Boogapony – Hip Trip on Route 66

It’s official! Boogapony Holly is on tour! After ponying on down to a slew of Chicago’s street art, she took off in a Paco Rabanne chain link mini dress w/ Go-Go boots.

She bought this art car, to make the trip to Monterey, California. Although 54 years late to the summer of love party, its spirit beckoned.

Celeste bagged the job of driving Boogapoy’s old van. Along with on loading, off loading and setting up, she’s a pretty good back up dancer; a true Poniette.

Don’t miss the magic, as they hit some of the nation’s sweetest street art and attractions along Route 66.

Miles of Route 66 are un-drivable. Interstate detours are necessary. In Missouri, over 300 miles run SW from St. Louis to Joplin. Fab diners & vintage roadside attractions are all waiting for the Boogapony experience & photo op.

St. Louis to Tulsa is the heart of Route 66. It’s where east meets west. Much of this stretch is on I-44. Be There! Boogapony & Celeste will Freestyle in the exact centre, wherever it is.

The Kansas section of Route 66 is short but sweet, 13.2 miles to be exact. There will be 1 Go-Go at mile 6.6.

A classic pony-down will happen at the Blue Whale of Catoosa, a featured point of interest along almost 400 well tended drivable miles of Route 66 running through Oklahoma.

The Lone Star State has about 180 miles of old Route 66 road remaining.  Boogapony and Celeste getting on down to the very best roadside attractions, in the panhandle of Texas, is a Must See!

Albuquerque is a highlight stop. Here she’ll be visiting Tim’s Magic Tree Sanctuary , and doing some serious tree hugging. Watch out for the performance a Go-Go in the old downtown strip right on Route 66!

Celeste will be featured doing the “Frug” in Oatman. This ghost town, located at the edge of Arizona on Route 66, is perched 2,700 feet above sea level.

The Santa Monica Pier marks the end of Route 66, but not the end of the Flower Power Tour. You can check out Boogapony at the Whiskey a Go Go on Sunset Boulevard! Here she fuses the Pony, the Hitch-Hiker, the Shimmy and more.

Monterey is the next dance stop. Here she’ll reprise Resa’s World & COOP famous Egg Dance, in memory of the Flower Children. Where did they all go?

You’ll want to hear Boogapony slam poetry, dancing all the while! Find her at the corner of Haight Ashbury, San Francisco!

It’s the end of the Flower Power Tour, but wait! Boogapony is headed back to New York City to perform in a newly revived version of the musical HAIR”!!! The summer of love, much like the force, is with us.

I love all of Boogapony’s outfits. The art car is a good choice for the tour. I think Holly rode Route 66 on a motorcycle a few years ago. She’s been my hero ever since. You did a fab job on digging up some Route 66 history. The only thing with moving our office out of downtown Albuqueque is I don’t drive on Old Route 66 anymore. I used to drive a few blocks on it every day during the week.

    1. Thanks Tim! I’ve been working on a Dracula commission. It’s challenging to draw men. Cripes, I’m just getting good at women. I’ve finished 3 Dracs, and 4 is a couple days away. THEN, I can alter the leftover Dracs for the next episode of PBH.

I must have really needed the break from Drac, as these Boogapony drawings poured out of me.
It was fun researching Rt 66. The link you provided got me going on the right road. 😀
I found it odd that some parts of Rt 66 are now private property.

I think Rt 66 would be a “massive” tourist destination had it been kept up. Any new businesses/ buildings could have embraced the look of that vintage era.

“Don’t it always seem to go, that you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone”.

You must really miss those few blocks of 66. How far is that area from your new area? Can you reroute your way to work, so as to keep the heart?
Yes, Holly is very cool! She did ride Rt 66 on a motorcycle. Change that to amazing cool!

My new office is 10 miles closer to my house. It would be 20 extra miles and about 45 minutes to an hour to drive on Route 66. I don’t miss it yet as downtown is still rundown and messed up. Not much nostalgia now.

There is a guy who has a warehouse full of relics and old neon signs he’s collected over the years from Old Route 66. When things open up more I want to see if I can schedule a tour of the warehouse.

I-40 from Oklahoma to Los Angeles killed much of the old charm of Route 66. There are still remnants along I-40, but most of the towns it bypassed are still suffering. I remember when we would drive to Kansas and California in the ’60s how long it would take to get through the towns. My dad getting tickets in speed traps in little towns, and bad accidents on long stretches of two lane road.

