Beauty of Imperfection

Not sure how old this mural is. The colours are still quite bright, but it is chipped and peeling like crazy. It’s fab.

“Woman can have mustache”That’s what it appears to say over the top lip.

“Love is Us” over one of the eyes.

“blow it” is between the eyes and over the nose.

It took a bit of time and scrutiny to figure out “Beauty of Imperfection”

Of course there was some wood trash in the way when I found it.

So I moved it, then replaced it when finished. The text over the trash was a tad challenging to figure.

“Sometimes you have to Be a Lion So you Can Be The Lamb you are “

Not sure if it’s “Love” over the other eye?

  1. I love you Resa for bring this one to us all. I mean it. There have been many “images” more beautiful, more fair-of-face, but none that more touch my heart than this one here. The word graffiti is too downtrodden a word for what this message is. There is something even more profound that it is showing its age, like some discovery of a long lost civilization now found again, and maybe we wake-up just a little bit more.

    Thank you.

    1. Thank you for this lovely comment, Neil!

Yes, I too adore the aged quality. That, combined with the art and sayings gives it an air of sincerity.

Well, I may never find a lost civilization, but I did find this. I actually call my walks to look for street art, “Art Hunts”, so you are onto something.

      Welcome!

  2. What a find. The eyes especially are so touching. They reach out to you. The lettering? Well, where do I start? It is just beautiful. Love yah fot taking the time to bring us this one. (Okay love yah anyway but you know what I mean )

    1. Now that you mention it, yes, the eyes speak.

Shey, it’s a joy of my life to share the street art. I’m thrilled that you and others enjoy it.

I know what you mean, and I love ya, too!! xxxx

    1. Agree, and the phrase is beautiful in itself.

Based on this theory, I am stunningly beautiful. Please wear sunglasses when approaching me! 😂

  3. This artist definitely had a message they wanted to get across–beautifully expressed with words and color. I agree with shehannemoore, the eyes are wonderful and full of feeling. Thank you for taking the time to reveal this one, Resa!

    1. Yes, the eyes are fab.

I didn’t see that until I got home and looked at the pics on my laptop.

The phone is way small, and the art can be overwhelming, hard to back up and get a clear all in all look.

You are welcome Merril. I sure love street art, and enjoy to sharing it.

I never know what will strike who in what way. Hmm, that must be like your poetry. ❦❦

    1. I’m quite smitten by this work.

Now worries. The sponges are out.

Ahh, nothing like the imperfect beauty of kisses and slobbers!

  4. This is the beauty of incompletion. Therefore, imperfection shows us life as we stand. You might bet whose quote I write here, though you are wise enough to know better.
“For, just as completeness is always imperfect, so perfection is always incomplete and therefore represents a final state that is hopelessly sterile. “Ex perfecto nihil fit,” say the old Masters, whereas the imperfectum carries the seeds of its own improvement within it. Perfectionism always ends in a blind alley…”

    Have a lovely holiday.🤗💖🥂💥

    1. I like your comment, Aladin.

Seems we recently had a chat about trying to achieve “perfect”. I hope you have stopped driving yourself mad, and are finding joy in your music. I recall that the guitar is your main instrument. I can’t think of a more imperfect instrument.

So go play! You said it. “Ex perfecto nihil fit”

      🎸💓🎼👍

    1. Aww, Blue has a moustache! So cool.

I’d love to find a really great snake art. You’d think there would be one. The ones I have found are along the cartoon or tattoo lines. Still, I haven’t found one recently. xx

  5. “Beauty of Imperfection”. It is a great mural and great message. Cool way to incorporate words into the painting. You say it looks aged and the paint is chipped, which I am sure adds to it in some “meta” way. Nice find!

    1. Agree, this is a meaningful find.

I like the chips and flaking. Yes, it adds a sincerity to the overall message.

I can hardly wait.. oh.. I found a beauty by accident a few days ago, about 6 blocks away!

    1. I’m with you there!

The TikTok generation seeks perfection. They have apps to make them look perfect. Reality must be a disappointment.

