Bird in Hand

A mural for the coming spring.

I travelled across the city to Greek Town.

I found 5 works of art worth posting, 2 ruined by the sun’s shadows, 1 for just in case and 1 WTF.

All in all a fabulous day!

The day was made even better by the wonderful vibes, shops, restaurant patios and people in Greek Town.

I would definitely consider moving there when we eventually downsize. It’s a beautiful lifestyle.

    1. It was a wonderful day in Greek Town.
As you know, our forefathers stole Canada from the original aboriginal inhabitants. We are a country of immigrants.
When the immigrants began arriving at the turn of the 20th century, they settled into like communities of families and friends from whence they came.
Although some diversity has set in, the food and culture remains in each area.
The area I went to was the original area settled by Greek immigrants. There is a big festival there every year. Every time I go there, I hate to leave. It’s so charming and hospitable.

Toronto also has, Little Italy, Little Portugal, 2 Chinatowns, Koreatown, Cabbagetown (where the Irish settled), Little Poland (I live in this area), Little Jamaica, Little India (huge area), Little Malta and on and on.

There you go! Whe needs to travel the world. Just come to Toronto!

    1. Agree! Yes, I thought – if a bird landed in my hand, I’d be shaking ecstatically. Which is probably why a bird has never landed on my hand. Perhaps she is being uber tranquil so that the bird thinks she’s a statue. 🤔

      The food there is fantastic!!!

    1. Yes, I agree!

I have found LOTS of murals recently. It’s a wonderful spring, and it hasn’t really arrived yet.

Two days ago we had cool summer temperature. 18c..

I’m going for as many walks as I can now because I think the summer will be too hot.

      Take care, Martha!

    1. Yes, this is a sweet one. Love finding street art. I’m addicted.

OMG! The restaurants are so amazing there. Not only is the food terrific, but the atmospheres in the restaurants are fabulous. They all have huge out front patios which hum with joy all spring and summer. 🤗

            1. Ah! One of the benefits of living in a large urban centre….. great restaurants. I hear Chicago has fabulous restaurants.

    1. Agree! It’s a perfect spring mural. I have found a plethora of street art in the last few weeks.

Taking advantage of the nice weather and going for walks.

Why is it so warm…even HOT one day? Summer might be a hell heat misery.

      ⚡️💥 xoxo

      1. Absolutely. Can’t wait to see what you share 🙂

Yes, absolutely. We were lucky yesterday. The rest of the time Marc’s here? Nothing but crap, cold, rain and snow!! Oh well… We’ll have to find other stuff to do!

I know. It will be a hellish summer, no doubt. They are more so and more so.

        xo🧚‍♀️🌟ox

    1. It really is a pleasant mural to look at.

Yes, the blue… at first it seems to be all yellow, then the blue works its way in.

      Beautiful piece! Thanks Liz!

  1. It does sound like a fabulous day! I am very curious about the WTF you came across ;) Cool artwork, bird in hand, butterflies, roses and a bee.

    1. It was an exhilarating day.
      Ha!
You caught me at my own snobbery. How many times have I said, even if I don’t like it, shoot it!
      Someone will like it.
So, I shoot it 97% of the time.
I made excuses for this one WTF. Oh.. it’s too big. Yes, it was an entire side of a building… 50′ wide – 25 ‘ high.. something like that.
I couldn’t back up enough to get a full shot, but my Iphone 14 has the opposite of a zoom, it has mooz…. a back up kind of feature. So, I could have taken the pic. Yes, it would have been minimally distorted, but not that much.
It was abstract… lines, circles, colours. Now that I think about it, many people love abstracts.
Oh, and a few small tags. I could have touched those out, and done a before and after.
      Thanks for the reminder.
Art is subjective, and I am not an art god!

      1. I did not mean to call you out on that, but you know calling an art work ‘WTF’, well, that piques my curiosity! lol. None of us are art gods, but I do know you enough to trust your taste 🙂

        1. I like that you are curious.
It is true that I have posted art I’m not fond of, and others love it, and vice versa.
Thank you! I’m glad you like art. 🙂🙂

  2. As for the vibe of this mural, it speaks to what you write about. There’s a unique flavor happening, the colors each taking a turn on center stage.

PS- Did you know I used to live in Bird In Hand? Pa.

      1. You always supply, Resa.

Yeah, it’s a quaint little town. Intercourse is just four miles east of it. Yes, that is also a town name. As is Blue Ball.

  3. Oh, the colours take me on a trip! Still, the scene where the bird looks so relaxed directly into the woman’s eyes is fascinating. We might confess that the Greeks are some extraordinary people. Thank you for another excellent discovery, my lovely lady.💖🖖💕🦋🤙

    1. The colours are uplifting.
Agree! I confess the Greeks are extraordinary people.
It really is a fabulous area of the city.
      ❦❦🌺💙🥰

  4. Again this mural is fantastic . The use of colour is superb, the blues of the young lady, birds, butterflies and the Bumblebee’s wings is genius – they stand out but don’t overpower and take over the whole picture. Thanks for sharing….but I’m starting to wish I lived in your city even more with each post you publish!