I-40 is much faster and safer than yesteryears, but at the cost of small-town economies and a lot of nostalgic architecture and signage.

        1. Interesting.
Still, they can build all the interstates people want and need, without destroying what was there. The interstates bleed off the traffic, and those who want a slower experience can have just that.
Of course I know all about bad urban planning. I live in Toronto.
That warehouse sounds very cool! Maybe someone could build a Rt 66 theme park, in the old downtown area?
Anyway, I’m glad you have a faster drive to work! More time for you and the kitties and parodies and photography.

  2. What a fabulous ride!! Love the car, the Boogapony fashion and all the adventure along Route 66!! The spirit is still alive even after 54 years. I am so glad that you will be visiting Tim’s Magic Tree Sanctuary. Did you see my beautiful tree?

    1. Boogapony will hug all trees at Tim’s. That goes for shrubs, bushes and yes, tree like grasses, which definitely includes your Black Bamboo! You are right, your Black Bamboo (tree) is stunningly gorgeous!

These drawings and this post happened quite quickly. I’ve been drawing DracGoth for weeks. (He’s the one who stole SheyGoth). I needed a quick break in a place far away. LOL!
So, it will soon be time for SheyGoth to be rescued, and the Tartan Art Gowns will hit the runway!
I’ve got an outfit picked out for you, suitable for an Art Director! Hugs!!!

    1. Thank you, Frank!
Boogapony has not met the Art Gowns Models, yet. She’s a bit of a loner.
Lol! Yes, the AGMs are busy over at Art Gowns being fitted for the next runway show… Tartan Gowns. Of course first, PBH must save AGM Shey from the clutches of Otherworld. I’ve been drawing the bag guy for weeks, but it’s almost done. I find it a challenge to draw men. The bad guy in Otherworld wears a cape… very Goth, but next thing I know…it’s like a gown.
I remember this version of Rt 66. It’s such a great tune. CLINK!!! What a great idea. What time is it? Ah… another 1/2 hour to a glass of wine, but who’s clocking?

  3. Oh wow! I’ve always wanted to do Route 66 but I fear this may be the closest I’ll get to really experiencing it. But living the journey vicariously through your tales is a great second best especially with your illustrations…and you mentioned The Force – how could I not be impressed!

(It’s just a shame the Boogapony was a Honda and not a Mustang (the Mustang is a real pony!) but it still looks fun)

    1. I knew “the Force” would get a comment from you! You inspired it out of me.

I know, a Honda …… In english, according to Miriam Webster a honda is “a metal, knotted, or spliced eye at one end of a lariat through which the other end is passed to form a running noose or lasso”. Could be something in that. Still, a Mustang would have been right on the $$$!

Anyway, so happy you had a fun ride on Rt 66. I had fun drawing it all!

      The Force is with you!

      1. I never knew the definition of the word/name – I thought it was just a name. Cool I have learnt something today and been entertained.
And the Force is with you….Always!

  4. Awwwww….. Flower Power – Girl Power but mainly Talent Power whisked me up to happy cloud! Wow, Resa & Boogapony Holly, just wow!

    1. Dahling Marina!

Boogapony is at work, but will be by in awhile to love us all!
What a joy that you stopped by filled with flowers and love!

“We’ve got to get back to the garden”. For now, a happy cloud is right on!

There’s about a million flowers here now, so take a few thousand for Hera Dahling! She can sniff, roll, jump, bark and there might be some she’ll want to eat!
      Here you’ll need this 🧽!
      LOVE!

  5. ‘Hair’ the musical. ‘Let the Sunshine In’…I remember it so well. I was, back in the day…1968 perhaps…a mere 48 years old at the time. ‘Twas in Leicester Square, London my ticket took me. My the shock of it all when the gals cast aside their gear. Such a shock I never really got over it. Fabulous drawings by the way. You are very talented, young Resa. Regards TQOF…’Q’ for quivering.

    1. SO… TOF, that would make you 101 years old.
HUH! I thought you were a lot older than that.
It seems with this new information, that we are closer in age than I had originally thought.
Sounds like you have theatrical PTSD.

Thank you for liking my drawings. I have lots of fun doing them. Q

    1. Thank you, Gi!
Yeah, the pants outfit was a bit of a challenge, but I’m getting better at drawing.

I’m a bit shell shocked, and the kitties are Freaked. There was a CAT with a chisel jack hammer apparatus the size of my fridge breaking up cement for 8 hours non stop today. It was right in front of our home.

