Queen Hera

Be still my beating heart! Is that Hera, Marina Kanavaki’s doggie?

I’m sure it is!

Marina rescued Hera from a shelter. Who wouldn’t be tail wagging happy if Marina rescued them?

I think Marina said they called her Queen at the shelter.

An obvious assumption.

Oh yeah, there’s other bits in this alley mural.

Different, huh!

I may have over shot, but it is Hera, after all!

I wanted to make sure I got all of the angles!

    1. Well, we are a welcoming country, and we really could use some goddesses.
Our aboriginal societies have a different take. It’s more about spirits, male, female, animal … it is very involved. No matter the Indigenous peoples, their varied ideas have a lot in common.
It seems gods and goddesses are not the point. Still, I need to learn more.

      1. I’m sure any goddess Marina sends your way would be very welcome by all. I would like to know a lot more about indigenous culture as well – I’ve read a few books, but not nearly enough.

      1. I guess if you are a goddess you can go anywhere any time, but traveling in dog form may not be easy… My mom named a few of her pets after characters in Greek mythology, though I don’t think she used Hera, though she did have a male dog named Heracles 😉 Anyway, I am sure Resa would be very deserving of many tail wags and slobbery kisses from a divine pup.

        1. You’d be surprised how far she’s traveled incognito!!!! 😉 Resa gas a regular update of love, hugs, tail wags and slobbery kisses from Hera. She loves her so much! 😉

          1. I’m sure Resa loves those updates from Hera! My dogs stay a little closer to home most of the time, though they have written notes to Sue Vincent’s dog, Ani, on occasion…

  1. So, either Marina or Hera was surreptitiously visiting Toronto. Now, we know Marina wasn’t traveling. Conclusion: that dog gets around!

Beautiful Hera on the wall. Great find. Perfect, Resa. Marina’s portrait of Hera is wonderful.

    1. I adore Marina’s portrait of Hera!
You are so right! This was a great find. I was thrilled the moment I laid eyes on it.
It can be very exciting in the alley!

    1. Awwwww….. Name came naturally. At the shelter she was named Queen and being such a misunderstood type of doggy [pitbull], naming her Hera was the natural choice! 😉 Sending tail wags! Isn’t Resa just super wonderful for finding such a mural and dedicating it to Hera? xoxoxoxo

  3. This majestic creature deserves To be immortalized on wall art in Canada and around the world. If only I had a blank wall and buckets of paint I’d honor Hera myself. A lucky girl ( er, queen) to land in the loving arms of beautiful kind and generous Marina. She is queenly for sure. Lots of pets going out to Hera and hugs to Resa for catching these great paintings of Hera’s image on the wall. ❤️

    1. We love doggies!
It was so great to find this Hera mural!
Hera and Marina are both queens, and I’m sure the hugs are fabulous!
A sweet piece of art, for sure. ❤ xoxo

    2. Hera was overjoyed when she saw it! She’s still zooming around the house!!!!
I can’t believe Resa found this mural… and to dedicate it to Hera… we’re both overjoyed and we love her so much!
It’s actually the other way round… we are the lucky ones for adopting her. She’s made [and making] our life beautiful. Many hugs to you and love and kisses! xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

      1. I know how treasured our sweet dogs are. They make our lives so much happier and in times of trouble they can bring a smile and comfort. You’re both so lucky to have found each other . Hugs Marina , xoxoxo and many pets and pats to Hera. Good girl!!!

        1. Our pets are more important than ever, right now!
How lucky we are to have them, and how lucky was I to have found this mural!
I love you guys! (and dogs and cats and turtles and birds and fish etc.!)

        2. Oh, yes they do! The darkest thoughts can vanish just by their presence! Wonder creatures! Pets snd pats received and she sends love, tail wags and kisses back. Love and hugs from me too!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤

      1. Leave Holly alone! You bully!
Looks like you’ve already lost half your teeth. Wanna get rid of the rest?
        🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊

    1. Thank you…. (as if I painted it) but yes, I did find it & take pics of it!
I got so excited when I first laid eyes on it! I hope I find more street art that looks like our pets!

