Ancient China – Warriors, Wise Man, 2 Beauties, (Pig & Goose)

I found this in spring 2023. This mural runs along crumbling walls in an alley in Kensington Market.

Oddly, this pig is the first piece. Thinking about it, it seems to be part of the mural. Anyway, I decided to open with the above, which is third, working left to right.I like it best of the 3.

A Wise  man?

More Warriors

A goose

OUCH!

….and the beauties.

This is what I saw when I first stumbled upon the mural.

  1. Okay, call me crazy but to me the beauties are the pig and goose… the goose more. Mr Pig has a human element attached! 🤣😂 I wonder what the story is!
    Great find, dahlin! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

    1. I’m quite fond of the goose. I’m not sure what t hat pig means, but I think there is a meaning.
I was wondering if it had something to do with Mao’s proletariat army.
It is an odd find on a crumbling wall.
      xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxxoxoxo 🧽🧽🧽 (just in case)

  2. Super stuff, young Ms. Resa. They reminded me of the world to come. They have a certain panache, the very thing the world does not presently. Have a fine weekend, TOF

    1. The world to come..interesting.
Theres a lot of grist in that mill of thought.
TOF, I agree with you. Panache is not on the menu these days. However, panass is on the menu, heavily fried in cheap fats and salt.
      The world to come..

  3. From the pig to those of beauties, all are remarkable. I saw this yesterday in my mailbox, but I couldn’t open it.!?🤔 They are the wisdom of the Orient.😉🖖💖

    1. True, wisdom of the Orient.
Yes, that was my fault. I scheduled it for a year ago. Took me a bit to figure out I hadn’t changed the year. Oh well, I’m in 2024 now. 💖💖💖

    1. Yes! It is a fun find.
That wall is so old and crumbling that I’m sure the paint is holding it together.
Also, due to the ares it’s in, I wouldn’t be surprise if there wasn’t tags and rebel art on it in a month. 👌👌

    1. Now that you mention it,I can see the old time cartoon feel. I’ve seen other work by the artist, and he’s very multi talented. Clink!

Wonderful warrior murals. The piggy got a bit of surprise when he went to market. Silly goose in the mix.

    1. The warriors are cool.
Lol! Yes, piggy got a shock, especially when goosey bumped into the drain pipe.
I too, got a surprise when I found this.
Way before I came to Toronto, Kensington was the Jewish market.
That had faded and it was mostly an Italian market when I got here. Now it’s part of Chinatown.
      Nothing stays the same.xx

  5. Hi Resa, I have to agree about the first image you posted being the best – that mask almost looks like a lion’s face but it’s the suggestion of movement the figure has even though it’s static. And is it me or does the bearded figure with the blue helmet decoration look like Brian “Gordon’s Alive!” Blessed from Flash Gordon? Thanks as always for sharing this Oriental beauty.

    1. I don’t know much about Flash Gordon, other than the name.
Tyeth, I think the paint is holding the wall up.
I do like how it colours the alley.

      1. Hi again, Flash Gordon is the movie adaptation of the old 1930’s comic strips/books (and later TV serials). The 80’s movie starring Sam J. Jones and Brian Blessed had a famous soundtrack recorded by Queen!

  6. For me–totally subjective–the sum is better than the parts. I do like the goose, and its bemused expression. I like the bright colors, and it’s a great find for your collection!

  7. I love the idea that one turns the corner here and “boom”…transported to another world entirely. (I most identify with the goose going “boom” lol…)

    1. I agree about turning the corner, and boom! I just can’t get enough of it.
Lol! I know… that goose is a hoot… or should I say honk!

    1. There’s very likely a story, but I don’t know what it is, either!
Anyway, when I found it I was like…OH, a mural. That wall is usually heavily tagged, and sometimes a great piece of boho art in its midst .
It remains to be seen if it remains untagged.

  8. I came slowly to the street art world, and when I look at a whole wall of it I still often see what I regard as the equivalent of scribble. But within this there are often jewels embedded, and there’s no doubt that there are some superb artists out there who do truly beautiful and meaningful work. I cannot applaud wholesale, but I certainly like many of the above, especially first and last, and the goose made me smile. Happy Sunday, Resa. Nice to meet you.

    1. Nice to meet you too, Jo! Tags (scribbles) are one thing, art is another.
I present the art side here. 🎨💓
      Love the goose!!! Happy Tuesday!

    1. Thanks!
This would be the first piece of my “saved for winter” collection. As soon as the temps rise to +2C, I’ll be back out there. Just checked, but nothing in that range is up soon. xxx

  9. I love how serendipity follows you around, Resa. You stumble upon the most amazing murals that spark the imagination. Your ability to capture the murals allows us to visually connect with them even though we are miles away. An eclectic collection that comes together with style and panache.

    1. Thank you, Rebecca! The walks are a life force, and I do my best to present.
It is interesting how I find street art, even when I’m not looking.
Somewhere there’s paint shining down on me!

    1. It’s a pretty good find, for sure. I’m with the goose, too!
Hoping we will have some above freezing temps in the near near future (2 weeks?), so I can go for an art walk.
Well, I have saved a few for the winter! Hugs xoo

  10. What a treasure trove of art. Okay, I’ve been to Kensington so many times, am I blind? How would I not notice art? A lot of warrior art for sure. Love the beauties my lovely. 🙂 xoxo ❤

    1. You’re nit blind, dear Debby.
Most of the art is in the alleys, which can be a bit grotty.
I’ve got better pieces coming up. I saved them for the winter. 🙂 xoxo ❤

          1. So far! Still a few I have to jump some hoops and tricks to comment on, but at least I can now! Hey, only took 2 1/2 months! Lol Hugs ❤ xoxo ❤

    1. Lol! I walk in the alleys in the old parts of the city. (mostly)
      I’ll be by!
Enjoy Vangroovy! I lived there for 8 years in my late teens and early 20’s. Beautiful place in the world.

  11. Very neat. The order on the wall is the artist’s choice. (Who might be painting right to left, who knows?)
The order on the post is yours. You’re the artist here.

    1. Yay!
It’s an okay mural. I saved a few more for the winter. It’s -18 here. We’ve had 30 hours of sunlight since Dec. 21.
Looks like it will warm up to 0 C around the 24th. Maybe I can go for a decent walk then.
      Looking for sun!

      1. 30 hours in nearly a month? I insist Canadians are tough and very brave people. I’m not sure I could stand it. I left Paris late ’89 because I just couldn’t stand the so-short hours of light…
Hang in there. Every day that goes by is a day towards the light…

  12. The intense colors are wonderful. The subject matter seems unusual.
I have a friend who did a musal for a gallery. She had some bricks to
navigate around when doing the mural. She said it was extremely difficult.
I can just imagine what the mural artist did with this one. Interesting …

    1. LOL! I miss stuff all the time! I find comments I never answered weeks after the fact.
OKAY – I really like YOUR FW idea. I sent an email with the short story and sketches.
Let me know if this works for you. OR??
      ❤️🐭🐭❤️
