Kittens Under a Bridge

While on a streetcar going to the east end to look for art, I saw this,

…. under a bridge,

… in the dirt,

… on pieces of cut out and painted wood.

Several stops later, I disembarked the streetcar, and walked back.

It was a dry day. Brand new white sneakers were upon my feet.

It was difficult to capture the scene in its entirety, as it was low to the ground,

… and there was a yellow cable holder right in the centre.

The only spot I found where the full shots could be taken from, was in rather wide, deep patch of muck.

Best way to break in new sneakers, ever!

      1. Sorry this is a longish tale. Like you, young Ms Resa, cats are my favourites. Always have been, always will, but not where we live these days…the main road into town is too close to keep cats safe. But get this…it’s a true story, mad it might seem. When I was a small kid, my mum acquired a little ginger cat for me. I loved it, it loved me. I was, I understand, two years and a bit old when ‘Ginger’ the cat lived with me for ‘four years’…but, big but, he didn’t. Back then, the family lived in a hovel on the side of the large road into London. Ginger no.1 got runover not long after he arrived; then the same happened to Ginger no.2, 3, 4, 5, 6 who all died in the road. What my mother did was, every time a cat got killed she’d buy another that looked the same as the previous one, so I’d think them the same cat! As I’ve said, I was just 2 when this started, they all looked to me the same cat. I didn’t know, I was too young. I was 4, maybe 5 when it struck me that the new Ginger plainly wasn’t my Ginger. Some years on I tackled mum. She told me that she had to buy new ones rather than tell me the deaths of others. How stupid is that. To this day, it haunts me. All the very best, TOF

        1. Aww, poor Gingers!
TOF, I understand how that can haunt you!
I am haunted by earlier memories of cats. My parents had strange ideas about animals. They had no respect for animals, none whatsoever.
Yet, I carry guilt for all the cats (and 1 turkey) that were unfortunate enough to come to our home.
Their influence took years to completely eradicate.
Becoming a vegetarian when I left home was the beginning.
Thank you for sharing this. I don’t feel so alone.

          1. ‘Tis a weird world, that’s for sure. We love our animals, others don’t care. So many humans don’t give a damn about the cats and dogs. We do, though. All the best, TOF

    1. Thank you, Annika! I adore hunting for street art. I. It’s a real treasure hunt!t keeps me going. I love that I never know what I’ll find next. So glad you saw these kitties!

    1. I love this cat art.
      🙂🙂
Yes, and now I don’ have to worry about keeping my sneakers clean any more. The mystery is; why do I keep buying white ones?

    1. Thank you, Alaedin! You have a point. Many times when I am photographing art in the street, someone will look at me, and can’t figure out what I’m taking pics of.
After looking around they might see the art, but not always.
      🎨❤️xo❤️🎨

      1. And, here she is: the messenger of awakening slept minds! I am not joking, my lovely Resa; you act a good thing to many poor souls whose eyes are not open.🤙🤗🌟🙏😘

        1. Aww, thank you, Alaedin! Well, I must say street art wakes me up, too!
It’s a wonderful thing also because it makes me want to walk and walk and walk.
          🤙🤗🌟🙏😘 back at ya!

    1. Thanks Tim! Yeah, it’s an adorable work of art. I kept looking around for a stray with kittens. I would have scrapped the day, grabbed a cab and taken them home. xx

    1. I know! The streetcar went by so fast, I’m surprised it registered. It took about 3 more stops to think…I’m going back! 😻👟👟😻

  1. How creative and lovely to find under a bridge. I always marvel at the generosity of artists who create something like this and then give it to the world. And sorry about the new sneakers, Resa, but you’re right – a great way to break them in.

    1. Thank you for your kind comment, Diana!

Artists want to show their art, and galleries can barely scratch the surface of all the art available. The streets and alleys make a wonderful free gallery.
Sometimes I feel like taking one of my Art Gowns to Graffiti Alley and gluing it to a wall.

As a writer, you know how difficult is is to break into that world. It’s the same with all of the arts.
I was writing/painting poetry (not mine, but from unknowns) on walls. Street poetry, I called it.
Right! Sneakers are all broken in. Lol!

        1. Hahaha! You sound like my Norman.
I want to display somewhere. I have been searching.
Thank you for. the idea of just 1 window.
That gives me more places to look!

  2. Ah, best way to break in new …white[!] sneakers indeed! Totally worth it!
What a wonderfully adorable find, dahling!
    Hera loves them too!
    Meowoof!

  3. Hi Resa, I’d look at it this way….the dirt on your sneakers will form a memory that is easily washed off and forgotten but you’ll remember these kitty cats forever (plus we have your fab pics to look back on and preserve the memory).
And one final thought..in the last image, the panoramic setting makes the fence curve and looks like a Viking longship or Dragon-boat resting on it’s stand so the kitties look like they’re in a boat! Thanks as always.

