September

Check out this exquisite mural Diana – Myths of the Mirror painted on an outside wall of her studio.

The colours make me think of autumn, my fave season.

They go with the colours in this stained glass effect garage door at The Painted House.

The same artist did some art inside the Painted House, that had similar colours and that cool stained glass effect.

Holly picked September for my recent post on Art Gowns. It’s perfect for this post. Thank you Merril for suggesting I use it again!

    1. Thank you Michael!

This work took Diana quite awhile…months. It was worth it!

Yes, AI is at a disadvantage in some aspects of the arts.

Although, once a cyborg with AI comes along, who knows?

You have a great week ahead!

    1. Yes, Diana’s piece is magnificent.

The Painted House, all the art I find in the streets and art in galleries makes me feel like I’m drowning in art, sometimes.

      Yet, I always want more.

      (😉)

  1. Once more the art of art. Wonderful as ever. For some odd reason Sarah Vaughan’s ‘September Song’ landed on my rusty brain. I wish you two ladies all the best. Regards, TOF

    1. I’m listening to Sarah as I write. I adore this song. She was a brilliant chanteuse. I love it when the voice is partly used as an instrument.

Yes art, especially in Montmartre. You must have lived there for a fair bit, or so it seems in your writing; not just in the book I’m reading now, but also the one I read previously.

      Have a great week, TOF!

  2. Beautiful mural, love the colors, a nice one to say welcome to fall, I know I am at odd with most of people on this, but when summer is leaving, I am at relief…I love fall, spring, even winter, for some months..but September is a kind of rebirth every year…:)

    1. I’m a fall person, too, Jean Marc.

I used to like spring the best, but spring only lasts about 2 weeks in these days of climate change.

Well, it seems we both have a lot to look forward to, autumn and art! xo

    1. I agree! If it’s not torn down now, it will be shortly.
Thinking about it, it would be fantastic to have an art house where artists could paint, like in Graffiti Alley where the art constantly changes.

Then again, how bourgeoisie of me to want that, with today’s housing crisis.
      Have a great week, Matt!

    1. Hey Robbie!
Yes, the fall colours are luscious. Diana really nailed a feeling with this mural.
I’m curious to see your next painting. Are you back from safari?
      hu🎨gs

      1. Hi Resa, yes, we got home late this afternoon. I am painting an A1 elephant with N autumn background. It’s all about the colours of the background which are highlighted by the grey of the large bull elephant I’m also half way through a lion – lying down this time

    1. Yes, Diana’s mural is distinct. Her rich colours were the segue to me selecting the rest of the art.
I guess the painted house is torn down now.
Did you find me in the collage? (I am not standing on the porch!)

It’s a miracle! I went to bed last night in August, and woke up in September.
      LOL! xoxxxxxxxx

        1. Yes.. art should last forever, but is as ephemeral as life.
So, I have this blog where I document street art, for 10 years.
Maybe this blog will last a long time. I will try to archive it, but when I checked on that a few years ago, I would have to archive it post by post.
I’ll check into that again in the future.
          ❦🌹

            1. Yes, it is a unique element. I find it oddly romantic.

              Worse, and not romantic;
Other art has disappeared through history: the burning of the library at Alexandria, tomb robbers, French Revolution burnings, Nazis destruction/burnings, Isis destroyed a lot of very early Mesopotamian artifacts…

At least street artists know what will happen to their art, and do it knowingly and willingly.

      1. I think we have woken up in November here…lol.. Obviously that is not you on the porch,. My darling, you are way too classy to look or dress like that… I just wanted to ask though, do you have your phone in your hand, taking pics…………

        1. November is fine. I love November!

Thank you, about knowing that woman on the porch is not me!
When no one was guessing where I was, I thought…maybe they think that’s me on the porch, and are being polite by not saying anything. (no offence to porch woman intended) It’s just that I consider myself “out of the box”.

          Yes, taking pics!
          xxxxx

          1. Oh God know, I never thought that was you for a moment, cos I also thought when I looked at what she is with you wouldnae be seen dead wi what we call a ‘baffie’ like thon either. You are abso class, end of, and look at the lovely pic of you on the right furhter up the side bar, here. All it was, was I thought I could be well wrong here re what I see re the phone camera. xxxxx

            1. Yes, it is me in the splatter painted mirror, taking a selfie in the mirror. (bottom left)
Yeah.. the side bar.. Admittedly I put on a few pounds over Covid, but have not lost me.

My big issue right now is aging. Uch!
Anyway, going out on long walks, looking for art keeps me fit.
              xxxxxxxx

              1. Yay re the miror selfie… Sighs with relief. As for the few pounds and aging, I refuse to believe it. The long walks will keep you fit. You will always be classy Resa xxx

  3. Diana did a great job! She is a very talented woman, but I did not know it extended to that type of painting. Did I miss the post about the painted house? I have been off line so much lately. I’ll have to check it out – the little hints here look fabulous!

Ah, yes, September. Second favorite, after October (November is next up, then May).

    1. I had no idea about Diana’s artistic abilities either! I’m planning to paint a poem on a door outside. No time for a mural now, but it would be a fab project.

