Bricks’n’Nicks on 26!

🎉 HAPPY NEW YEAR! 🎉

Hi there! I’m Bricks, and that there back-up pigeon behind me is Nicks. We’ve been rhabdomancing around the hood, searching for this year’s water supply, but what do we find instead?

Nicks– Slogans, advice, info, euphemisms, catchphrases, idioms, shibboleth, jargon, information, direction, reminders … like –

OR

Bricks -So, while we are walkin’ the walk and gettin’ the straight street talk, we figure we might as well pass it on to you humans. After all, you need it more than we do.

Nicks – Yeah, you humans need to chill out!

Bricks – That’s right. Slow down and Inhale/Exhale!

Nicks – Be Kind -Unwind!

Bricks – Of course some of the information can be disturbing.

Nicks – You mean like this one?

Nicks – How can anyone on the planet be illegal? Yet, we need to be reminded?

Bricks – Yeah, the reminders can be pointed. BUT some messages are more positive Euphemisms, like –

AND

AND

AND

Nicks – Well, are they euphemisms or advice or sayings?

Bricks– You’re makin’ me think to hard, and thinkin’s like work. You know what they say!

Bricks – But of course you’ll just keep asking questions, makin’ me think. You just can’t stop!

Bricks – Won’t Stop!

Nicks – That’s right! So, are we doves, Bricks? I want to be a dove? Can we be doves?

Bricks – YES! We are doves; big, fat, colourful street doves. But why do you care?

Nicks – Because I want to wish everyone PEACE & LOVE in this New Year!

Bricks – Well, that’s a dream.

Nicks – If I can dream it, I can live it!

Bricks – I’m down with that!

  1. Happy New Year! What vibrant and wise sayings shown to us by Brick & Nicks – gives one a positive feeling for the new year! Oh yes, you can be doves, the peace they represent is much needed. Wishing you a creative 2026, Resa.

    1. Thank you and Happy New Year, Annika!

Yes, Bricks and Nicks are a positive duo, and want humans to have a great year!
      I do too!
      🕊🌟

    1. Happy New Year, Merril! 🕊🌟

I’m so fortunate to have so much love and peace in my own life. I want it for the world! (always have)

Happy New Year, Bricks and Nicks. I love all the sayings. “Don’t be a hard rock…” reminded me that I’m still an old chunk of coal, and I’m still hoping to be a diamond one day.

    1. Happy New Year back to you, Tim!
      Lol!
Hard coal… to a diamond ..hmm. I think you are close to diamond now.
Jake, the cats and your birds know you are a diamond.

I’d like to be a ruby. But first I would have to be corundum. Now, there’s a conundrum!

      1. Timothy Price's avatar Timothy Price

Hahaha! The old corundum conundrum. Maybe a little rum and a roll of a drum, and you will come forth as a beautiful ruby.

  3. Great finds to start off a new year. We have doves here, but they certainly aren’t as colorful as these two sages. 🙂 A happy, blessed 2026 to you and yours, Resa! Love from all of us.

    1. Thank you, Janet!
I’ve seen doves in the suburbs, but in the city core… it’s all pigeons.

The best of everything to you and yours in 2026! 🕊✨

    1. Happy New Year! 🕊✨
I wish the same for you and yours, Brad!
And, you are the most alliterate person I know.
      Every exclamation is endlessly excellent!!!

    1. Yes, according to Bricks and Nicks – Birds and words is the answer this year.

“for the birds” is definitely a positive angle for humans!

Gee, I guess it follows that it will be a great year for cats, too. I mean with all of us birds about. 🕊😺🕊

  7. Bricks and Nicks are the tour guide duo I didn’t know I needed to navigate the new year with. Lots of color from a couple of colorful characters. Happy New Year to them, as well as you and yours, Resa!

    1. Hey Bruce,

Was just on your blog, and liked 2 posts. Thank you!

It was doing this weird flickery thing, which seems to mean (from my experience) that my message will go into Spam.

I just want you to know I appreciate your posts, even if I don’t comment.

      I’ve Spam issues, for years.

      ❦ 🕊♥︎~✿❀✿~♥︎~🕊❦

      1. Hey, Resa…I recently learned from experience the frustration with having comments go to someone’s spam. And it isn’t 100% of the time between your site and mine…just on occasion. I have gotten comments from you without any issues, a couple indeed did go into spam, but I didn’t get any this time (if you tried to leave one today). You’re one of my valued readers…and that’s all that matters!😊

        1. Hey Bruce,

Thank you! I value your readership, as well!

3 things I’ve learned about going into blog Spam folders is-

1 – You need to be able to contact the blogger to free you.
          – Make sure the blog you are commenting on is established AND they have left a comment on 1 of your posts. This way you have their email (all blog comments are attached to email accounts on your comments page in the dashboard) so you can mail and ask them to free you. Also, you can send them a reply comment, from your blog, from the post they commented on.

OR – If they are new to you, and you would like to leave a comment on their blog – Make sure they have a CONTACT PAGE

          2 – The weird flicker-
Sometimes when I go to a blog, it doesn’t come in normal. It “flickers” in. I find when this happens, My comment WILL be going into Spam. If you leave a comment, and it flickers fast, check to see if your comment is there! It probably isn’t.
Your blog was flickering when I was there, so I didn’t chance leaving a comment.

Contact the blogger asap, as your comments on other blogs will begin to go into Spam. It spreads – fast.

