Poetess Nouveau

When I laid eyes on this exquisite mural, I immediately thought of poetess Holly – House of Heart.

If you don’t know her bewitching metaphoric prowess, you are missing out!

Found in Kensington Market, this remake of Kensington Flower Girl , (posted in 2015) has achieved a much enhanced romantic quality.

The bigger it gets, the better it gets!

Amazing what can be painted on the side of an old house.

A perfect song for this Holly dedicated post is Suzanne by Leonard Cohen, but I have already posted it for her several times.

So, I went behind a door that’s not a door, but a metaphor. This song was there.

No one can stand on a piano and sing like Steve Tyler.

  1. Gorgeous! And you are right about the larger it gets, the larger it gets! I love the sunflower-ish door. Brilliant shots and an introduction to a new writer! Thank you.

  2. Wow! I love this full side of the house painting–the woman, the little sunflower door, and there’s a creature to the side of it. An owl? And a lovely shoutout to Holly-Rene and her poetry.

    1. It sure is a great mural. It’s more pretty than meaningful, except for that door, the door metaphor.
Huh? Going to look for that owl!
Love Holly’s poetry, a lot! I just finished drawing Joni Mitchell for her.
(About 20 pages left to read. What a thought provoking, ire up read.)

  3. Yes, very nice mural and as you say very befitting for Holly’s works, there is an appeasal feeling to this mural, which we are on a dire need these days, weeks, months…:D

    1. Thanks Jean Marc!
Yes, we need the comfort of beautiful visuals right now. Art is a helping hand.
..months…a year …. 2 years, then “Mene Mene Tekel Upharson”.
At least it seems we, in Canada, have the opportunity to elect someone who Can steer us through the farce. xx

    1. I agree,Robbie, it is a peaceful mural. I feel it’s more pretty to look, a nostalgic pleasure to the eyes, than any kind of statement.
Much of that is need right now.
Of course the door with no way to open it adds an intrigue.

        1. Speaking of murals, I found a jungle themed one for you!
It’s got a Monkey, a Tiger and a leopard on it.
When I post it, I’ll dedicate it to you, and promote your animal books!
It’s quite lovely, a gorgeous find!

  4. Wow, what an incredible mural! I love the way you take the photographs, too; how you get more of an overall impression bit by bit. It’s so tranquil and inspiring. And that door, with the steps leading up to it, is so striking. Just wonderful! 😊💜🌸

    1. Thanks Ada!
I do try to create a presentation that takes the viewer to my experience in real life.
One snap shot doesn’t do it for a work of art like this.
      It is very striking.
So happy you got to see this. ❦🌹❦🌹

    1. Trent,
      Yes, beautiful is the word.
It’s a simple pleasure to stand by it and look at it.
It’s incredible how many people walk by this massive painting, and don’t even see it. Talk about not smelling the roses!

I still would like to go through the non-door!

      1. People do seem to ignore beauty, don’t they? You’d think something this large and beautiful would be hard to ignore, but….
        Yeah, that non-door is intriguing!

          1. I hate phones. Well, 95% of the time, and I love them that 5% that I need one… lol. I never take a walk with my phone. I miss photos, but there are zero distractions from the world around me.

            1. I get it!
I take my phone but I turn off internet, I have disabled email always (there’s enough email time at my laptop) and put it on airplane mode.

I need to take it for the camera.
However, if I’m doing a short walk, not an art walk, I leave it at home.

                  1. I was thinking the same thing when you said you carry your phone in airplane mode – maybe I should just to have my camera, but otherwise, yeah, very similar.
What is the reason we are here? Not me and you on WP, but humans in existence at all? It ain’t “to be exploited by the rich”, and the answer better have to “bask in the beauty (man-made or natural) of the world”, aka, “stop and smell the freakin’ roses, people…” someplace in there.

                    1. Yes.. That question is the question of and from all time. Why? WTF?
I agree with you about the roses!
Just got back from picking up the mail. That was an interesting 4.5 hours.
I’m afraid to open my email. Will the mailbox be in, or still on the truck, which is 1 hour from here.

                    2. It’s not!!!!”
I actually called yesterday about “WHY?” “When will I get it?”
I had to wait 72 hours for a response. It’s already been 24…so 48 more.
I might need to rethink this.

    1. Yay!
      Thank you dear John!
      It’s a glorious mural!
      I was having a – meh – day until I found this.
Then it was like “What a fabulous day!!!!!”
      🎨𝒳

    1. It truly is over brimming with all you say!
We can all use some overflowing beauty right now!
Have a great week, Martha! xx

    1. LOL!
      Doinking around the mural, eh?
That non-door door is the door to the answers about the mysteries of life.
Now, to figure out how to open it!

  5. Holly, without a doubt! This painting is a monumental work of art. It is incredibly vast and contains numerous intricate details. It is absolutely fascinating; thank you!

    👍💕🙏🪴🌹

    1. You are welcome, Aladin! It is my utmost pleasure to share these street arts.
I guess you could say Street Art is my Egyptology.
      Hugs to you, Aladin!
      🤗🧡😽💜🌺

    1. It is a sublime art movement. It really exposes a genteel beauty!
It is a great mural find, and outdoor art season has just begun!
(I’m glad you are staying informed. Elbows up!)

    1. Lol!
Perhaps she is. I just thought; casting a spell = writing a poem – when it’s about Holly.
Thanks for the visit and your lovely comment, Brad! 🤗

    1. Thank you dear Cindy!

It’s crazy how many fabulous poets I have discovered here on WP, including you.

