I can’t hold myself back! I have to post this geisha that I found.

  1. This Geisha . . as the kids say . . is EVERYTHING. You were right about her, Resa, it’s mesmerizing! It’s such a great way to start my morning so muchas gracias lovely!

    1. Lol! EVERYTHING!

      Kids are funny ….. sometimes.

I’d walked almost 2 hours down drab alleys, then SUDDENLY – this piece of beauty.

      Walking sure pays off!

      MUAH!

    1. Agree about the black background. I bought black art paper, but I haven’t been able to do something wonderful yet. It’s not easy painting on black.

  2. That’s great! I can see why you were so excited by finding that piece of beautiful artwork. I don’t blame you for not being able to resist posting so soon, even having to push back other planned posts. Here is to more walking/exploring! You never know what you will see around the next corner.

    1. Thanks Trent!

Yes, I’m actually squeeeeeeeezing it in. That means I’ll be catching up again.

Walking, for me, is an unbeatable physical activity. I might say that for you, but then there’s kayaking, which you love, and you always seem to be doing something active and healthy.

Oh, and I could see another art on black; stars/heavenly bodies, like the blossoms and a goddess (Hera, or Artemis) where the geisha is.

I wish someone would paint that!

        1. Yes, and I have tried my hand. Thing is, spray paints are the way to go. They work best because they don’t sink into wood or brick, and only require 1 coat.

I’ve had a few lessons from artists’ in the alleys. There is a lot of technique involved.

I was concerned about the aerosol thing, but have learned recently that is not a concern with spray anymore and they are recyclable.

          So, maybe I’ll try again!

    1. It’s a bit of a trend here for the last 10 years…paint your garage door.
This geisha was a stand alone in its alley, but in some alleys all of the garage doors are painted.
      It’s like a competition.

    1. Thanks John!
      I adore this art.
I’ve never been good at waiting, yet many have told me I have great patience.
II see now that I’m my own oxymoron.

  4. WHOA!! What a spectacular find, Resa! It must’ve stopped you on your tracks when you saw this stunning Geisha. I totally understand why you couldn’t wait to share, thank you for this inspiring beauty… hope you’re enjoying your Saturday!

P.S. I promise to reply with a longer email by tomorrow! 😘

    1. Hello Ruth!

      Sorry for the tardy reply!

Yes, I adore this Geisha. I read this comment, and thought I had replied. This happens sometimes when I rely on that annotator up in the right hand corner, and don’t actually scroll through comments to reply.

Although, before the next post goes up, I usually roll a check.

Sometimes I write a reply, in the annotator, and forget to hit send.

I got your email, and will reply after this.

Also, I did a drawing of Janis Joplin. My friend Holly and I do these colab posts on famous musicians. I draw she writes. The post went up on the 25th. I reblogged it on Art Gowns.

So, I have been spending time over there. Her blog is popular, so a LOT of comments, and wherever anyone compliments my art, I comment back.

Thank you for your comment, Ruth!

Our new friendship is important to me. xxxx

      1. Hello Resa!! Yeah, I think WP gets weird sometimes when you reply using the sidebar ‘annotator’ thing-y instead of going to the post directly to comment. It can be tough for you as you got SO MANY comments!

I love your Janis Joplin drawing! I’m afraid she’s an artist/musician I’m not familiar with but I knew her life was marked with tragedy.

I also just read your interview with Teagan about her steampunk drawings and books. WOW! You have been super busy!!

I really value our friendship too! It’s been such a blessing that we found each other on the blogosphere! 🫶

        1. Lol!
          That darn annotator!
Yes, I guess I have been busy. I like being busy.
Although sometimes I have so much I want to post, I just have to calm down and it’s one post at a time….like one day at a time.

Of course I’d go mad if I did a post a day! Mwwaahhh!

Okay… NOW I’m going to go sew and draw!

          1. I used to do like 4-5 posts a week when I just started but can’t do it anymore! I have a 9-5 job M-F so 40 hours of my week have to be devoted to work. I might blog more after I retire LOL!

            1. 4-5 posts a week?
              That’s a lot.
Still, you seem to post at a good rate.
              Some post very day.
I like to do around 2 a week. I just got into a busy moment, and also couldn’t control putting up the Geisha.
              xx

              1. I think I’ve managed to do only 2-3 posts a week now, though I really need to learn to write shorter reviews, ahah. It’s tough though as there are so much to say with certain films, y’know.

                1. You say lots about the films, because you love movies.
Shorter reviews could bring in more audience, and be easier on you.
Lots of people don’t like reading long texts.

No worries, though. Your posts are fab.

  5. This is breathtakingly beautiful , it seems it should be in an art museum but then not everyone could enjoy this. I love Japanese art. Thanks for sharing this amazing street art.
    xoxoxoxoxoxo

    1. Thanks, Meece!
      xoxoxo
I got off the street car early…still about a 2 hour walk home. I felt alley lucky. It was the only piece I found, so the walk was worth it.
      🐭xoxoxo🐭

                1. Yes!
I have wanted to draw gowns that have a specific theme.. like Japanese, Native American, Mexican, African, etc.
I do have questions about wherein do “cultural appropriation” and “cultural appreciation” each stand.
I just looked it up, and I get the basic idea that to exactly copy art from a culture and make $$$ from it is appropriation.

The rest is about as clear as mud.

  6. I love how you are catching up with this spectacular mural, Resa!! Geisha represent a fascinating aspect of Japanese culture, embodying grace, elegance, and skill in various traditional arts such as music, dance, and tea ceremony. (I just finished watching Shogun) The mystique surrounding their lives and the dedication they exhibit in preserving cultural traditions resonate deeply with me.