3 – If the SUBSCRIBE button in the lower right is not green, refresh. It should turn green. Then it is usually okay to comment.

If the blog does not have a SUBSCRIBE button, you are taking a chance, so make sure you have a way to contact the person.

Right now I am in a Spam folder, and the person has NOT removed me, even though it has been requested. I will not visit them, until they remove me. If they don’t, I will ask Akismet to remove me, which is a massive hassle.

As your blog was doing the Flicker thing, and I am already in a Spam folder, I decided not to leave a comment on your blog. Once 2 are in Spam…. 3 will be in Spam.

I enjoy your posts, and will leave comments in the future. I just need to be freed from the Spam I am in.

  8. Resa, such a great artsy post to start the new year.

My fav image was the one about not being a hard rock, but a GEM – but loved the images that gace us this warm and rich start to a new year

    xxx

    1. Thank you Yvette! I just wanted to start the year with some wise fun.
It’s always great to get things off to a positive start.
      xxxx

  9. Hello Resa, as others have eloquently put it, this is an outstanding way to start 2026….amazing art, memorable messages….but now I “Can’t Stop!” thinking of the Red Hot Chili Peppers!
    Thanks as always.

  10. Happy New Year, Resa! I love how you let the murals do the talking here.
Each one feels like a pause button in public space, colour interrupting routine, humour interrupting hurry. I’m especially struck by how these works speak without insisting. They invite rather than explain. A good way to begin a new year. Wishing you many more visual discoveries in 2026!! Sending many hugs across the miles.

    1. Happy New Year dear Rebecca!
Yes, I figured what better than to start the year off with some smart fun.
Perhaps it will just stay on that theme?
All the very best to you and yours!
      HUGS!

  11. Love pigeons! Those 2 are deffo on the upper echelons (posh word) of the pigeon excellence barometer. Good find, don’t destroy that piece. Leave the wall be. It deserves to stay. 👍

  12. The plumage is what hit me right in the kisser. Love the bursts and pops, and they set the tone for the rest of your finds. All bursts and pops and WOWs.

All work and no play made Jack Nicholson famous (The Shining).

    1. Ahh, the proof is in the plumage!
Yes, a fun mural to start off a fun year. It will be fun, right?
      Who can I hold accountable?

Oh, that’s right… JN in The Shining… He made a GREAT creep.
But he never looked better than the scenes in Chinatown when his nose is bandaged.

I could hear producers in the BG saying how many scenes will he have part of his face covered? His face is real estate that we paid a lot for. When can we lose the bandage?

Like when I designed costumes for a movie “Santa Who”. Leslie Neilson played Santa. disney kept saying, does he have to wear the beard? We can’t tell who it is!

They ended up writing in a scene where Santa get his beard shaved.

      MUAH NEW YEAR!

      1. I like that! Yet another feather in your brilliant cap.

Ummm, so many people we could hold accountable, so little time!

        Chinatown was a classic alright.

Hahahaha! I never thought about it that way but you make a good point. Real estate . . bahahaha! So true though.

        That’s a problem!

        Problem solved!

        MUAH!

  13. What a Sweetman Nick is with his beautifully vibrant Nicks and Bricks. Many thanks for your New Year’s collection of wise advice, Resa! Gives me a lovely glow on a rainy day in high desert country.

    1. Nick is an amazing artist, and he loves painting all animals, insects, fish…

Thank you for your lovely comment, Cheyenne!
      You live in the desert?
      HNY! 🕊

    1. Back at you, Michael! Happy 26!!!

      Fished you out of Spam!

We all need to check Spam folders a few times a week. Often blog followers of year are found in there, along wth scum.

  14. Oh, my dear friend, I can’t add anything more to this advice! I cherish all of them, especially ‘No One in the World is Illegal.’ You make us think!

Happy New Year, and here’s to hope for peace and love everywhere in the world.

    🤗🎉🎊🎇💕😘😘

    1. Thank you dear Aladin, and YES, peace and love.

I just wanted a positive tone to start the New Year.
Lol… yes Bricks and Nicks might be hard core street birds, but they are full of dove love.
      Hugs on Doves wings!

    1. Yes, I agree, the colour is fabulous. I’m hoping the year ahead is filled with such happy colours!
      You are welcome, Violet and

  15. Awwww!! Cute and wise neon-colored pigeons aptly named Bricks’n’Nicks, LOVE it!! “Don’t be a hard rock when you really are a gem” – how awesome is THAT sentiment, we all need to hear it. You are so creative, Resa… thanks for constantly inspiring us… here’s to a healthier, more joyful + peaceful 2026 + beyond! ✨

      XOXO ❦🕊❀
(Just about to write you a mail!)

  18. Big, bright, colorful “street doves.” LOL They have attitude, Resa. And I appreciate the tour of the hood to check out the “Slogans, advice, info, euphemisms, catchphrases, idioms, shibboleth, jargon, information, direction, and reminders.”

My favorite: “It’s going to be okay.” I needed to hear that one.

Super fun post, my friend. ❤

    1. Thanks Diana!
I just wanted to start the year off on a funny bone note.
I like your fave. Mine is “You became the thing they feared the most a artist” – LOL and I married the person they feared the most – a musician.

So, a couple of things came to light, but the root cause is still a mystery.
The next test is … soon… waiting on a date.
There is only 1 of these machines in Toronto, so it must be cutting edge $$$$.
It focuses on 1 only specific piece/area of a specific part.

Than you for your lovely words! I’ll be by soon. xx
