Henry Moore Sculpture

Rebecca at Chasing Art and I have had a few conversations about Henry Moore’s sculptures.

I’ve been wanting to shoot this sculpture for Rebecca (and all) for a while now. It’s in a park  by the AGO. Every time I go by the AGO & the park, I think of her.

I began at one side, and shot my way around the sculpture.

This sculpture was in front of the AGO since 1974. It was moved to the park in 2017.

It was replaced with: Elephant on a Ball

The Henry Moore Sculpture Centre
“The Art Gallery of Ontario is known internationally for its extraordinary and extensive collection of Henry Moore works. The Henry Moore Sculpture Centre at the AGO originally opened in 1974, to house Moore’s original gift to the AGO, now totalling more than 900 sculptures and works on paper.”

  1. I didn’t know what AGO was at first, so I’m glad you explained it further down. 🙂
I love the fluid lines of the sculptures. Thanks for sharing, Resa!

    1. Welcome, Merril!
Lol! I must think I’m writing a mystery. Confuse everyone with an acronym, then reveal it near the end.
I’m not up on sculptures, but I sure like this one.

  2. A beautiful work of art Resa. I am wondering what material was used to make this sculpture., a metal of some kind. It’s so smooth and as was already mentioned fluid, a perfect description here. Thank you! It’s lovely. xoxoxo

    1. It’s made of bronze!
I don’t know much about sculpture, but I’ve always been enchanted by this one.
I’m not swung out by the one they replaced it with out front of the Art Gallery , but it does seem to have a dignified home in the park.
      xoxoxo

  3. It was interesting to watch you photograph it in a circle, Resa. In the beginning, I found myself trying to interpret the form in each photo and then gradually just let it be what it was. It’s interesting how organic and sensual the shapes become. Great share!

    1. Thank you, Diana
It’s easy to be inspired to interpret, by this piece. I know I do it.
Still, it’s a soothing piece, without words.
I’ve enjoyed it for many years, as it is out in public.
Public art is important. It feeds the masses.

  4. Wow! How fortunate, dahling! He’s one of my favorite sculptors!
Beautifully photographed! It’s amazing getting all those different angles.
Thank you for sharing it, dahling Resa! ❤️👌❤️

    1. Thank you dahling Marina!

I don’t know a lot about sculpture, but I know this work of art soothes me.
It only makes sense to view this masterpiece from 360 degrees.
      Each angle reveals another gem.
I’m so happy you got to see it! X❤️👌❤️O

    1. All that bronze is intoxicating.
Eternal is a great word for this work, Jan.
I’m grateful it’s out in public for all to enjoy.

    1. I adore this work of art.
      “Round about the sculpture go!”
That’s my own quote. I stole the essence from the bard. 😏
      Hugs

  5. I love love love this work and it’s been a place for many years I always detour to go by if I can. Great post, thank you for the caring way it’s been presented. (And I love the word eternal, used in one of these replies.

    1. I love this sculpture, too!
One thing about it being in the park is that it is better observed from all angles than it was outside the AGO.
Anyway, it’s in the park behind & just south of the of gallery.
You can still route by when in the city!

    1. Thanks Debby! Yeah, it’s a Toronto thing, largest HM collection in the world.
We really are a world class culture, in our own right.
It’s one largely born in modernity, and that counts!
The fact that we have volumes of art, of all ilks in the streets, speaks volumes. ❤ xoxo