    1. LOL!
      You’re fab Rebecca!
      Catching up… 😂
      Is “catching down” an expression?
Shogun is fabulous. It swept the Emmys.

I too am fascinated by Japanese culture. Norm’s mom was Japanese Canadian. Her parents were born in Japan.
Unfortunately she was one of the incarcerated during WWII.

I learned a lot from her about Japanese culture. It’s a wonderful thing.

Still, I’m almost caught up. Judith Leyster is only awaiting my questions for you to be typed in, which you will please take your time answering!

I got side tracked with a post on “The Breast”, which will be out in a few days.

      Big Hugs flying across Canada!

  7. Resa, I’m glad you followed your heart and posted this. She is exquisite. Her face feels in the present, yet her body seems ghostly. Together it feels like an ethereal being with consciousness and intellect. Captivating. Hugs.

    1. Thanks Teagan. Following one’s heart does pay off most often.
She is exquisite. I like your description, interpreted like a true artist!
      Hugs!

  8. Of course! Why wait? Perfect. Even the dark background of the garage door serves to emphasize the delicate painting. I don’t have a garage door in the city otherwise I’d hire the artist.

    Thank you Resa.

    1. It truly is a stunning painting… and in an alley.

Lol… I don’t have a garage either. However, I did get a Monarch Butterfly and some Burners painted on one of our outside wall as few years ago.

      Thank you, Brian! xx

    1. I love pink.
We are painting our hallway, and I chose pink. From the look on N’s face…pink is not his first choice…or any choice.
      I have not given up!

      1. Well my darling, it took 9 years and a burnt kitchen for me to finally run past the Mr what I saw re the kitchen decor the day we first stepped into this house…….Oh and get it too. BUT he does like the new bed throw in the cosy winter bedroom I actually got from Temu of all places and honestly colour wise it is epic, cosiness wise too so I think this is do-ab;e. PS.. in keeping with what is already on one wall there, there will be flower murals. They will just match that throw.

        1. I think you have great design chops.
I love the pics of the kitchen you sent me.
Flower murals to match a throw …… oh I love that!
          xxxxxxxxx

          1. Your ladies you drew hang in the dining room, it is shabby chic, largely cos we were out of money so I made paint glazes and rag rolled. That bedroom—the other one is kind of old faded colonial style, (it’s out over the gardnen and mainly glass)–well it has awful old anaglypta wall paper on it and I won’t removeit cos I did that in our last house and all the plastering came off with it. So right now it’s a mishmash of blue, and purple with some of the flowers that are patterned on the damned paper painted. If I make it a dark dusky reddish pink and keep the blue paintwork and furniture I would repaint the flowers to match some of the panels on the throw and add more . I am jsut looking for the reddy pink color, cos I do not want to avhe to repaint the woodwork and furniture. xxxxxxxxxx

            1. Oooo! Shabby chic! that describes my current style.
I say that, because I’m tired of spending $$$ on garbage clothing.
I keep everything and just mix’n’match with the odd new idea (usually something I stole from Norm’s closet)

Some of my tights have holes, but they look cool when I rock it up with the rest of the look.

              I get it!

I had to look up anaglypta wall paper. Yes.. paint over it sounds really cool.

Keep going! Use your arty self to decorate. I need to get some art renos going here.
First.. finish the new Art Gown!
              xxxxxxxxxxxxx

              1. Most of my clothes are charity shop rejects. For years I taught this lady who did a shift in this charity shop and every week she would give me a bag of stuff being flung out. Some brand new with the dog tags still on. Now I have not taught her since 2019 but I still have drawers of stuff, coats, jackets the lot and I mix ”em up. I can’t remember the last time I bought clothes. Gosh we do have a lot in common xx

                    1. Brilliant. You know we even have an old Voctorian mangle. The remvoal co had a great time with that when they moved us in here. We have the top half of an old house. I said to them, ‘Look on the bright side. I don’t want it up in the attic room……’ It is in the dining room with my ladies. xxxxxxxx (We got an old sewing Singer machine on its table too.)

                    2. Ah, the Victorians were innovative. Nothing like an old mangle..in cast Iron?
Those old singer machines are great. They still work, and always will.
Even needles could be hand made and used if need be. NO electricity (I’m assuming yours is a treadle).
The direction the world is headed these days, things form the past could become needed again in the future. xxxxxxx

                  1. Yeah it is a treadle, in a terrible mess too. The mangle was too and yep it’s cast iron, big’un. The funniest bit when we moved here was the older guy in charge of the ‘flit,’ asked me if I was the woman with the piano and the mangle. (Let’s face it there’s not many about.) And I said ‘Yeah.’ So he said, ‘Well missus, I’m one of the guys who stood outside against that back wall, it was a boiling hot day and you and your man brought out a crate of beer for us all, which would never be allowed now on a flit. It was nearly thirty years ago, I was a young man then but I have never forgotten it or the mangle.’ I said, ‘ Well here’s the bad news. I still got that mangle and that piano, and both are going to have to up some stairs….. BUT, I think I can find some beer.’

                    1. LOLOL!!!
                      Poor man.
Well beer is a lot easier come by than cast iron treadles and mangles.
Give away the beer and hang onto the iron!

“Treadles and Mangles”… that’s got to be the name of a Folk Music Group!

                1. Seems we do have a lot in common, dear Shey.
I need to get back to the basement. I have loads packed in there.
                  Time to renew the old!
                  xxx

  9. She is beautiful. I wonder where she is from? I wonder whether the artist knows this person?

Imagine taking this person on a wild salmon catching adventure through British Colombia. Now that would be rad.

    1. After 2 hours of walking, this was the only find. I was thrilled. It’s like being rewarded for exercising and being healthy. ❦❦🌹
