Is There a Meaning?

At first I wondered what this painting meant.

It looks like a message in an image.

Then again, maybe it’s just a pretty painting.

At any rate, I enjoy looking at it.

  1. I agree with you that it IS a very pretty painting. But there is definitely a hidden meaning to his, which is what great art does. It makes us ask questions, and come up with our own answers. Well done, as per Resa!

    1. Thank you Marc!
I knew I liked this art when I saw it, but felt confused. Would I ever post it? I have many pics in my files. Nonetheless, I took pics anyways. I always do.

As happens often, later when I look at the pics, some art that I thought I might not post, becomes the next piece I’m dying to post.

Yes, art evokes thoughts, questions and emotions.

  2. What an intriguing painting! Reminds me of a Magritte painting. The more you look at it, the more you wonder what it’s driving at! It’s also just lovely to see in an of itself. Thanks for sharing. 🌻🌹🌸

    1. An interesting comparison, Ada.
I agree with you, it’s comparable to a Magritte in terms of; What’s it driving at?

I do like looking at this. Thank you for your astute comment. Love it!
      🌹❦🌹

  3. You are right, Resa. It is pretty, and it must have a meaning. As we don’t know what the artist meant, I suppose it’s left to the viewer to come up with what it means. Thank you for sharing!

  4. Definitely some kind of meaning here, Resa. Is that yellow orb a hat with a strap? A symbolic sun? Do the covered eyes mean the woman is prevented from seeing things as they are? Doesn’t want to see things as they are?

    1. The fact that the eyes are covered is meaningful to me, too. A sun..a moon..?
Then there’s that triangle. A lot of meanings to triangles, triads, (the father, son & holy ghost catholic self blessing).
      Is it religious?
Whatever, I like looking at it.
      Thanks for weighing in, Dave!

  5. I love the way you have of starting close and then pulling back. She actually reminds me very much of a good friend of my daughter. I think it’s the hair and face shape but Jema always has a lovely expression xx

    1. Thanks Jo! It’s fun revealing the art, or closing in on details. I do both, depending, but the main thing is I try to bring a sense of how I see and feel the art when I find it.

Your daughter’s friend sounds beautiful! xxoo

      1. I do keep thinking blinded by the light.
There are leaves around her… nature. I really like your take on this Robbie. Thank you! ☺️❦🌹

    1. Lol, Tim, I have had that song in my ears since I started working on the post.
Agree, it is puzzling, and I do like it! xx

  6. A stunning painting with a message—definitely! But what exactly is that message? It might suggest that we shouldn’t rely solely on our eyes to understand the world—try to perceive it with your heart and mind. 😉💖🥰

          1. I knew that! Everything is relative, and I was concerned that using the word “adventure” might be misunderstood. I was actually referring to some difficulties I faced, such as being confined with a fever for three days! 😏😅 I’ll share more details later, but I appreciate your kindness regardless.🙏💖🥰🙏😘

            1. Lol!
              Sorry for the mistake! Lol!
I look forward to your update, and hope you are all better now.
You’ve had more than your share this year.
              Big Hugs!
              💖💐💖

  7. This is a beautiful and intriguing artwork. I love the bright colors and pattern that remind me of the Orient. She appears to be a part of the yellow ball with a stripe across her eyes. Her mouth is partly open as thought she is about to speak. She is better off not seeing the world as it is. A lovely painting, I’d love to know what this artists thoughts were when she painted this girl.
    xoxoxoxoxo

    1. Yes, I feel that touch of Orient as well.
I like your thoughts and interpretation.
Thank goodness for the arts, making us think!
      xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
PS – just sent ST update! Still not done, 2-3 more nights. I’m going blind.. what an animated face and body he has, yet he’s sexy!

        1. LOL…
          I won’t go blind…lololol…
Thank you for the mail reply. Drawing ST has been a unique challenge. Then again, they all are.
          xoxoxoxoxoxo

      1. I think she is definitely oriental , the colors are those used in the orient , red and gold. That her eyes are covered, perhaps this expresses her exotic nature without using the beautiful eyes one would find in a person of Asian origin.
        Just perusing.
        xoxoxoxo

  8. Sometimes art is subjective to the onlookers, and, there’s just no need to guess what the artist’s thoughts were when s/he painted the piece, that destroys the purpose of art, as art is always open to interpretation, and if we have to search for what the artists are thinking of when they made the works, then, it takes the fun and imaginativeness out of the work.

  9. To me, it looks a bit like the iconic pyramid and eye found on the dollar bill. Interestingly, the eyes in this picture appear to be blinded, which might suggest the opposite of what the Illuminati symbol usually represents. Maybe it’s about truth being hidden rather than revealed? Intriguing work that really gets you thinking!

    1. Ahh, this is an interesting comment. Thank you, Joseph!
I hadn’t thought of the $$ pyramid, but now that you mention it, I see it.
Truth.. yes.. much is hidden or distorted in today’s world; probably in the history of the world.
      It sure gets me thinking.

