The Two Heras

At first it seemed like another pretty face in the midst of graffiti mayhem.

Then there’s this eyepatch with a crab.

Turns out Cancer, the crab, was sent by goddess Hera to distract Hercules while he battled Hydra.

Suddenly the Hera pendant makes total sense. Goddess Hera is alive and well in Graffiti Alley.

Hera is also the goddess, who lives with my pal, Marina – Art Towards a Happy Day

Here, Hera is alive and well and living as a beautiful dog.

Taking the drawing of Hera that Marina did, I combined it with the image below,

…. to create the header for this post: The Two Heras

The Hera alley artist: Not sure at this time

For Hera and Marina(& Socrates) on their Anniversary

June 18th is Hera’s Gotcha Day. I’m not sure how many years ago it was, but I do know Hera has had about a million years of love since.

Mahsa Amini

Lest we forget, Mahsa -22 years old –

…..was arrested in Iran for not wearing her hijab according to law.

She died in rehabilitation/detention, setting off protests unlike the country had seen before.

This post is dedicated to Aladin – Lamp Magician, who left Iran many years ago.

From time to time, he posts about Mahsa, and the plight of Iranian women.

I never know what I’ll find in an alley.

The Arists:

Art for Liz

I was chatting in comments with Liz Gauffreau recently.

It got to a point where someone else might have said: I need a drink now, I’m going for a smoke, time for a coffee & some chocolate or think I’ll go for a walk.

.. but Liz, what does she say?

“I think I need some art now.”

How cool is that? Well I have art and told Liz, I have some art for you!

Then, while picking out some art, it was like ..well what does Liz like?

After sweating it out in photo files for a week, the choices were narrowed down to two.

There is this piece, which is avant garde, open to interpretations and I’m sure not everyone’s cuppa tea.

OR a HOT PINK GOD!

HOT PINK GOD is magnificent, classic, sculpture like although flat and accessible in meaning.

Of course there are other art forms, such as music.

I could sing a song for Liz, but I’m sure that would just drive her to needing more art.

It was hard for me to leave this location. I wanted to stay.

After much reflecting on the choice, it was evident that art love is subjective. Therefore it’s difficult to select for anyone other than self.

Dems & Doll – Everything Art

I’m such a Street Artist groupie! I was thrilled to meet Dems & Doll, while they were painting.

Honestly, we chatted for awhile, exchanged names, I watched them paint for a bit  and now can’t remember their real names.

Anyway, Dems painted this fab face. I went back a couple days later to shoot the finished works.

Here’s Doll painting!

She gave me a wonderful reflective not sticker, with one of her faces. It’s taped on my purse now.

I took some pics of the art piece Doll gave me. It’s actually more monochrome, but I took it at night w/street lights/ overhead light &/or flash. I love it!

A Rough Patch

Funny how art can hit one.

When I saw these 2 faces, I felt something I know but couldn’t put into words.

It’s got something to with that they are attractive faces,

but the wall is rough.

We all go through rough patches, now and again.

Perhaps that’s whyI love Graffiti Alley art so much.

It’s one big rough patch, but there’s good stuff in it.
