I received a postcard years ago that was very similar to this mural and it was entitled “His Vacation” but the fella looked a little happier, This doesn’t carry the same sense of fun and by the look on his face he’s got some explaining to do! I think the woman in the middle has just twigged that there is more going on than she imagined. The guy sat down in the corner is feeling smug and telling his friends that he knew it would all end in tears. The guy in the blue swim suit is thinking he should have worn something more cool and wishing his red blanket was a cloak of invisibility. It is also true that we can’t always get what we wish for and his cloak won’t make him invisible. He is totally doomed and he is wishing he had respected the moral code of the day. It’s called “The Old Swimming Hole” because he just dug one so big he was never gonna get out of it before he drowned. It was provisionally titled “I’m Doomed get me out of here”.     1. It’s amazing how much you got from this pic. It all sounds very intriguing. I’ll have to see if I can find that postcard art. Well, I’m happy to have shared, and there’s more to this mural in the future. Maybe the rest of the mural will be as evoking?