  10. Oh wow Resa what a beautiful painting!
I am sure it has a meaning.
Perhaps behind her eyes is light.
She is protecting herself from the darkness of the world and all the wars, just a thought 🤗

    1. Your thoughts resonate, Maggie.
With all the darkness in the world, how wonderful to have a personal source of light.
      Love your thought, thank you!

    1. Thank you, Brad! I can go with that interpretation.

There is a lot of not good stuff going on in the world. I suppose we each have to find the good within ourselves, in our lives. Survival.

      1. That’s the truth. So many don’t want to see what’s happening right in front of them. I feel like the US is a rotten apple that’s been cut open and all the disgusting rot is crawling out and the ugliest bits are our government.

  11. Hmmm, now you make me wonder too if there’s a hidden meaning, especially since her eyes are covered by the yellow stripe, as if she’s being censored? The red color and her black hair make me think that the woman in the painting is Chinese; I’m not sure if that’s the case. In any case, it’s a striking mural!

P.S. I replied to your email, yes I love Sofia’s outfits!!

    1. OMG!

Yet another missed comment! I’m slipping.

Censored! That is a new take on the painting. No one has mentioned that thought. Excellent! Now you made me think about that yellow tape the police use to mark off crime scenes. DO NOT CROSS!

You could be right in your thinking. I’m not sure of her nationality but here is the about page on her website! https://www.lajolee.com/about

I’m dizzy from watching TV shows. Voting starts in 8 days, and I still have more to watch, in spite of watching at least 1 every night for a month.

Okay my dear Ruth, apologies for missing the comment! I am so glad you point these things out to me.

You mean a lot to me! XOXOXO

      1. Hello hello!! Oh wow, I didn’t realize no one has mentioned about the censorship thing. Maybe because I’m from Indonesia and I grew up during a dictatorship (Suharto ruled for over 3 decades, egads), and there was so much censorship, as he didn’t allow people to criticize him (sounds familiar?). And yeah, why is the tape that police use for marking crime scenes yellow? Is it because the color stands out? Hmmm…

Ahh so the artist is of Asian descent; she seems so brilliant! Great find here, Resa!

Oh my, voting in 8 days!! I feel for you girl… you must be so tired!! I wish I could invite you to a Secret Movie Night Event on August 13 (which I talked about here) I guarantee you will love the film and it’ll give you a break from all the shows.

Ok I’m gonna watch episode 5 of The Penguin. Btw, I LOVE her yellow dress at the end of episode 4, yowza!! 😍

You mean a lot to me as well, girl!! XOXOXO ❦ ♡ ♥

  12. Agree with you that it is very pretty. And intriguing and could mean a manner of things… as we know, things that make us go hmmmmm are way more interesting and worthy! Well done, Sorceress! xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

    1. Yes, I love Hmmmmmmming!
I’m happy when art makes me think, wonder or just plain gape.
      Hmmm???
      xoxoxo⚡️💥hmmmm⚡️💥xoxoxo

  15. Dear Resa
You can project a meaning on every artefact. For example, here you can see the message: ‘Holy is blinding.’ And you can even see that the concept of holiness is male, as the triangle with the point facing upwards says. You could see the five twigs as a symbol of harmony and for Venus. And so on … You see, there is a lot of symbolism in this picture. It doesn’t matter if the artist intended to be symbolistic, but the receiver can see it.
    Have a happy week

    1. It’s trie, Klausbernd, the beauty and meaning is in the eye of the beholder..
Thank you for the visit and cool comment.
My best to you and the other fab 3.

  16. I can’t help but think there’s an underlying message in this beautiful painting, Resa. The eyes say it all, and yet, their expression is masked. There could be many different meanings, so thank you for giving us something to ponder. 💞✨🌷

  17. I agree, Resa – this mural is a pleasant sight. Here’s my take on it:
A golden sun shines on her for her positive world. A golden grain that I’ll take as wheat, which is associated with abundance and the bounty of nature. Triangles (among other meanings) sometimes mean the stages of the moon or the elements (fire, earth, air, water). The red background, well, red can be love, anger, danger, or power.
All in all, it should mean something positive, right? Her expression is pleased, but a little surprised, as if she’s just seen something wonderful. BUT her eyes are missing… and that seems to change the entire vibe. For me, the mural is like a warning whether about the state of things in general or about climate change. She thinks everything is a happy golden world, but she can’t see what’s around her (whether she is brainwashed, or simply won’t let herself see the truth). The abundance but the stage of plenty may be short-lived, because it is surrounded by anger or power that has a dangerous disregard.
But sometimes a painting is just a painting. 😊 The art is even more beautiful when various viewers find utterly different meanings in it. Hugs from the Scoobies and me!

    1. HUGS backfrom Misha & me!

What a fabulous interpretation, Teagan. Thank you!
Everything you say makes sense. I did see all the symbology you have pointed out, but you have tied it all together nicely.