    1. It does look like ancient script. The lettering artist must have studied calligraphy, or something like that. It’s a fab find.

JM is up tonight! It’s a 3 piece tonight. Norm, Paul (singer and rhythm guitar)& Sasha.

I love 3 piece. Hendrix was 3 piece and so were the Police, ZZ Top, The Cream, Nirvana, Beck, Bogert & Appice (Carmen) and so many more!

      xoxoxoxo

              1. Got a good start on JM last night.
The proportions look good. Now…the feel… and details. He is quite the pretty man. It’s easy to make him a bit feminine.
The plan now is to have 1 evening this weekend where I play all Doors songs on YouTube on the TV while I draw.
                I’m feelin’ it! 🎶🎶🐭🐭🎶🎶

    1. Translation work… yes, I speak several languages.. OXen among them.

You are right John, it is a rare find. Finding is so much fun, then I get to share. It’s a wonderful thing. 🐂🐂🎨🐂🐂

  6. How cool is this?

The message, the mural, all of it. Not to mention the finder, once again going above and beyond in order to bring us yet another street find.

    You rock.

    1. I do like this one a lot, Thunder. Not all art has such a great upfront message.

I’m partial to the “Blow It” message over the nose.

      xoxoxo

    1. Ah! Interesting. Well, they are good words, anyway. The colours are terrific, and I had a blast taking the pics. Lotsa fun, thank you, Liz!

    1. I agree! If something is perfect, where can it go? It can’t become more perfect. So, it stagnates, or goes backwards into imperfection.
Tell that to the cat and see what he says? xo

      1. LOL I’ll be sure to pass it on. And you’re absolutely right, where do you go from perfection? Is there a definition of perfection that we can all agree on? I think it’s wonderful that street art reminds people of what’s important. Art + politics go hand in hand. ❤️

    1. Yes, and I love that it is older and has survived. It’s going to warm up next week. I’m excited to find a day for mural hunting.

  7. This is an awesome mural, Resa, and I’m glad you ‘translated’ for us because the words are hard to decipher. Cheers to celebrating imperfections! After all, no one is perfect, so we all should be celebrated. 🙂 Love this! Hugs xoxoxoxoxo

    1. I so agree Lauren. Who is perfect.? What is perfect?
Unfortunately internet/social media has youth tied up with ideas of perfection on a very base superficial level.

Sending hugs back, and one for Copper! Keep him away from the barb’b’que!
      (gosh I love that!)
      xoxoxo🧽🧽🧽

    1. Me too! What a wonderful time I had that day. The deciphering took a bit of time, but it was fun! Glad you got t o see this. Hope you are all better!

        1. Oh Goodie.
Now I can start bothering you about CB, again!
AND I just finished my new Art Gown.(seems a bunch of projects I started are all finishing up at the same time)
Anyway… once I take the pics and make the post… a bit away, yet, I take off a couple of weeks, then begin the new Art Gown.
The next one will be with the fabrics you sent. I have no idea yet, other than that it will be a wedding gown. 🙂 🙂 🙂

      1. I was thinking, just as I pulled into the park in which I sit, how much lovelier the little whitewashed home on its perimeter is for being a little worn, so that the bricks show through in some spots.

Our cultural love affair with the just-made-yesterday is killing our planet and scouring our souls to steril nothingness.

        1. I sure agree with you there. The gowns I make from textile trash are beautiful. People woo. Still, very few are willing to wear them. We must continue to appreciate old. I live in a 120 year old building, and I love it…even the 100 year old dirt that comes up from the cracks.

  8. What a find, Resa! It’s wonderful that you could document it in photos before the deterioration got too bad. I’m amazed by how the artist used colors, text, and designs to create the contours of the face. It’s absolutely brilliant. Thanks so much for sharing. Hugs.

    1. Thanks Teagan!
I agree! I adore this old mural. Old is cool. Everything doesn’t need to be new and shiny.
I hope one day I’ll be able to archive this blog somehow. Hugs!
