1500 Posts Gala

Welcome blogivision viewers to GLAM’s 1500th post! It’s a G0-Go Gala & I’m MC Boogapony Holly.!

Tonight’s theme is GLAM’s tagline, “Luxuriating in the Arts”. You will be treated to poetry, music, dancing, painting, comedy, graffiti and lots of cool fashion, as I work my way through costume changes.

My fab outfit above is inspired by the poem below, which in turn was inspired by a different outfit. That said outfit was inspired by a fusion of 2 groovy personalities. One was real, and the other imagined. Try and guess the answer to this riddle! Outfit, more clues & answer are at the end!

Okay! Time to liven things up! Time to“Pony On Down” Graffiti Alley to the vintage harmonies of “The Beach Boys”!

That was exhilarating and exhausting. Good thing I have this stunning Graffiti Lux art wall that looks like stained glass to lean on. Which brings us to the art part of our show.

Below is a mural, rendered in a realism style, of Charlie Chaplin and a vaudeville company in 1914. Charlie stayed at the now decrepit hotel it is painted on. Learn more about this mural on a podcast featuring moi, on Tea Toast and Trivia!

However, art has been created in many styles over time. Right now I’m thinking of the successful artist of the 60’s, Andy Warhol. He began the Pop Art movement. Crazy what he did with soup cans.

Not to be forgotten is Op Art. However, to be totally original, I’m starting the Oops Art Movement, as imagined above!

Now, for the first time on any stage anywhere, to present GLAM’s commemorative gift to all of you, is my kid sister. Take it away Boogalu LuLu!

So, umm, like before I tell you what the gift is, I got this song to play for you. Don’t let the treacle voice of 26 year old Bella Poarch fool you! The  message is killer.

Okay, so like, you’re all getting a free Boogapony Holly Paper Doll download. Don’t worry, the paper doll won’t kill you! Although you might get a paper cut, so there is that.

….. And thank you Boogalu LuLu! That was … a song!

Now it’s time for more clues and the  RIDDLE ANSWER!

Here I am in the originally inspired fusion outfit, that inspired Holly’s poem. Take a good look! There’s 2 personalities in the styling.

More Clues – can you guess who the 2 personalities are?

Before the curtain closes on GLAM’s Go-Go Gala, I’m going to Go-Go my way through some surrealistic art to the sounds of  Corey Hart singing.

Thank you all for being here to help me celebrate, dear friends! Now, I leave you with a parting question and a final fashion tip:

QUESTION

If a multitude of graffiti tags are all piled upon each other in 1 spot, does that create a work of art in its own right?

FASHION TIP

I think this is a Portuguese Rooster.

We have lots of variations of these roosters in Toronto, and they are all gorgeous.

The background looks like a vintage dinner plate design.

This stencil art is on a garage door.

This is my 1499th post. I hope you’ll all join me on Sunday, when GLAM presents its 1500th Go-Go Gala.

Cameron House

The Cameron House was built in 1880.

In 1895, the structure became the “John Burns Hotel.”

In 1896, it became the “Cameron House”.

In the early 1920’s it became a working hotel.

In 1981 it became a venue/hotel for the bohemian arts crowd featuring music, performance, and visual art.

It remains so to this day.

The music venue holds about 60 people.

We Rise Above

I went to Cabbage Town. There’s usually lots of art there.

Not much there this year, but WOW, pollinator gardens everywhere.

Butterflies, bees and crazy busy insect flight zones in every garden.

It was a wonderful happening.

Based on a true story, The Sapphires is a great movie about 4 girls who rose above.

Famous Artists and Their Models

In the March 23, 1962 issue of Life magazine was an article titled “Famous Artists and Their Models”.

In getting rid of stuff, old magazines used for research are going. I bought them in the early 2000’s when I was working for Showtime.

In going through the magazines, I found this article. It is so fascinating, I have to share.

Nick of time, the magazine crumbled as I held it. I did my best taking pics.

The articles are photographed and presented in a way to see and read best.

I adore all of the anecdotal editorial that came with these fabulous images.

Click on the cover of the issue, and it will take you to a PDF of the article as presented in the magazine, as opposed to how I have presented. It is downloadable.

I can’t think of a more fitting work of music than “Frozen” by MK-O, featuring our dear dahling Marina on vocals ( & more). After all, the models are gone, but the images that came from their poses are frozen in time.