They put up a cage around the street. I closed my laptop, and put it between afghans.
      Glasses and dishes were rattling.

Jeep is here now, cleaning her mouth on my laptop.
Love to you and Em! xo

    1. That car is so sweet! I don’t blame you for wanting it.
We made up Celeste for the post.
How could we pick just 1 AGM?
      Working on it! xxxxxxxxxxxxx

    1. LOL! Thank you, Dave. I experience a lot of joy doing my drawings! You know, Rebecca is the Art Director for my Art Gowns Runway shows on Art Gowns. I’ve drawn her twice now. Next up, I’ll be drawing her in a Tartan outfit!

  6. Dearest Resa, you’ve taken my breath away again with your gorgeous art. It just gets more and more perfect and this is perfection. What fun it was to ride that comet across Route 66 and land in hippy land (no pun) hugging Tim’s tree’s with all the flower children. I adore our flower car, I think we can travel far and wide in that When the moon is in the Seventh House And Jupiter aligns with Mars Then peace will guide the planets And love will steer the stars (Hair). We must let the sunshine in and no one does that better than you my sweet meeces. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting me be a part of this adventure, you get me on your wavelength and we know that we’re half crazy (lC) but we wouldn’t change it! . xoxoxoxoxo 🍹🍹

    1. Dahling Boogapony!

Yeah, like WP glitched up, so it’s taking a bit longer to pony on back to you. (Plus I had dinner)
The car is in fine shape. Ready to rock’n’roll when you are!
So, the 7th house is so open to massive interpretation.
Then, when the moon enters, a specific element is added.
It’s beyond the number of outfits we are going to need!
      I’m running out of pencils!
We’ll need a gas card for the car!

Letting you be a part of the adventure? Well, “vice versa”, as Judy Holiday says in “Born Yesterday”.

Many are happy to accompany us on our half crazy adventure.
      I’m thrilled to accompany you!

      xoxoxoxxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

      exohexohexohexohexohexohexohexohexohexohexohexohexoh

      1. I’ve got everything under control. Lots of gas cards! We need a bus. There’s a few people we need to pick up. When the moon is in our 7 th house It is the part of our psyche that we relegate to the back heap of our consciousness. Cheers 🍷🍷

    1. AGM Dale!
      Shucks, and thank you!
Drawing away over here! Once I get DracGoth out of the way, I’ll be rolling on Thunder!
Honestly, I needed a break from all the Dracula drawing. When I started drawing Boogapony, the pics just poured out of me!
      xoxo

      1. Hey. I tell it like it is…
I can only imagine. The Dracula stuff must be rather dark.
Boogapony obviously was what you needed (lucky for us!)
        xoxo

    1. Compost?
My father-in-law always said he loved where the flower children were going, what they were saying.
He also said, as good as their intentions were, they lacked the ability to organize politically.
The Chicago 7 were as close as it came, but they were quickly put down.
The flowers were NOT popular with the status quo!

  7. Resa, here courtesy of Holly’s reblog. Well done. Your designs capture the time and spirit very well. Thanks for sharing your eye and creativity Keith

    1. Thank you very much Keith!
Holly and I came up with the idea for the character, together. We work on story ideas together.
I do the drawings and make the posts. She picks the music and writes the poems. Lots of fun!

    1. “Never give up a gold mine!”
So happy you like this. Holly and I came up with this character when we were cracking up in comments. The first time I drew Boogapony, one of her legs looked broken from the knee down.
Between drawing Boogapony and the Art Gowns characters The AGMs, RR & PBH, I’ve actually gotten better. It’s so much more fun, now!

  8. This post just says fun, fun, fun, fun, fun. Love the flower power.

I read a wordpress post today on just how much drag queens spend on their runway looks for RuPaul’s drag race, your designs smash theirs into pieces and they spend literally thousands on them!

    1. Charlotte!
It is fun, and seeing how travel is not happening in the real world, Holly and I figured a virtual trip was in order!
Interesting about how much Drag Queens spend. I’ll check into that when this stupid virus is under control.
      Cheers! ❦

  9. I thought having commented here . Sorry. I am admiring your talents to fashion women gowns and the drawings showing them .
Good luck for your grand adventure.
    In friendship
    Michel
