share with Lauren. She could have been writing about me and my mom. I am deeply moved.

There is no copy and paste from the ebook. I wrote this out, and proofed it many times. It seems the word program likes to correct non-mistakes. In the final proof, much to my amazement I saw the title was in blue. All the titles are in blue. Yet, I believed this title was in red. Lauren, I hope you are okay with me keeping the red!

So, what’s with all the sunflowers? How do they tie in?

The above sunflower was in my last street art post. Lauren left a comment. I responded.

L – “I also love the sunflower which reminds me of my daughter.”

R – Sunflower; apologies if I missed this/don’t remember it in a post, or in your book! Why does the sunflower remind you of your daughter?

L – And no, I don’t think I did a sunflower post, so please don’t worry, Resa. My daughter is 30 and loves sunflowers, but she exudes their sunny disposition, smiles all the time, loves to laugh, and practices optimism more than pessimism. 

She may have been speaking of her daughter, yet I see Lauren in those words. It’s as though I could have just used those words about her book, about herself.

Femina Centurio et Noctua

I fell in love with this. It added an hour to my walk.

I was in a mostly empty streetcar, when I saw it pass by.

What were my chances of getting another empty streetcar, when early rush hour was impending?

Two stops later, I got off, walked back and spent a half hour shooting. I then walked the rest of the way home.

I’ve been hoarding it, ever since.

Even the darn dumpster doesn’t ruin it.