No, you did not miss a post. “Grapes Eyed Girl” was the first post about the painted house, but it was on a garage behind it. I did put a link to the project at the end.

It was a wonderful day spent at the house.
I took a selfie in a painted mirror. It’s in the collage at the end.
No one took a guess where I was, and that is not me on the porch.

I’ll be doing more posts on the Painted House. In the meantime, I can’t seem to stop wanting to find more art.

      October.. love it!

      1. I just went back and can see you in the Jackson Pollock mirror. I knew it wasn’t you on the porch, but I missed the mirror.
I’m looking forward to seeing the posts on it, it looks like such a cool place!

          1. Truthfully, when I saw your “selfie”, I thought it was part of the artwork! It wasn’t until you said where to look that I realized it’s a mirror. It is a cool photo!

                1. Well, I just heard it now. Thanks for the link Trent!
Stevie sounds pretty great at 74.
Yes.. we need more songs in this purview.

                  All artists approach it differently.
Stevie is kind, trying to reach hearts.
Others might complain and point out the crap, Neil Young.
I hope more music artists write one for posterity!

                  1. The music here is not Stevie’s best, but the message is perfect for today. Of course, there is a deep political under-current – he is supporting Kamala for president and you can see that in a lot of the lyrics he chose, enough that this could be a campaign song for her. But, ignoring that, I sill like the basic message.

                    1. AH!
Anyway, yes, I like the basic message too!
It’s maybe not his best music, but I do like it.
Yes, it could be a campaign song. Maybe she will find it!

    1. Thanks Gi!
Diana painted a wonderful piece of art. I’m so grateful she’s letting me share it.
I loved my day at the Painted House. It was special.
      ON KITTENS STAND BY! XXX

      1. She’s been in the house for about 2 hours. So we shall see. It’s getting dark. The door is still open. I don’t know if she’ll stay or not but I’ll let you know.

          1. She was gone a long time today, then went into Emmie’s old cat house. She’s been in and out since this afternoon. I think she might have her kittens in Em’s house. She feels safe there. I don’t think she’s ready to be locked in, but she does spend time in here. The garden person is coming tomorrow, so I’m going to try and close the door early in the morning, so she doesn’t run away because he’s here but I don’t know how that’s going to work out. I don’t want to stress her in her condition. She’s so big.

              1. She will definitely not like the garden man. She stays in the house until bed time then sits in the doorway torn as to where she’s going to sleep. So far her cat house has won. It’s right by the house (in the fenced in area) so I just have to step out the door to see her. I will definitely keep you posted. ❤️

  4. I could live in a painted house! I love all the colors, Resa, and the images you chose are wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing my mural too. Yes, it took me all summer to create, and I wondered what I was thinking! But now that it’s done, I love seeing it as I leave my house. September is here with a promise of cooler weather and beautiful forests. Enjoy every day. ❤

    1. Diana,

Your mural is fabulous, and you were thinking how glorious it would be to have a mural of your own that you painted.

I have a giant mural on the 2nd floor wall of our building. It’s a Monarch and 3 big beautiful burners.
Some of the city’s most well known street artists painted it, and a street artist from Puerto Rico. I forget his name…duh!
I’ve always wanted to paint a mural.
      I will one day.

I adore the autumn, and plan to make the most of it!
Yahoo! You enjoy every day, too! 🌹💓

      1. I know you’ll paint one someday. And hopefully you’ll be able to get some tips from the experts before starting. 🙂 I do love having all that color on my wall. I smile every day as I step outside. 🙂

    1. Agree about Diana’s art.

      Yay!!!
You are the first one to bother finding her.
I took the pic in the Painted House, in a paint splattered mirror.
I never looked so good. I belong in art.
      🎨𝔛 🎨𝔛 🐖

  5. These selections are so plush, Resa. I used to collect stained glass in my previous life. I only have one or two pieces remaining from when I decided to declutter my existence but hey, it still counts!

    1. Ahh, stained glass is a beautiful art form.
Yes, decluttering is a good thing. I do it.
Unfortunately the universe keeps sending different clutter to fill in the spaces.

I just make sure the new clutter is stuff I will use, like fabrics and art supplies.

  6. Oh, Resa – this is a wonderful post – a testament to the power and beauty of murals. Every post that you create on this blog confirms how important murals are to city life. They serve as a visual representation of our culture and history. They transform bland urban spaces into vibrant showcases of artistic expression, fostering community pride and engagement. How I wish that I could have toured the mural house with you! Seeing your photos is the next best thing.

Diana – you are truly a gifted artist. I can only imagine how many hours of thought and effort went into creating your mural. When I viewed your mural, what came to mind was the idea that creating a mural and writing a story share the essence of storytelling and expression. They are only different in that they manifest in different mediums.

    1. I love that this part of my life is about the arts, all of the arts.
There are many times when I’m on an art safari, that I think of you.
Hey, how’s the street art scene in Vancouver these days?

