Artemis or Diana?

Original thoughts went to Artemis.

Then again, I have read a bit about Artemis, and almost nothing about Diana.

This piece is 3 years old.

I’m crazy about it.

The abstract background is killer.

Artemis or Diana – In the end I see an amazing Power Woman.

BONUS

Recently Dan Anton over at No Facilities posted a series on his visit to the Heinz Museum, in Pittsburg.

A Woman’s Place (the name being grist for the mill) is one of the exhibits. Fabulous and important women of Pittsburg featured in the exhibit are: Mary Schenley, Nellie Bly and Ava Duvernay.

Other notable women of Pittsburg include: Mary Cassatt, Martha Graham, Gertrude Stein, Mary Dee Dudley and Mary Cardwell Dawson.

Art Child?! (I’d put money on it)

There’s still 2 more Painted House posts coming up, after Halloween. Lots of pics to sort through.

      1. Possibly.

More likely some other artist’s paint world apparate on top of her.

Although, the fact she went 3 years without obliterating tags means she (her artist) has LOTS of street cred. 🌟

  1. I love the comment E-fem-feral! Such beautiful classical art. I have not read that much about Artemis but lots about Diana the Huntress. A woman of beauty and grit. This wall art is beautiful! I love the subject and the colored. You’ve brought us something beautiful to start the day. Thank you Meece!

    1.  E-fem-feral! Pretty cool!

A striking piece of art. I was floored when I found it. It’s still in great shape for 3 years on an outdoor wall. Obviously, she’s got a lot of street cred.

Seeing your comment sure was a nice start to my day. Thank you Meece!

                1. Okay..
You have an f’d back, Thunder has covid… the AGM’s are down! 🥵🥶😬
Hmm,I wonder how Gi, Shey and Marina are doing?
You know they just moved (Marina & Socrates).
The movers were lowering her piano that she’s had half her life, it fell and smashed on the ground. No more piano.
                  She was quite upset.
Gi has a pregnant wild cat.
Something must be going on with Shey!

        1. You’re welcome, Michael.
I don’t know why, but for years when I try to go to your blog, it says coming soon.,
LOL, if I use the Reader (a rare thing for me to do)and there is a post from you, I can like or comment from there. I don’t even know if you get those.

At any rate, thank you for your visits, and be well! xx

  2. Whether she is the Greek goddess Artemis or her Roman equivalent, Diana, this painting is one of the most powerful images of all time! It fascinates me endlessly, and I go crazy, too!!😉😅🤙🙏💖

    PS: The exhibition is amazing!👏✌

    1. Yes!

It is a powerful exciting painting. Thank you, Aladin!

I apologize for my tardy reply, and still have some posts to visit on your blog. I keep getting behind.

      Your comment is a joy!

      xo❦🌹🌟💙✨💓

    1. Thank you, Graham! I’m fond of the reflection, too. It’s one of my fave reflection shots.

    1. You’re right, Merril. Just don’t mess with her.
      Goddesses do transcend.
I’m waiting for Goddess Kamala to show up with her power! 🏹💥

  3. The thing about this collection is…to me, and I’m odd at the best of time…mad in all meanings of the word, ‘mad’. Notwithstanding her fantastic temper one has to say, ‘I rather like her’. Regards, TOF

    1. TOF,

LOL.. I rather like her too!

Mad.. that is one of the aspects of street art I adore. No rules. No expectations. Just paint!

I find I get behind in my responsibilities because I am driven to go walk outside and find art.

I have been working on the post for your book. It’s looking like November 3 for posting.

I will send you an email confirming, and asking any last minute question.

    1. Aww… thanks!
You see, now I’m inspired to just go find more art. There are other things to do in life. Sigh!!

      Okay, yes Wonder Woman!

I wonder why the ef I have to do dishes?
I wonder why – housework? Perhaps dirt has more of a right to be here than we do. After all, one keeps cleaning it up, but it just keeps on returning.
Now that I’ve given you plenty to think about, blown your mind, TTFN!

      1. You really are a marvel when it comes to art, finding it and making it and writing it. All of it!

Dishes should be self cleaning. I say!

        Housework. Same!

        MUAH!

  4. She is wonderful! I think others have said it, but Diana is pretty much just the Roman version of the Greek Artemis, though there are some differences (mostly the difference between ancient Greeks and Romans!).
My opinion? Looking at her sharp, otherworldly features and lack of animals around her (Artemis and Diana are almost always depicted with a deer or dog), she looks like something else. I was originally thinking an elfin woman from The Lord of the Rings (they use bows and there are women warriors), but there are negative connotations for that interpretation, mostly because of all of the movies and TV shows (plus JRR Tolkien was slightly sexists in his books). She looks almost more like the spirit of the forest, and she is not one to be trifled with. There is a steel in her glare more pointed and hard than the arrowhead, yet a real passion in what she is doing.
    Anyway, great find!

    1. So, I take it the Greeks and Romans were competitive societies?

Okay, I can see an elfin look in her face. Good spotting.

