Holiday Mermaid Magic

I saw a mermaid, a half block away. Excitement, because mermaids are special.

I thought of Holly, poetry mermaid. I’ve drawn her as a mermaid, as well as: Gigi, Dale, Marina, and Rebecca; mermaids all & all in a slideshow at the end.

Then Abracadabra! A Unicorn appeared. Many of my talented WP friends jumped to mind. They create a lot of magic here.

The rest of the well painted mural, on a series of cement block supports between windows, wasn’t so exciting for me. It seemed naive. Still it was family oriented, and fitting for the holiday season.

After all, this month whether you celebrate: Hanukkah, Christmas, Yule, Winter Solstice or just the New Year – It is a family & friends time for many.

Unable to capture it in its massive entirety, due to heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic, it nonetheless feels like joy and enchantment. Here’s the rest!

Not a traditional holiday song, but it sure sounds & feels like one.

  1. Resa, “A Winter’s Tale” is truly a song for all seasons…and I think it was great you included it here. Peace sounds like a perfect gift for all of us to enjoy!

    1. Thank you, Bruce!
“A Winter’s Tale” is more wonderful than I ever remembered.
Peace is “the” gift this year.
      Happy happy to you!

  2. Timothy Price's avatar Timothy Price

Beautiful mermaid, horse and even a handsome prince charming. Your tree is magic and peace would be such a wonderful present.

    1. Thank you dear Tim! I love my tree, and It’s the perfect Christmas tree for me. OMG! Dreams.. I open a gift and inside is Peace. Like Pandora’s Box, the Peace is released unto posterity. xx

        1. Hey! Maybe it would help if instead of angry people saying go EF yourself to the object of their hate, they said”Go Pax yourself”!
          Just an idea. xx

        1. Hello Anita.
I was just on your blog. It says I have to subscribe to read & see your content. Thing is, I am subscribed.
So, I don’t know what is going on.
          Cheers!

    1. Yes, we need a lot more of all that. Earth is in a bit of a downward spiral right now.
Putting out good vibes is not the ultimate answer, but it can’t hurt.
I’m so grateful I have a home, food and a cat! xo

  3. Dear Resa, such a beautiful winters tale of mermaids and peace and love. All so breathtakingly lovely. You’ve brought the magic of the season to life … your choice of A Winter’s Tale is so perfect, Le’ sniff, sweet Meece. I’m wishing you a wonderful peaceful loving joyful holiday season, Thank you for this delightful gift for us all. 🎁

    1. Dear Holly,
I’m listening to “A Winter’s Tale” as I write you. I’m shivering. “Am I dreaming”? Sing Freddie!
That you like this post is special to me. You were my first thought when I saw the mermaid.
      So, it grew into this.
I wish all wonderful things for you dear Meece.
Happy Holidays, New Years and beyond!
      The song is over.
      I’m still shivering.
      xoxoxo

      1. I had the same reaction to “ am I dreaming”… I hadn’t heard this song before , it’s so heavenly and so perfect for you … am I dreaming that you are so kind and generous and a beautiful human being and woman and it’s such a gift to know you. Thank you for this, there we are , all the AGM’s transformed to mystical mermaids. I love that so much!
Peace and love and beautiful dreams dear Meece!
        xo🐭🐭❤️

        1. Am I dreaming that it’s a gift to know you, too? Fortunately, you are really real!
That song is now my fave Queen song. I read that Freddie wrote it in a 1 night’s inspiration.
I just love the AGM Mermaids! They are perfect for this post.
Peace and love to you too, dear Meece!
For many of us, It’s going to be a great year for art and gowns and poetry and love.
I wish the same for the world!
          ❤️🐭🐭❤️

            1. I was going to use “Give Peace a Chance”.
The hippies had it right. They just couldn’t make it stick. xoxoxo
              Adore you!
              Is it sunny in Miami?

