Pegasus & Poseidon

That’s Bunso posing by Poseidon. I met him while he was painting over the tags on his god art.

I could have asked him what god it was, but I always turn into an idiot groupie when I meet a street artist. I was lucky to be calm enough to get this pic.

He’s an amazing artist. I’ll make him an artist category, as this is my 4th or 5th piece by him.

Anyway, I wasn’t sure about the god, until…

…I found Pegasus.

Fathered by Poseidon, he was born from Medusa’s neck when Perseus cut her head off.

Bellerophon, divine hero & the son of Poseidon and Eurynome, rode Pegasus in order to defeat the monster Chimera.

  1. Wonderful, Resa! Thank you for sharing. I especially like the details of Poseidon’s face. But it looks like the two murals are not together?

    1. Merril,

Yes, you’re right. Poseidon is a coupe of years old and lives in Graffiti Alley. Pegasus was painted last summer, and is on a garage door about an hour’s walk from me.

I have an appointment today, and it’s near Graffiti Alley. I’m excited to see what’s going on in there!

    1. Well put, Annette.

Being next to the art is intoxicating. This is why I take more that 1 shot. I try to bring a bit of my experience of being with the at, to the everyone I share it with.

      Thank you!

  2. Wow, what stunning murals! The expressions on Poseidon and Pegasus’s faces are stunning; so full of emotion and passion. And the colors are so vivid too. It must’ve been so cool to have seen these up close; thanks for sharing your great photographs for us all to enjoy. 😊🐎💜

    1. You’re welcome, Ada!

These are wonderful pieces of art, and they are quite mesmerizing to be near. I love finding art in the streets, or alleys in this case.

I’m thrilled you like the pics. Have a great day! ❦🌸❦🍒❦

    1. Yes, I agree Eunice. Bunso sure understands that 3d reality way of painting. It’s taken me a long time to begin to incorporate the beginnings of that into my art. xx

    1. Yes, Gods in the pinks.

Still giving birth from a decapitation is quite the happening.

    1. Thanks Dave! I’m going on another Poseidon adventure later, if it doesn’t rain.

Hmm, maybe all the better … more in theme if it does rain. 🤭

    1. Welcome Will!

The art is amazing, and does justice to the myths in a today way.

I must say the myths are quite imaginative. I love it all!

    1. I’m with you on the colour palette, Liz. Bunso sure understands the use of light and shadow to create that 3d realism effect.

I feel so lucky to live in a city where artists get to showcase their talent in the streets and alleys.

  3. Daniel Kemp's avatar Daniel Kemp

To be close to genius is staggering. I was fortunate to get close to the statue of David by Michelangelo, when it was ‘in transit’ in Rome and I remember the impression that left on me.

I have been lucky in life having seen many of the Renaissance painters, but great art is great art no matter who the artist is and your Bunso seems superbly talented.

    1. Yes, great art is intoxicating.
Not all talented artists can afford to have showings. I’m thrilled to live in a city that allows artists to showcase in the streets and alleys.
Some have gone on to be successful.
Thank you for your visit, and lovely comment!

  4. Both Poseidon and Pegasus are great! Cool hat you caught the artist cleaning up. I can see the tags in the photo with him but not the others.

    1. It was a lucky moment to find the artist, as you say, cleaning up.
I was by that spot today, and it is obliterated with tags. Still, the real artists will be out soon, and new art will appear.

        1. Yes! It keeps me excited, for some reason.
It’s been over a decade’s passion at this point. It shows no sign of slowing down.
However, I’m showing some signs of slowing. 🥴🤭

  5. Ah, you were so lucky to get the artist too! Is that ice under his feet? It looks like sea foam and being the god of the sea, it’s so fitting! …and then Pegasus!

Perfect! You’re right! He deserves a special category.

    Love and many hugs

    and slobberies, of course! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

    1. Yes, it is sea foam!
Or, if Hera was here it could be foaming slobberies!

  6. Hi Resa, what a lovely discovery on a Tuesday evening. I do love Poseidon. He is my favourite of the gods and I think as a Piscean who loves water, I am linked to him. Pegasus is gorgeous too.

    1. Bold is a perfect word, Jo!
It is very cool to meet an artist with his work, and/or to watch them paint.

I know very little about the gods, but I keep learning more.
      Thanks for the visit!

        1. Even Death Metal music is more peaceful than what’s going on.
Ozzy now sounds like a romantic crooner.
          MUAH!

    1. They are wonderful paintings. Like many street artists, he is a Tattoo Artist by trade.
      xoxoxoxo
(did you see the drawing I sent? It’s not finished)

    1. Hello Cheyenne,

Yes, he has an understanding of light and shadow that creates a 3d effect. It’s a realism, of sorts, but he’s not using that ability to recreate real life.

    1. O arre. The artist understands how to bring out the 3d effect with light and shading.
Yes! Ut’s always a treat to meet the artist.
      ne well!

  7. Bunso is an amazing artist. I can understand how you get all “fan girl” about his work. I didn’t know that the artists sometimes paint over the tags. They must get used to others marring their work and just accept it as the cost of creating street art.

    1. Lol, yes “Fan Girl” is perfect. What a great term. Beats Groupie.

Yeah, street art is ephemeral. I suppose that’s why I’m driven to collect it.

And the artists accept the inevitable, and just keep painting.

      Thanks Diana!

  8. Awww, how cool that you took a photo of the artist! How awesome that you met him while he was painting his art. Is Bunso part Filipino? He kind of looks like he could be (my hubby and I often get mistaken for being Filipinos!)

I love this mural; the colors are so vivid with such amazing details! Great photos, Resa, you too are an artist to be able to capture such beautiful street art!! 😍

    1. It’s always cool to meet an artist.
I don’t know Bunso’s heritage, but he has become a a popular artist around town.

      Thank you, Ruth.
I don’t know what I’d do without street art.
      xoxoxo

  9. It’s another magnificent painting, especially since we have the chance to meet the artist personally! 😉

Thank you for this divine artwork. 🤙🎯💖

    1. You are welcome, Aladin!

Both of the pieces are gorgeous. Bunso is so talented.

Sorry I missed this comment. I just can’t seem to keep up lately. It’s a busy time with many distractions coming from south of the border.

      xo🤗💝🌟❦

  10. I love the color in this Godly face. Certainly looks biblical, but on the Pegasus theme, maybe Poseidon or Zeus? 🙂 ❤ Hugs xox

  11. Wow, what talent indeed Resa…. The portrait of Poseidon jumps out in 3D like a sculpture…. God Given talent 🙂 .. xx

Have a wonderful rest of your week ❤

    1. The artist has a special eye and ability.
Glad you got to see this, Sue.
I will have a great rest of the week, and let’s both have a fab weekend!