I read your message to Diana. I love what you said. The arts are all interconnected somewhere.
Images and writing are popular in the blogosphere.
There is a whole lot of ekphrastic poetry/writing going on, or as I call it ecstatic poetry/writing.

      Hugs!

    2. It took me hundreds of hours, Rebecca, and once I started I couldn’t very well stop. I learned a lot in the process (mostly that I won’t try it again! Lol.) But I love seeing it when I step outside. And you’re right that storytelling is part of most forms of art – dancing, visual arts, film, writing, music, gowns! It’s all there. What a fun thought. Hugs.

  7. Wow! Just when you think you know the limits of art, you suddenly realize there aren’t any! I didn’t know that Diana, in addition to her excellent writing abilities, can also paint such brilliant paintings. Thank you, dear Resa. That is fabulous! Happy colourful September.😉🌟🌺🎨💖👋🤗🌹

        1. Okay…lol.
Actually you are a genius too.
Many of your posts require true brain power to read, so writing them took a lot od=f smarts.
          Thank you, Aladin!

          1. You’ve made my day, dear friend. I believe each of us tries our best to bring something helpful in these crucial times to keep going forward. Love to you, dear Resa.💖🖖🙏🌹

    1. Agree!
Pardon for the late reply! I just freed you from my Spam folder.
It’s crazy. I never know who I will find in there.
      Thanks Tiffany!

    1. I love September!
I’ll bet your lake looks fantastic in the fall.
Diana’s mural is A+. She was terrific to let me use it.
      HUGS! xo🧡🍁🍂

  8. WOW! Diana’s mural is fantastic!! It has a sense of movement that I find very appealing. I also like how much it reminds me of Tiffany glass. I particularly like Bryan Ferry’s rendition of “September Song.”

  9. Happy September Resa and to all your readers!

Oh my, I want to take this mural home!!! Diana is incredibly talented, I LOVE the colors and design of this mural. Autumn is my fave season and the colors just make me happy and gives me a cozy vibe that Fall brings.

    Thanks for sharing this!

    1. You are welcome!

Autumn is my fave season, too, Ruth.
Diana did a great work of mural art. However, she is actually a writer, and a great one at that.

I’ve read 2 of her books, and have a third in my reader.

      1. Oh ok, so cool about Diana!

I wish I had more patience for reading… I think my poor eyesight makes it harder for me to read, even on Kindle. But then again I barely have time to watch and review movies, ahahaha!

  10. Remarkable. And still done by hand. I’m completing a series of three portraits, as I’ve set myself the goal to try and do one a day… Practice! Obviously I’m not there yet. LOL.

Have you seen that WP now generates AI images? I saw that the other day. It is amazing…

    Be good. Autumn is coming.

    1. Yes, I did see the AI on WP. I refuse to use it.

Until artist’s rights to intellectual property are protected and paid for, I’m not using it and support all efforts to create laws and ways to protect human beings.

The big guys are sucking up all our creative output, and making money from it.

That’s why Hollywood went on strike.
Among other things, ( like AI movies that steal from already created movies, cutting humans out of the profits generated by their work)
They wanted to pay extras 1 day’s pay to come in and get scanned. Then they could use that person as an extra in movies until the end of time, for free.

      That’s not right by me.

Yes, besides the intellectual rights thefts, AI has some brilliant applications.
Yet, there are some brilliant minds using it for evil.

1984 is so passe. We are in 2084.

      You be good too!

      1. I agree totally. I was shocked by the results of a few trials I did. In a very short time, actors wouldn’t be needed. You generate a character. Visually. Then call a computer guy to do the animation, based on a script generated by AI, and Voilà. Don’t pay the screen writers, don’t even have to pay the extras… Something has to be done about that.
Example of a question: I told WP AI to generate a featured image for that post. Came up with a half baked image. I posted it. Who owns the rights to the image? WP, or me?
Yes, we are in 2084… 😳

  11. The love that has been poured into every brush stroke, you can feel it ooze out of each room .

The stain glass effect is stunning. Artists are creators, and you find the most amazing art creations, Resa.
Thank you for finding them. The world is full of beauty if we just take the time to look for it, instead of concentrating on the shadows.
Your post lifted me up this morning. Thank you for always shining your light in the world to show us that beauty is everywhere. ✨️💖✨️💖😘

  12. You promised us September and what a beautiful display. Diana’s offering here is spectacular and you know how I love to hear “September” by Earth Wind and Fire!
You are the epitome of all those things. Adore you!
    xoxoxoxoxo

    1. Diana’s mural is special. I’m awed by her, and grateful she let me post it.
Thank you for reminding me about EW&F!
It might have been our first date, Norm took me to see EW&F.

      Janis #2
This is the colourful pop/rock/hippy icon.
She is happy, and the coolest chick in town. With her cool clothes, big ass sunglasses, boas, and piled on accessories, she set the female look for the love generation.

It’s like (but different) from when I drew 2 Fay Wrays… the blonde everyone knows from King Kong, and the brunette she was in real life and all her other movies.

I might end up drawing 2 Janises.

Okay, let me send you what I’ve come up with so far, and we can go from there.