  4. Hera: This was going to be an incognito travel…. but I was so overjoyed to meet my gorgeous friend Resa, that I invited more friends around. Hey, mom, do you mind if I stay here a little longer? [please don’t tell anyone that a queen is asking her mom permission!] Licks, tail wags and zoomies to you!!!!!!!🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
her mom: Don’t let her fool you…. she never did ask permission to travel, but she knows that Resa’s is her second home, so that’s okay!
Wow, Resa, what a find! Beautiful mural and what an honor for sweet Hera [and mom + dad] and eventhough we have no kings and queens, she certainly is queen of our hearts and we were so fortunate to adopt her. If only people knew how rewarding it is adopting a pet, shelters would be empty! Thank you for honoring us is such a beautiful way!
We love you very very much and send many hugs and kisses!!!!!!!
    😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾😘🐾

    1. Hera… You said you asked your mom! Although, now that I think about it, you never did specify what you asked her about. 😉
At least you sat long enough for a portrait. I hear you are quite the zoomer, so maybe that’s how you got here; on a Super Sonic ZOOM!
      xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
Marina! What luck to find this alley art! There was no doubt ever, that this is Hera!

Lol! I never had to go to a shelter. Stray cats have turned up on my doorstep for years.
Also, I did see a news spot about a dog shelter that has run out of dogs for the first time ever.
Seems people who are staying home, need someone to be with, and dogs are an answer.

So glad I could honour your regal Hera with this post. Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers, and all dog mothers!

      1. Well, you know, she wants to stay more with you, that’s why she asked… 😉
Exactly right… she zoomed over! Seriously, her zooms ARE super sonic! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Finding that alley was very fortunate indeed! 😘❤️🤗😍❤️
Loretta [our sweet doggy before Hera], was adopted from the streets…
Hera was our first experience with a [kind of] shelter. We wanted to adopt a pittie and saw her picture on FB, so this group of very kind people [under the name: Pitbull Rescue] came over to check the house and whether we are fit parents for a doggy. They don’t have a shelter but they give shelter, as in short term accommodation to pitties they rescue until they find parents who’ll adopt them. They don’t get paid for that, so what they do is admirable, really!
I also heard about shelters emptying… I just hope that they remember that a pet is not short-term and that they don’t return them to a shelter. Over here, during quarantine, because exercising and walking pets was allowed, I could see so many people [I’d never seen before], walking pets, I couldn’t believe it. However, since the measures were lifted, I don’t see that many people walking dogs [regulars excluded]… I hope this period was long enough for them to bond…
So, your post is actually honoring all homeless pets…
May they all find loving homes
        …and moms!
Happy Mother’s Day to you too, sweetie!
        xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

        1. Yes Marina, let us honour all homeless pets.
In my heart I feel all people who abuse animals in puppy mills or other animals in “pet farms”
          should go to jail.
Man’s inhumanity to man is the same as his inhumanity to animals.

I can see love, fear, bossiness (lol) hunger, want, need, annoyance and more at different times when I look into Jeep’s eyes. It depends on the situation.
          I just love the pets!

          1. I agree with you 100%!!!!! A person who abuses an animal will do the same to another person too!
I can see some of those feelings to Hera too but mostly I could see it in Loretta who’s fears we weren’t able to erase completely.
            Thank you for this!
            A huge hug to Jeep!!!!!!!
            Hera sends kisses and love!
            🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

            1. Loretta was a VERY PRETTY dog!

  5. What a fun well-done mural – and Hera is the perfect honoree. She is quite regal but a sucker for head and belly rubs. Besides, I also give her treats.

    1. I was so thrilled to find this, and on my first walk in 6 weeks.
Hera is a very beautiful doggie!
Treats and belly rubs…. sounds like my spoiled cats. (I could us a few, myself!) 😀

                1. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

            1. I think that last one might work… I can’t think of a more food motivated queen! oops, sorry Hera, I never said that! You, food motivated? Noooo, never!!!!!!!! 😉 [you didn’t hear it from me!]