    1. I quite like this mural, too. Honestly, I have so much art in my photo files, I just don’t know what to wear to the party….

To me, the best part of living in Toronto is the street art. Certainly it’s not the cost of living here.
      Cheers!

  5. Lovely scene – there’s a sadness about the woman and bird (blue) but the profusion of color against the bright yellow background makes hope seem possible.

    1. Yes, I thought that about the woman. Perhaps the artist was sad and hence the bluebird.

I’ve always wanted a bird to land in my hand. I would have a huge smile and be shaking with glee, which is probably why a bird never landed. Serenity is needed, I’m sure.

    1. It’s a great spring mural. I have found so much art. I had to take advantage of the nice weather, soreness and all.

It’s getting cold and rainy, again, so I’m gad I did! xoxo

    1. You are so welcome, dear John!

I’m wildly addicted to finding street art, so I am thankful there’s an audience to share it with!

      🎨𝐗 🐂 🐂 🎨𝐗

    1. It was a fab day! Good weather fresh air and art make it for me.
So, I’m doing the post on a secret page right now.
As it is not a book review, but more about all you do outside your career, your writing (for children and adults), photography, , fondant art…. and that it teaches many things, especially environmental understanding and love of animals… I want to make sure I don’t misrepresent you or your intentions. (which would be unintentional) OR to make your intentions clearer, more precise.
Anyway, I’ll send you a link and passcode when I have it roughed in.
I think what you are doing is amazing and I want this to be a great post.🌷🦋

      1. Hi Resa, thank you so much. I am so delighted that you are so interested in the natural environment and are so passionate about living your values. We have so much in common. There are quite a few of us in the blogosphere and it gives me so much hope for the future. I’ll look out for your link but please don’t rush. I know you are also very busy 🦋🩵

        1. Yes, I won’t rush. I want this to be good. Just grabbed a few videos.
Love the lion painting. I would love a still of that, if possible? 🦋🩵
(loved that little lizard crossing the road..omg so sweet!)

          1. Hi Resa, I’ll email you the Lion picture. My Art gallery is behind 🤦‍♀️. The chameleon made me laugh. So cute. You have to be careful moving them off the road; they can die of shock 💝

            1. I didn’t know they could die of shock.
I hope it did not get trodden upon or run over.
We have really interfered with wildlife’s existence.💝

  6. I can understand why you wouldn’t want to leave here right away. Such gorgeous vivid colors , this mural comes alive! I could definitely imagine settling there too. I’m so glad you had such a wonderful day and for sharing it.
    xoxoxo

          1. Such a great time we’d have , searching For wall art , popping into the coffee shop. Wouldn’t that be lovely 🤗👯‍♀️🤗

I saw a document about wolves in the frozen tundra. Better bring fire wood.

            1. We would have a blast!
Looking for wall art is a get away for me, a getting lost.
I love my life, and part of that is getting lost from it. If that makes any sense?
              Yikes! The tundra!
Maybe I saw the same docu?
Wolves, yet another animal man has marginalized. The polar bears also come to mind.
This might sound ridiculous, but I wish I could hug wolves and polar bears.
              xo🤗👯‍♀️🤗ox

                1. Haven’t seen “Wolves”. Yeah, they are scary… and beautiful.
Going to draw Gigi in an Azalea hat!
                  xoxoxo
Music nights are now set aside for drawing portraits. Yahoo! xxxxx

    1. It was such a great day in a wonderful place.
Hope you are feeling better, and I just sent you a mail with a Lelaine. 🌺

  7. Yay you taking on new territory for art looking. Fab find in Greektown. I’ll be they haven’t seen the last of you now. 🙂 ❤ xxx

    1. You’re right on that one, Debby!
I’m glad I got out while we had an early spring moment! What a great area!
      🌺xo💐💖

    1. It’s a pleasant mural, freshly painted
We did have sun. It was a freak few days.
Today it snowed. The wind was so strong, it snowed sideways.
The weather is different here than it was. The change started being noticeable about 10 years ago.
Now, it doesn’t resemble the way it used be at all.

  8. That’s great you found a potential place to retire to and felt the vibes were “home” 🙂 I’m loving the bright yellow, the bird, the overall connection with nature xx

    1. It’s a lovely mural. Yes, the vibes were “home”.
Hey, the 2024 list of the 20 happiest countries came out – Canada is #15.
Toronto made #6 on the world’s safest cities. xx

        1. Yes, it would be nice to higher on the happy meter. Still, we are on it. It’s interesting that the Scandinavian countries are all so high. xx
You will notice that the USA is not on it!

            1. The US is divided politically at this time.
Being divided is not the end of a world, but people must learn to accept other pov’s, beliefs, etc, while maintaining their own, and find a middle ground of mutual respects and tolerances.
Right now it seems most are “My way or the highway!”
This thinking just leads to the low way.

    1. This mural is a beauty.
The streets are filled with the work of talented young artists. It is a showcase for upcoming talent.
There’s also established artists, who do it for the joy.
Whatever, I love it all and am thrilled the passion wall art is playing itself out where I live.
      xoxo🥰🌻🎨💐