              1. I was listening to Imagine a few days ago. Maybe I’ll use it at HoH for New Years.
Where are the hippies , we need them.
Maybe we should all start a hippie movement and be flower children 🌼🌸🌺

                1. Good idea!
I wish JL would have lived longer. He brought such a positive message with his music.
                  Flower children… I wish.
We should do a Flower Power revival with Boogapony in the New Year!
She’s the closest the world has right now.
                  In the meantime….
We are the Flower Power Meece!
                  🌼🐭🌸🐭🌺

                    1. Dang!!
This is nuts! The next sunny( or days with some sun) days are predicted for New Year’s Eve andNew Year’s Day. I’m living in a cave.

                    2. Oh goody! 🎄🌟🎄🌟xoxoxo
So, We had a fab Christmas (small 6 people) dinner, etc. on Christmas Eve. This morning we get a call that 2 have Covid. Now I’m in the 3-8 day window to see if I come down with it or not.

                    3. Oh for Pete’s sake! Fingers crossed every one will be ok. Esp you. I am meeting some family tomorrow for lunch( halfway ) and I’m not vaccinated ( I’ve been sick with asthma) so I’m kind of nervous. What a bummer this COVID is. A damn plague.
                      xoxoxo

  4. I particularly like how the mermaid in the mural appears to be part of the waves–and of course the “Mermaids’ Holiday” slideshow. I have the same Christmas present desire that you have. Have a wonderful Christmas, Resa!

    1. Thanks Dave!
It was fun making the post. It’s my last one of the year, but I’ll be using the time to visit and catch up.
I always seem to be behind with blogging.
I’m still thinking of a comment for your latest post.
      Lol! What else is new?

    1. Thanks Merril! Happy Holidays to you, too!
I know Hanukkah is over, but there’s lots of season left.
10:29 pm. eastern is the Winter Solstice. Yahoo!

So, I had a dream mail last night.
Email in a dream. (My first!) It was from you. It was important for me to know… the rest of the message was in pictograph form, several lines of hand drawings.
I began to decipher the message, then Jeep woke me up by traipsing back and forth over my body.
I put food in her bowl and went back to sleep.
I got another dream mail. It was from someone else, but I can’t remember who.
They said your message was important, and sent me the same pictographs.
As I woke up, I was determined to remember the images. I did for about 2 minutes.
Now, the only drawing I think I remember (not sure) is a camera.

I’m hoping to have the same dream, so I can figure the message. 💙

      1. We celebrate Christmas, too–and the solstice, and when our kids were in school, they had Saturnalia celebrations with the Latin club! 😊

But wow–that dream. Fascinating! So like me, you can sometimes read in dreams? That is wild. I just read your comment to my husband. I wonder what it was all about. Maybe I will try to dream it, too, tonight! 💙

        1. Cool! What a December you have.
Yeah, I can read in dreams. I just can’t make phone calls. 😵‍💫
Actually, it was one of the more interesting dreams I’ve had in awhile.
Maybe I’ll get another dream mail tonight. I’m going to sleep with pen and paper beside me. 💙

  5. Quite a few panels. They are all good, but I agree with you on the special two, the mermaid and unicorn. Yes, the best gift this year, and every year is PEACE!

    1. Peace… it’s so easy to say and want.
Oddly, there really are humans on earth who don’t want peace.
May a higher power infect their thoughts!
We are so fortunate to know it in our lifetime.
      PEACE… there’s a smile!

      1. Peace is much easier to say than to do. And there are many people who do not want peace. And many more who say they want peace but then act in violent ways. Sigh. I agree, may a higher power infect their minds, raise them up to what you and I consider “humanity”! Yes, my country has been at war many times in my life, but I have known only peace, and I feel very fortunate 🙂 Peace – no smile bigger.

          1. “Merry Christmas! War is Over (if you want it)” Yep. The FBI did follow him and did not want him to move here full time, but I don’t know if “larger powers” had anything to do with his death. But who knows? Well, if it is true, someone does…
I am no John Lennon, I am not a genius and I have an audience of dozens, not millions, but I do try to put across a positive message, including Peace. My astrophysics song was actually a call for peace… If more and more people push it, perhaps more will listen. You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one 😉

            1. Great comment, Trent!
We are both dreamers, as are many we hang with here on WP. 🤩 An audience of dozens is a fab start.
Which song is your astrophysics song?
              I’d like to listen, again!
              Send link! Lol!!!

