John Lennon

Several years ago I thought I saw John Lennon’s face painted in a doorway, as the streetcar I rode trundled by at full throttle.

Making a mental note of the area, I vowed to return and find it. Since, I have been in the area quite a few times, but could never find it.

One day last week was the last time I would search for it, having come to believe I dreamt it. Suddenly it was there, obvious for all to see and almost exactly where I thought it would be. Why hadn’t I seen it all those other times?

Thrilled to the point of growing an extra toe, I blathered the whole experience in the first comment I made when back on WP. The victim was Trent from Trent’s World, and I asked him to pick a song.

Trent’s reply the next day:

“Hmm, my first thought was Instant Karma, but I just went back and listened to a few and I think it has to be Mind Games”.

“Even when it was released, it was deemed nostalgic, a feeling that comes across even stronger now. And it has all of the classic Lennon philosophies about peace, love and being positive – “YES is the answer” with that it’s up to the individual to change the world philosophy. “

“Part of the nostalgia is that it has an almost Beatles feel to it while being 100% a Lennon solo work – almost like those two songs from The Beatles Anthology in the 1990s that were Lennon demos finished by the other three, only this is 100 times better. “

“It is also odd (to me) that it is a super simple song musically – the music is just the road John’s ideas ride on to get to their destination. Anyway, “Mind Games” is my pick “

Thinking about it today, the song is amazingly perfect. After all, the painting had been playing mind games with me for years. I actually came to believe I’d dreamt it. Maybe John is laughing?

Art Remembers Us

Hosted by Dan Anton, the Fourth Annual Thursday Doors Writing Challenge began on May 1st. and runs the entire month of May. 

You pick one of the submitted door photos, and write to it. I chose the image above, by Teagan R. Geneviene.

I’m not a writer, but Dan said he was open to whatever creative inspiration I came up with . I decided on a triple crown event.

One, make a Barbie Art Gown to go with Teagan’s image. Art Gowns are always made from textile trash, old clothes, curtains, NOS and anything headed for landfill. They are completely sewn by hand.

Two, photography – a fashion shoot of said Art Gown.

Three, writing. “Art Remembers Us”.

I came up with this phrase during an interview on a Tea, Toast and Trivia podcast. The host, Rebecca Budd asked me – Why is art important? I answered – Because “art remembers us”. As far as I know, it’s original.

Sick Cat

My 16 year old Jeep had a stroke last night.

24 hour at home observation. She’s resting comfortably. Phone consultation with Vet late afternoon. She will come back tonight if necessary. Otherwise…tomorrow.

Broken hearted. Will come back to answer squirrel comments as soon as possible.

Night Owl

Owls are largely nocturnal hunters.

They might hunt from a tree like my tree (aka Resa’s Tree), which lives on Tim’s Magic Tree Sanctuary

However, I found this owl in the daytime.

You’ll notice no owls in my daytime tree!

This owl is actually sitting on rocks by porch steps.

As day closes…

My tree awaits.

Year of the Wood Dragon

It’s said that Wood Dragon years bring evolution, improvement, and abundance. So, I went to Chinatown to find a Wood Dragon, and found a Qilin Dragon.

Head of a Dragon, Body of a Lion and Hooves of a Goat or Horse, it’s said to appear with the imminent arrival or passing of a sage or illustrious ruler.

Qilin is said to be a symbol of good fortune, prosperity, and wisdom, and it is believed to have the ability to walk on grass without disturbing it, as well as to breathe fire.

Chinatown is a busy, colourful place so one could miss this striking statue (it’s on a side street) when passing by.

There’s boatloads of info on all of the Chinese Lunar Dragons and the Qilin (Qi = Man & Lin = Woman) online.

5 years ago, I found a Chinese Lunar Calendar mural. Above is the dragon, who represents all of the Dragons: Earth, Metal, Water, Wood & Fire.

The wall the mural is above is 5 feet high, so I had to aim up with the camera. It is also a long mural stretching across 80 – 100 ft. of parking lot.

It’s displayed with 6 of the animals on each side separated by 3 charts.