I’m dreaming of love, life, joy and freedom, too. I wish that for all!

      HUGS!!!! LOVE!!!

  7. Wow! At first I thought it was a picture taken of the back of a playing card – it has that kind of look – and as a former magician I wished I had a deck of cards as nicely decorated. But then when I saw your expanded images my amazement just grew. Your pics never fail to impress, thanks.

    1. It really is a beautiful and impressive mural.
Thanks about y pics. It’s not just showing the art, it’s creating an art experience.
      Thank you, Tyeth!

    1. Thanks Gi!
I keep hoping I’ll find a brilliant cat mural for you. I have found them before. There’s bound to be another.
The leopard I found is part of a jungle sort of scene. So… yes, but not quite.
I want to find a cat or cats, just cats.
      Or a fabulous pigeon mural..
      There’s not enough pigeons.
Anyway, happy you like this! xoxoxo

    1. I agree Shey! This is a magnificent mural.
Lol.. it seemed like poetry, with a Holly in the middle.
This definitely had a Holly dedication all over it.
      You’re amazing! xxx

        1. Aww, bless their little dude hearts.
Let’s defer the “The amazing one” choice, forever. I gotta say, we are all terrific gals!
          xxxxx

  8. Whoa!! This is on the side of an old house? I almost didn’t notice the house as I was transfixed by this painting. I thought the rectangular box with the sunburst design was a door!

    Amazing find, Resa!

    1. Yup, an old house!
I was transfixed in real life, and I do try to impart the feeling in presentation.
I know, that non-door door is quite cool. I just know if I could open it, it would be a better world over the threshold.
      Thanks Ruth!xxx

      1. I am always in awe of how these artists can even visualise on such a grand scale much less do it so beautifully. This mural speaks to me too. 🙂

    1. Agree! It is gorgeous.
It’s so great to go for a long walk, and suddenly – ART!
I like the way a piece of wall art will make me think of someone. It’s a beautiful thing.
      Dream On!
      Hugs back! xxx🌟❦❦🌹

  9. What an amazing discovery and yes! The more we see, the more we love. Fantabulous share, Sorceress!

    xoxoxo 🧚‍♀️🪄 xoxoxo

    1. Thank you, dear Thunder!
      It’s a gorgeous mural.
Other than the door that’s not a door, (what does it mean?) it’s pretty straightforward beauty.
      xoxoxo⚡️💥xoxoxo

      1. It truly is. And the door-not-door adds something. Strange.
        Yes, straightforward. I like that.

        xoxoxoxo 🧚🏼‍♀️🪄xoxoxoxo

    1. It’s a beauty, for sure. What a glorious moment when I found it.
I adore Holly’s poetry. Sensory is a good description. I can never seem to put it in 1 word.
Then again, as a consummate yakker, I can’t seem to put anything into 1 word.
      🤣😹

        1. Who knows?
I just finished a portrait of Joni Mitchell for her.
She’s a bit under the weather, so I’m hoping it will help cheer, and speed things along!

  10. Oh Resa, a beautiful tribute to Holly, our poetess. The mural beautifully captures her free and gentle spirit. The woman surrounded by flowers speaks volumes about the love and admiration you have for her. The peaceful expression and closed eyes evoke a deep sense of meditation and tranquility, reminding us of Holly’s profound poetic voice.

    1. Thank you Rebeca!
I do admire Holly, and my affection has grown over the years.
Yes, her poetry has a distinct, romantic and questioning voice, accentuated by her magic with metaphors.
Thank you for this lovely comment!

    1. Thank you, Teagan!
Now that you mention it, it is like a tapestry, and a very beautiful one a that.
Outdoor art season has just barely begun.

I can smell the excitement of the hunt.
      Hugs!!

  11. So true about the amazing Holly! Her poetry speaks to me always; she is astonishingly gifted, and I find her work to have a distinctive delicateness. One is drawn into the words and is lost in whatever scene she decides to paint with her magical words.

This mural is delicate in some of the same ways. The woman’s features, the distinctive qualities of the flowers surrounding her, and I love the door. The steps leading up to it just beg for one to step inside.

Thank you so much for this treat. I loved the performance, what an adventure, big hugs and thanks to the artists. 🌹 Resa, lovely all around!

      1. i’m here to speak my art mind! 😀 yes, Holly‘s work is exquisite and I have definitely seen some of your accompanying art and all of it is splendid glamour. I’m also a huge fan of the Chicklets. I have been out of town staying in a hotel that used to be a cotton mill in the 1800s, which we love. We’re about to take off but I’m looking forward to seeing your link! Sending lots of love and hugs! 🤗

  12. Wow, I love the Kensington Flower girl! How amazing to have that on a house! And a beautiful nod to Holly. Hugs to you both ❤ xox ❤

  13. Resa

This mural IS mesmerizing. It’s a beautiful wander, with rivers of colorful mayhem leading from one place to the next to the scintillating next. And you supply these works of art on the regular. Amazing.

As for your ode to the bewitching talents of Ms. Holly, YES. She is such a gifted soul and your mention is lovely.

All of this is music to my eyes. Yes, I said that.

    1. Marc, you are a romantic and a renaissance man!
I saw Holly the moment I laid eyes on this art.
I am so happy to live in a city where there is enough art in the street to keep it coming.