                1. Yes!!!!!!!!!! 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘

  6. Fabulous dog picture. Excellent art. The central dog picture says to me, “I am Che. I demand equality. Woof!” And Che called his dog “Come Here”. So that’s cool.

Also, madam, those tights pictures you need sending to National Geographic so in 200 years they’re on record. Bon!

    1. Thank you for the compliment without starting a fight!
So, if I send pics to the National Geographic, will be able to see them in 200 years?

      1. I don’t know, will National Geographic still be here in 200 years? It depends if my prediction of marauding alien invaders comes to fruition.

        1. My mom knew something about that. Of course she has not returned since the last Alien abduction. So, I guess I’ll find out in 192more years.

          1. This is why you must keep wearing those tights, madam. I will pay you! Like… 0.1 bucks, but it’s a good earning over the next 375 years I intend to be alive.

  7. Hello Resa, wow I love this paw-trait! Hera reminds me of two things, firstly she reminds me of the ancient Egyptian Dog Statues (those pointed ears especially) and secondly she has the same colouration as my family dog we had a few years ago. We had a pedigree Staffordshire Bull Terrier who was white with black and brindle markings. Sadly my family took the dog with them when they moved out to the country. But I gotta say these pictures (and the mural itself) cheered me up on this “ruff” day! Thanks for sharing.

    1. Paw-trait… LOLOL!!!
Happy this cheered you up..Ruff day… more LOLOL
Hope your computer is making you more happy than this post.
      Take care!

          1. It is indeed, Resa! We are living in the moment these days. The story continues to unfold. Please take care – you are very special to me.

  8. She has her ways, you’d be surprised the places she’s been to …unnoticed! 😉 Oh, Resa has a regular update of hugs, tail wags and slobbery kisses from Hera!!!! 😉

    1. That’s a wonderful project, Frank!
I’m waiting to see what gets painted here, but no on is allowed at the moment. I found a few on my last trip out, but only one that was done since mid-March, and of course it is in an alley & unsigned. It’s gorgeous!

          1. Grrrrrr …. Idea …. CBS tends to put their videos on YouTube. Tomorrow (or after) search “CBS Miami hospital mural” … just a thought. I think their report was longer.

  9. Oh, wow. To me the portrait almost looks like a Doberman, which is what I thought it was. It even have the Dobermans’ trademark bump on the side of the head. I guess I got a bit confused, it does look a lot like Hera! It’s adorable, too ❤

    1. Lol!
Well I’m not a canine expert, but I know Hera, so that’s who I thought of.
Dobermans are gorgeous dogs. I’ve known a few in my lifetime.
Are those your guys in your Gravatar?
      Beautiful!

      1. I dont own the Doberman’s in my gravatar, I wish I did though! It was a cute picture I found on the web. But I do own a Doberman, he is black and is about 7 or 8 years old. His name is Toby. But thank you!

    2. A ha ha… you probably are right, she is a Doberman… but those ears and the visionary gaze… don’t you think? Also, bare in mind that I traveled incognito, so I had to alter my look a bit! 😉

          1. LOL!
Hey, I’m using your Pear Tree in the last episode of the current Art Gowns Story!
            🤗🤗🤗🤗
            xoxoxoxoxo
            🤗🤗🤗🤗

              1. Yeah!
It works nicely into the story. Resa’s tree was frozen by Evilomlap in an unnatural winter in the last episode, so it is still inactive!
                xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

  10. Hera looks like a wonderful dog — and your photos are perfect as always.
I have a sort of imaginary dog that I named Hera. I haven’t really done it, but I have the “story” prepared, if someone who seems untrustworthy asks me…
“Do you have a dog?” asked someone who seems too shady to trust.
“Yes, her name is Hera. She’s part Rottweiler. She’s also part Basenji, so she doesn’t bark. She’s the sneakiest damn dog. Always sneaking up behind strangers…” LOL.
So of course I had to read when I saw you featured a dog named Hera. Hugs on the wing!

        1. Lol! I know. If I go out for over 2 hours they are waiting at the door for me with that “and just where were you” look of annoyance on their faces!
Jeep is into as many kisses as she can get, and does a handy keyboard walkover. 😀