    1. Lol! The kitties look like they’re on a boat. That’s the last place cats want to be.
Viking, eh. I have a Viking theme post coming up on Art Gowns.
      Great minds think alike.

Thanks for stopping by, Tyeth! I’ll be by to comment on your last post soon.

  4. It is truly remarkable that by chance, you were able to witness this extraordinary exhibition of adorable felines, Resa! Serendipity in action.!!! I truly appreciate the efforts of individuals who dedicate their time to making the world a more compassionate and beautiful place. Thank you for stopping to bear witness the artwork – to someone’s effort at creating a space that added joy to our day.

    1. I agree! It’s wonderful how I can just walk or ride through the city and stumble onto art.
Sometimes I feel like gluing one of my Art Gowns onto a wall!
Also, as I have bee looking around at and for gallery spaces, I see a huge lacking. (that is a whole big discussion) It’s not a wonder artists just go paint on a wall somewhere, anywhere!
Even though I have a stash of street art to get through the winter, I just want to get back out there and find more.
Viewing art, any art in real life is ultimate!
Thank you for your wonderful & thoughtful comments, Rebecca!

    1. Thanks Sue, I love this work.
I am a cat person, so that helps.
Still, under a bridge, someone has added beauty to this city.
It’s one of the best aspects of living in Toronto…the street art. xo💞xo

      1. I, too, Resa always kept 🐈 cats, or should I say they own me, not the other way around. A cat is a free spirit and chooses who it wants to stay with, lol. My present cat, a rescue which his owners no longer wanted when I tracked them, then down.
        He’s 13, and we’ve had him 4 years.

I love the LOVE, Poured into those paintings . Wonderful. Xx, I’m so glad you spotted them 💕

        1. Sue, you are a cat angel. I’m sure they all would pick you.
I do know what you mean. All my cats were / are strays. They all picked me.
You are right, there is LOVE in this painting. I’m so happy you got to see this!
          💕💕💕

    1. You are a cat person, so of course you think that!
LOL! You just made me flash on, once Norm had been working a on a song. Tracks (some programmed, some live)and vocals were all down. He called me in for a listen.
The sound of a cat scratching in the litter box, in time, had infiltrated. I loved it. I think he left it in, you know…kind of a maracas effect.

          1. Even though it was an old recording, I posted it to YouTube a few years ago. I have it on my blog if you want the link. It happens during a really, really dark part where the music was minimal, and there is a weird cry.. lol

            1. Yeah, send the link!
              I’ll listen!
Hey, My internet connection is on crutches. Your blog is still coming in! I do see you posted the song. Yay!

                1. Thanks! I will listen!!!
                  The connection seems okay, now.
Just in time for a jam session downstairs. There’s a new drummer coming tonight. I hope he’s good.
The music goes nowhere if the drums and bass guitar aren’t good and working together!

  5. What a fabulous find, Sorceress, and well worth the breaking in of new sneakers… May I suggest you get a black pair for when you go traipsing about in the muck?
    So cool.

        1. Yeah… black sneakers… there’s no danger, no excitement.
Now white, there’s a risky pair of footwear.
I can look like hell, a bum, but if I have a pair of a cool brand of pristine white sneakers, I get respect! xoxoxo

      1. They are amazing kitties , someone liked cats as much as we do. Mr.B sends a big meow ! The other night he dragged the fishing pole 🎣 with his favorite “ worm” on it up to the sink and some how the line wrapped around the faucet and turned on the water. He came running into get Hubs to save the day ( or night). He’s too smart!!!
        xoxoxo

        1. Yikes! That is smart.
Jeep wants to know if Mr. B has a GF?
She’s been seeing one of Tim’s cats, but you know cats cat around!
          xoxoxo

    1. No worries! WP is inconsistent. I don’t get mails of some the blogs I love, and then I’m inundated with mails for …meh!
      Hey ..Happy Valentine’s! 💘💘

  6. Sweet, sweet kitties! Thank you for bringing them to us 😊🐈 We have 2 calicos and I loved seeing them in the art here. We also have an orange cat that likes to munch on our window blinds lol

    1. 3 cats… what a joy! I had 3, but 1 was about 7 years older. He was orange and passed away.
Johnny, the youngest had to be put to sleep a couple months ago. Broke my heart.
      I miss him a lot.
Jeep destroyed our blinds, so I get what you mean. I just changed them, as they had taken on a post war look.
      We love cats!!!

      1. Aw, I’m sorry to hear about Johnny, Layla. They are our kids and that is so tough. You gave him a good life, and I’m sure he knew how much you loved him.
Jeep and our Nemo are blinds biters! Oh dear, we will have to replace them at some point.
        Yes, we love cats!

    1. I missed this comment!

It’sover a moth old, Eunice, so don’t worry what post it’s from.

Just want to say thank you for popping by!

      Hugs!

    1. LOL! Sorry for the late reply, Lauren.
Each of my blogs is attached to a different email, so I have to log in and out and in. Anyway, I’m back onGlam for a bit! xoxo