  6. This post has it all, Resa – art, imagination, magic, beauty, nature, music, peace, and on top of it all, friendship. I think it’s the perfect holiday post. Have a lovely one and a glorious new year.

    1. Aww, thank you, Diana!
All those things you say “art, imagination, magic, beauty, nature, music, peace, and on top of it all, friendship” are what make life worth living.
Have a fab one too, Diana! Happy New Year and see you when the days are getting longer! xo

  7. Oh, Sorceress! You do know how to make the season bright! What a wonderful discovery. I love the innocence of it all. The primary colours – it’s like naïve art. Unicorns, mermaids, Freddie? All of it wonderful.
Thank you so much, my sweet friend. xoxoxoxo

    1. Thank you, Thunder!
I never know what I’ll find when I head out on an art hunt. I’d been walking over 2 hours before I found this, on an otherwise dry day.
It was especially fun making this post, because I knew the AGM Mermaids would be in it.
Oh… that song… Freddie’s voice and he wrote it in a night.
Sending love, light and hugs! xoxoxo

      1. Isn’t that the best?
And there ya go… patience and you were rewarded.
Oh yes… so good. Freddie was so marvellous.
        And your mermaids are divine.
        Light, love, peace, hugs. xoxoxo

  8. Oh, dahling, I’m all emotional now!
You create magic and from your heart magic flows!
I adore the mermaids, ALL of them!!!!
Lovely mural, especially the unicorn and the lambs!
To Peace and Love, my sweet friend
    and Joy!
Sending baskets of love and then more

Aww, well I’m just so happy to be here and know you guys, it just happens.
So, I’m thrilled you found some love in this holiday wish.
That Queen song is killer. It should become a holiday neo-classic.
All good things back to you, Marina dahling! (& a holiday kiss for S!)

      1. You are amazing, dahling!

  9. A Beautiful Winters Tale Resa… and Holly I know brings her magical words along with your magical Designs .. Loved the Mural Resa, and the slide show of Gowns…

Have a very Blessed special Holiday Season Resa.. Lots of love and Peaceful wishes your way ..
    Hugs Sue xx ❤

    1. Thank you for your lovely comment, Sue.
Yes, Holly’s poetry is like a beacon for me.
All good things to you, yours…peace, love, kindness and light.
This was my last post of the year, but I’ll be using the time to visit and catch up!
      Bid hugs…Resa xoxoxo

  10. Holly says it all in her comment. You are the most amazing lady. You share so much with us, and this post is a wonderful reminder of just how much. There’s artwork and art gowns, there’s beautiful music and then there’s your slide show of the AGMs. What a Christmas present. You are an absolute treasure. May you have many more dream emails, my friend. You are the best xxxxxxxxxxxx

    1. Let’s all have Dream mails!
Thank you for your lovely comment, Shey!
Hey, I adore you. I’m drawing Viking inspired gowns on the AGMs now. I’ve drawn you, but it’s not painted, yet.
Time to make tea and draw.
      You’re the best, too!
      xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

        1. Lol! Talent is free. The least I can do is share it.
Of course it takes one to know one, my talented friend!
Birds of a feather and all that.
If the dudes are around, tell them it’s “hamsters of a fur”!
          xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

  11. Thanks for sharing a delightful portrayal of some wonderfully talented and creative women in our community. I hope you enjoy the holidays and have a happy and healthy new year.

    1. What fun drawing my blog pals (AGMs) as mermaids. I’m onto Viking inspired gowns now.
You too Dan, have a fab holiday season. This was my last post of the year, but I’ll be using the time to visit and catch up. I’m the worst, most higgledy piggledy blogger.

  12. HI Resa, your drawings are stunning, as always. I do love the Gigi picture. So creative and different. The mural is gorgeous and I like the mermaid and unicorn too. Both of those magical creatures remind me of Teagan Geneviene and her magical writing.