Well, this art is lovely just to look at, but still when I look at it, I wonder?

      1. When eyes are intentionally left out, I find it very disturbing generally.
I could add that someone mentioned the triangle representing masculinity — that’s also true, as well as connecting earth and heaven. But I didn’t get that sense from the painting. 🙂 ❤

        1. Yes, eyes being left out is disconcerting. Yet, here they are not left out, but rather covered.
          Similar, yes… but different.
          ❦🌹❦

    1. I agree!
It’s one of those paintings I wasn’t sure if I would post, until I saw the pics.

Farlanders’ Law is excellent! I’m about 2/3 through. I do read actual books at a faster pace, than on a screen. xo

  18. Another wonderful piece of art you have found here Resa… And indeed, it does bring us to question why no eyes are painted in.. Maybe we just need to FEEL instead of SEE. and once we all of begin to FEEL, especially the beauty which surrounds us all… Then maybe we will all find Meaning…

Great piece of art Resa, and great Question xx ❤
    Much love my friend xx

    1. Thank you, Sue!
It is quite an intriguing piece.
I like your take… to feel the beauty… to find the meaning.
Much love back to you, Sue!
      xoox🌹

  19. The image is well done but…I find it kind of disturbing. When we look at faces we always look at the eyes first, that old ‘windows to the soul’ thing perhaps. Having the image’s eyes deliberately taken out says something but I don’t know what. And that’s kind of disturbing as well.

    1. Meeka,
You are not the first one to mention that. Over the years, I have found a number of pieces with no eyes or just white eyes, like a statue.

AND – I found 2 with no eyes today. Maybe it’s in street art style this month?

Yes, disturbing, haunting, spooky to many.
It doesn’t bother me, though I wonder why the artist did that.

      1. I wonder if the ‘no eyes’ thing is some kind of offshoot of the cancel culture? To be honest, I’ve only got the foggiest idea of what ‘cancel culture’ is, but the lack of eyes definitely feels like a negation to me.
lol – you’ve got me thinking along a whole new path. Always a good thing.

        1. Me too!
I’m not 100% on cancel culture, either.
          It’s always something.
I’m still working on “boho culture” and “alternative lifestyle”, with “woke” taking up the rear.
          Must we always be catalogued?
Love that art gets us thinking.
Anyway.. art … I love it all, even when I don’t like it!
(Again, AI art does not count!)

          1. Oh gawd…there’s such a thing as ‘boho culture’??? -runs and hides- FAR too many pigeon holes. I’m happy to be ‘woke’ so long as it means ‘person with empathy’, the rest…bah humbug. I think I’m getting old! And yes re art and AI. 😀

            1. Agree! We are humans, not folders in a filing cabinet!
I’m already old. I remember when a humbug was a candy. 😂 Lol…Don’t know if you had those!

  20. Great piece of art – and I am glad you decided to share it. I also enjoyed skimming comments here.

And after seeing your different photos of this nice street art from Toronto, I feel like the lady is exhaling with pursed lips – and maybe the line acorss the eyes is a reminder to be present – exhale – take a pause from soaking up what we see – and just be present (and the purse lip exhale was my mom had to do when recovering from a fall – and so maybe that is why I saw the exhale there).

On a side note, sometimes there is subtle sensual or slight erotic messages with an open mouth – (and it is not my fav kind of art) – but I did not sense any of that here – there was a classy vibe to it – but still a little puzzling.

    1. Oh, thank you for this thoughtful comment!

The eyes are such a question mark, it’s like I barely saw the rest of her face. So, thank you for the comment about the lips.

I just love all the things people say about the art I post. It is stimulating.

      Classy -yes! Puzzling – yes!

The arts, all of them, keep me loving life. No, I don’t personally like everything I see, or even all of the images I post, but I love that an artist spoke through their medium.

      Again, thank you!

      1. your passion for art is inspiring and I am so glad to have connected more this summer (think I met you from the sorryless blog?) – either way – your appreciation and discussion about art is rich – and a great example of that was the different takes on the mural – reminding me that the angle and way we look at the art changes – from this side or from far or close up….

        1. Yes, I saw your comment on Sorryless’ blog. I popped over from there.
Art has become integral to my well being. With the world in its current upheaval, it is a place of joy… and riches.
Finding art, looking at art and making art settle the soul.
Thank you for this lovely comment!
          Thank you so much!

  21. There is so much intrigue in this image, Resa! Not all is as it seems, close your eyes and you can feel, life reveals more by our inner world, the eyes block reality, look behind the mask. Gosh, it’s a fabulous image. I can see how you loved it!
Barring witness to truth however it shows up is vital to keep us going right now.
    ❤️😊🌹

    1. LOVE
      Bearing witness to truth.
Yes, there is a lot of crazy going on today. Blindfold off or on, the truth is still the truth.
Thank you for your amazing poetic comment Cindy!
      xx❤️😊🌹
