Spirits Moving

Found this in the entrance to the parking of a high rise.

It’s a mural, and a paste-up. It’s the biggest paste-up I’ve ever seen.

  1. What a wonderful mural, Resa! I felt the power, strength, resistance, freedom and love emanating from each dancer. Beauty.
Excellent and perfect music to accompany this lovely piece.

    1. I agree, Dale! I actually found this over a year ago, but there was always some nasty sun making shadows over it. I got lucky yesterday.
I have a massive crush on Lolly, the lead singer. When he’s playing guitar & singing….. wow! ⚡️💥

        1. Lol! The guitarist in black is Lolly’s brother, Pat. All the members of the band are of Mexican American and Native American heritage. I sure shows in their music! ⚡️💥

That is a great mural. I hadn’t heard “Come Get Your Love” in like forever. Our Pueblo indians have there own type of dances. When I was a teenager in 1974, we would watch The Midnight Special on Friday nights and then stay up and and watch old Godzilla, Dracula and other classic movies in B&W between chess moves into the wee hours of the morning. Fun teenage times.

    1. I agree, Tim. It’s a wonderful mural.
All the members of Redbone are of Mexican American and Native American heritage. I feel it in their music.
Yes, this song takes me back, too.
Hey, I still get in the mood once in a while to watch Godzilla, Dracula and other classic movies in B&W into the wee hours of the morning. I never played chess, though. xo

  3. Hi Resa and I hope you got a lot of Valentine’s Day cards and flowers. This mural gave me a central American or Aztec vibe but with the modernised twist with the geometric patterns (kinda bridging the ages of ancient Aztec and today). I wish my high rise had artwork like this but alas we just have magnolia coloured emulsion paint on the walls. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thank you, Tyeth! I did get 1 dozen white roses.
I agree with your vibe on the art. There have been many comments on that, and all are kind of on the same line. I’ve only bumped into2 high rises that have art in the entrance to parking. I still have to post one, but the artist was still painting when I shot what was done.
I need to get back there.
      Cheers!

    1. Janet, I know this sounds crazy, but people walk, drive, skate, bicycle by murals all the time and don’t see them.
I’ve had people stop to look at me taking pics, then look to see what I’m taking pics of.
The looks of surprise on their faces is quite interesting. I’ve had people say to me that they walk by every day, and never saw the art before.
      Happy Valentine’s!

  4. Happy Valentine’s, dahling! What a strong mural. It reminds me depictions on ancient Athenian vases [https://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/vase/hd_vase.htm], black and red figure technique on terracotta. Loved the video too!
Love & hugs your way ❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹

    1. Wow! I checked the link. Definitely reminiscent.
      The vases are gorgeous.
Big crush on Lolly, the lead singer.
Back then all of the band members were of Mexican American and Native American heritage. It seemed fitting for the post.
Love and hugs to you! ❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹
      And Hera! ❤️🌹🧽❤️🌹🧽❤️🌹🧽❤️🌹🧽❤️🌹🧽❤️🌹🧽

    1. Glad you like the mural. I think it’s pretty cool.
The soundtrack of your youth…love that. I learned about this song about 10 years ago.
Not sure why I never heard it sooner.

            1. PS – I have a chat scheduled with “Toronto Life” magazine tomorrow. It’s about the Art Gowns. It would be amazing to get featured in it. I’m trying to get some stars, people interested in wearing them to The Toronto International Film Festival or Award shows.
I hope this link to an online issue works. I mailed one to myself, and it works in email. https://digital.emagazines.com/toronto_life/20220816/index.html?t=974a9a21-735c-4b85-bbdf-a577ad636d4e&utm_campaign=testlink_toronto_life&utm_source=EG&utm_medium=EG#p1

              1. Thats awesome! I think it would be so amazing to have that work out. Those gowns are beyond gorgeous, they ( stars) would love them. Fingers crossed and positive vibes heading your way. Let me know how the meeting goes! ❤️

  5. A very interesting perspective and message, Resa. I believe that murals are a powerful visual tool for conveying a message. They can be used to express a wide range of ideas, from political statements to artistic expressions, bringing attention to social issues, to celebrate a culture or history, or to simply bring beauty to a public space. The most important aspect of mural art, in my opinion, is the ability of the mural artist to forge connections within a diverse community. Thank you for featuring this mural. I have explored Rajini Perera’s website. Very creative work.

    1. Murals, as most street art, speaks.
Agree, sometimes they can bring social or political statements, sometimes something wonderful/beautiful to look at and grace our world.
I feel fortunate to live in a city that embraces public art at many levels.
      Love your Gravatar!

  6. Beautiful Art Resa.. And how wonderful that the city is giving space and credit for such artwork to be show cased in public spaces… We need to brighten up our world with ART.. ❤ and Creativity.. ❤

    1. I’m quite thankful that I live in a city that embraces outdoor art, of all kinds!
I believe arts make the world a better place!
Sending light and love to you, Sue! ❤
