1914 – Charlie Chaplin stayed in this hotel, which is now a scum bucket.
I did a Post on the mural of Charlie Chaplin that resides in the parking lot.

It is a special building with special murals.
Do you think the harmonica player depicted above is Junior Wells?

B.B. King

Robert Johnson

It’s nothing but the blues!

I was fortunate to shoot this “paper doll” of Charlie Chaplin on a balcony, but it was almost a storm when I did. His effigy had blown over.

Great! Thank you for the armchair trip to the blues! Isn’t it weird that of Robert Johnson, the most influential of the blues players we have only 2 photos? (One of which is used to create the last blues painting)
I did not realize so few pics were taken of “Robert Johnson”
Yet, here is a moment to keep him in memory!
What a marvelous city you live in….what appreciation of great artists!
I do love these portraits as well. I can hardly wait for things to warm up just a bit so I can wander the streets and alleys & shoot some more art!
I remember the place, I used to work Graham and Smith…i went a few times for a beer…but it wasn’t my regular ‘waterhole’…:), was many years ago, between 82-86, 19,,,of course…I’m not that old…:D, kind of bringing back memories…:)
I’m sure the place was somewhat “nicer” when you went there. The only reason I was able to take these shots without being accosted or having my camera possibly broken was that there was a large crime scene nearby, and there were police everywhere.
I hope the memories are good ones!
Already then it was a ‘shabby’ place, correct in daytime or for a few beers after work, but not the kind of place you’ll stay all night…:), I was living in Osborne village, which I loved, lot of my friends in Saint-Boniface, and sometimes we like to explore and take some risk…not too much…:) downtown area, but we were not regular…not my kind of place..:)
you are making me want to brave the cold and explore 🙂
It has got to get warmer soon, you know just at or above freezing. 😉
I find I can bundle up at that temperature and spend 2-3 hours walking around. 🙂