Lord of the Rings. I read that long ago, and don’t remember a lot: Bilbo, Hobbits, Frodo, Gandalf, a misty image of their world..I did read The Hobbit as well.

Epic books, and I have a pretty great memory, but I seem to have sidelined that story in memory.

“JRR Tolkien was slightly sexist in his books” – perhaps a cause of my memory blockage.

A steel glare… I like that. Yes, she is determined to nail her prey/enemy.

Agree, it’s a wonderful wall painting. I found it the same day I found the unfinished mural I was telling you about recently. A bit of a story there, but I’ll save it for the post.

If they would just remove the scaffolding!!!

      1. Super simple version, the Greeks influenced everyone, but when Rome conquered them, they pretty much stole as much of their culture as they could.
I might have misstated it a little – Tolkien wasn’t super sexist, and he did have a few very strong female characters, but pretty much 100% of the Hobbit and the majority of the Lord of the Rings was centered around males. I don’t know if there are any female in the Hobbit at all! The Lord of the Rings is better. For instance, there is a female warrior. And then there was Galadriel (played by Kate Blanchett in the movies), an elf who is one of the most powerful people on Middle Earth, one of the Three good forces. But there are few others, though the movies added a little. It’s a bunch of guys doing guy things.
Looking forward to that unfinished mural 🙂

        1. Thanks Trent!

You know, I never did see the movie. Although, your retelling of it a bit here is bringing back memories of the story. It’s so cool that you are so sensitive and explain things properly.

Ohhh, that mural! I wanted do a quick pop up there on Sunday. However, I went and took some fruits I froze, when they were in season, out of the freezer. So now Sunday is for pie baking.

  5. Another cool artwork that you’re celebrating! To me, the colors have a cyberpunk vibe to them. Also, the fluidity and grace are wonderful. Definitely, she’s a Power Woman.

    1. It is a cool work, thank you Dave!

Cyber punk… I think I get that. Definitely an avant garde rendition of writing/burners, it does feel now, in your face (punk) and electrifying.

I was elated when I found this. Like many pieces I find, I want to stay, not go home but ……

    1. Yes, love the Power! And the colours do shine, vibrant. It was difficult to leave this piece, and go home.
I’ll be seeing it in real life again, though.

There’s an unfinished mural a few doors over that I MUST have (If it ever gets finished!)

    1. Agree, it’s a wonderful piece.
Yay! Thanks about the reflection shot, John. It’s a good one, one of my fave.
      🐷𝖃 🎨 🏹 🐖

  6. Absolutely stunning! The way the energy/aura crackles off the wall it’s amazing. Also that you found a gap between parked vehicles was lucky. Thanks for sharing once again.

      1. Completely understandable. Daisy is so loving, rubbing against my legs, etc., and she used the outdoor litter box twice but it rained and I’m out of litter. If she uses the litter box she can come in. I cannot have her going to the bathroom all over the house. I just can’t live with that.

  7. Looks like the artist mixed some neon (or metallic dust) into his paint … doesn’t it? The trees in the background look like barbed wire. Most interesting.

    1. Agree, it is a piquing piece.
Not sure what the artist used, except street artists normally use spray can paint.
Spray paint is available in metallics, so you are probably right in what you are seeing.

Thanks for your insightful comment Jan!

  8. Oh, how wonderful! I’m sure if I was walking down the street and saw that, I’d make a little shriek of joy! Artemis is the Greek name for the Roman goddess Diana, so one and the same. Goddesses of the moon as well as the hunt and she sure does have a lunar look about her. Wonderful find, Resa.

  9. I’m not sure I can choose, but she’s beautiful and formidable. I love the images and thanks for attaching a reblog of my post to this fascinating post.

    1. It’s a wonderful work of wall art. I’m glad you saw it, Dan!
It was my pleasure to reblog Heinz Woman’s Place!
      Take care and have fun!

  10. Been such a long time, dahlin!

Artemis [since it’s also my middle name! ;-)] I think they were the same, just one in Greek and the other Roman.

Great find, my sweet friend. Missed ya! xoxoxoxoxo

    1. Dahling Marina,

You have been busy! How is sweet Hera through all this?

I thought of you while making this post, as I remembered your middle name is Artemis.

I hope you’ll have more time in the future. I’ve missed you, too!

      xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo🧽🧽🧽🧽🧽🧽

      1. Much much better now and settling in. I hope to be more present from now on!
Hera has already made it her own [literally] and happy to explore the garden.
Looooooooooove and love and many hugs dahlin!

  11. I love the reflection in the car…. Excellent…. And how they got this art to look so magical is breath taking… … Its fabulous .. I am Diana fan.. 😉 .. I forget now which castle I visited or stately home in Scotland, that had a bronze statue of Diana and drawing her bow.

Thank you for sharing xx ❤

    1. Cars should always be clean when parking by wall art. I can’t tell you how many great reflection shots were foiled by car dirt. 😂

It really is a lovely work of art. I’m glad you got to see it, and thank you for your lovely comment!
      💓🌹