    1. Thank you, Robbie!
Yes, I agree. Teagan’s imagination is a wonderland of ideas, and she puts them on paper for us.
      I’m loving the newest serial!
      Cheers!!

  13. A fantabulous festive timed mural full of family themes and magic mythologies- then you treat us with your artwork (impeccable as always) but to seal the deal you post Freddie and A Winter’s Tale! Funnily enough though it is another Queen song I remember at this time….Bohemian Rhapsody which claimed the No.1 spot in the UK charts 48 years ago and the week after I was born!
Thanks so much for all your gifts you’ve given us throughout the year, hope you experience the Peace you deserve and here’s to 2024!

    1. Top of the season to you, Tyeth!
      Love the Queen song!
…. 48 years ago… sheesh! I thought it was 48 weeks ago. Seems like it in many ways.
Thank you for your lovely comment! May the New Year bring you happiness, and lots of sabers!
      Cheers!

    1. Yes, best present ever!
      That song is crazy beautiful.
      Thank you, Frank!
It is a neat series, and my mermaids are a perfect topping.
I wish you all the best for the season and beyond.
Triple Cheers and triple Clinks! xo

  14. I’ve never heard that song of “Queen” before – it is so beautiful and enchanting! And Mermaids and Unicorns also fit perfectly for Christmas Holidays. 😉
Have a wonderful Christmas Time, dear Resa, I wish you all the best for you and your beloved ones.

    1. The “Queen” song is fabulous. Perfect for now.
You and yours have a terrific holiday season, Martha!
      Happy New Year!
      All the Best!
      xo 🌟🤗🥂💥✨🎉❄️💖

  15. Resa – a marvelous delight to be in the presence of friends who bring compassion and peace to our community.

Christmas, Hanukkah, Yule, Winter Solstice, New Years, Mermaids and Unicorns. A brilliant combination. I especially appreciated how mermaids and unicorns had a place in our festive month of December. The mystery, feminism, and untamed power of the ocean through mermaids. Purity, grace and enchantment through unicorns. You have given us the magic of the season. I am glad that we are entering 2024 together, my dear friend.

    1. It’s true Rebecca. We have some fab pals here on WP!
This mural didn’t seem to have a place, until I figured it was for the holidays.
We so need magic and peace.
Holly and I are going to revive Flower Power In a post featuring Boogapony, early in the new year.
In the meantime I’m busy with “Viking” inspired Art Gowns.
Are you ready for a hat with horns?
Best of everything to you and yours, Rebecca! Also, please send an extra ball of love and hugs to your sister Sarah and her husband!
      2024 – WOO HOO!

  16. That color blue and that color green! Is it sea foam green? It’s fantastic! Both colors are, they’re jumping off the page and into the water. Now I want to swim with them. . .

    1. Swim in the colours and swim with a mermaid!
I love the mermaid and unicorn. Christmas themed murals aren’t all the rage, but this worked out nicely!
      Holiday MUAH!!!!!

    1. Yes, the images are wonderful. I know, Freddie had the gift, and this song he wrote is a gift!
      Happy Holidays, Becky!

PS… I found an old McCall’s magazine. The paper doll of Betsy McCall is still in it.
      I thought of you!
I’ll take pics and post it …. soon ish!

  17. Look at those fabulous mermaids in all their glory that you drew! Each woman gets the spotlight, the creative spotlight 😀🧜‍♀️ I love that there’s a mermaid emoji! And the mermaid and unicorn you found on the buildings are awesome (just like you!!)

  18. The murals remind me of Peter Max’s work. We just returned from a very busy Christmas. I’m an exhausted – song by Queen is just the antidote – thank you! Yes, peace in 2024. Please.

    1. Almost!
I prefer not being aware of time. In that head space, it stands still.
That happens to me when I draw, sew or walk for art.
      🥂🎉🌟

      1. Time can be a nuisance. But my College days trained me to be very time-conscious. In the French system, you go to preparatory school after high school and cram every day for two years. Then you present competitive exams. No matter how good you are, there’s only a hundred spots at that school. And the programme is immense, so you cram every day 7/7 for two years. And end up with a clock in your head… LOL
