Cora’s Quest

Celebrating Lauren Scott’s New Book

Recently, wandering the urban forest, I espied a patch of colour. Turning the corner, a stunning autumn hued tarn with hikers appeared.

Instantly, I thought of Lauren Scott, and her love of country hiking. The next thought was “Isn’t she writing a children’s book? It must be almost finished.”

Well, I asked her. Turns out YES!  Cora’s Quest is just released! As we are having an endless postal strike in Canada, I purchased the EBook.

The Blurb

Cora is a curious fawn who loves spending time with her parents. On one beautiful day, they stroll deep into the wilderness. They trot along on the trails, and Cora finds other animals fascinating. They skitter and fly around her with joyful purpose. Every unique sound catches her attention, stirring her curiosity to discover just where that sound came from. But suddenly her delightful family day takes a turn that begins to test the courage inside of her

I know Lauren is unhappy with how the Ebook formatting came out. She got one from amazon. I got mine from Kobo. Yes, it is not perfect, but it’s all there.

Geared to 2- 5 year old children, this sweet and loving story, complete with enchanting illustrations by Chris Mendez, is the type of book a child might want to hold, carry around or even take to bed.

So, a real book works the magic an EBook can’t!

  1. Resa this a wonderful collaboration with Lauren – the mural was a brilliant way to connect with Lauren’s love of nature and her new book. I am celebrating with you both and grateful for your presence in my life.

    1. Hi Rebecca, thanks for joining in the celebration, and I agree with all you said about Resa’s creative way of celebrating my book. She is so clever and has a way of intertwining beauty of all kinds. I’m thrilled and so grateful!

    2. Rebecca, you are a dear heart, and I am grateful for you in my life..

It was one serendipitous day. First I found this mural, and thought of Lauren. Then I found a children’s mural based on Max and the Wild Things. I wondered if I could use that mural in a post for Lauren’s book, but after communicating with her, realized it was not in sync.

Well, the tarn mural was in sync. There you have it!

Dig art and be smart! (my newest saying)

  2. Excellent post, Resa! That is quite an illustrated wall. Congratulations to Lauren on her new book! A great mix of writing talent (hers) and drawing talent (Chris Mendez’s).

    1. I can’t believe where I found that wall. I didn’t have much hope to find art when I travelled to an odd part of mid-west Toronto proper.

Not only did I find art, but got a connection to Lauren and her new book.
In Chris’ bio at the end of the book, I found out he is colour blind.

All in all a fab experience!

  3. Very cool mural!

Looks like a great book 🙂 Congratulations to Lauren for getting out. Ugh, I hate formatting, and that is only words, not pictures – I can’t imagine doing it with pictures! I’m sure most readers will think it is fine 🙂

    1. Agree, pictures add to the confusion and difficulty. I think there are better ebook formatting options for the type of children’s picture story book Lauren did.

She’s going to try a different one next time.
Cripes, just making a post in the fancy editor is a challenge! 🕊🤍

    2. The mural is beautiful, and thanks for your kind words and wishes, Trent. You’re right, the pictures added a new layer of frustration. But like Resa said, I’ll go a different route next time. I hope readers will understand. Thanks again! 🙂

    1. Gi,
The book is A+ charming. It was a pleasure and honour to do this post for Lauren’s new book.
Chris, the illustrator is her nephew.. or cousin.. anyway he’s colour blind. I’m so impressed with the fab job he did!
      xxoo

      1. Hi Resa, I was also amazed that Chris (nephew) could create such beautiful art being color blind. But he has methods to help him. 100% of every piece of art he sells goes to his daughter’s medical needs. So, I was proud to collaborate with him. And he has a huge fan base. 🙂 He was excited to work with his ‘auntie’ too. Thanks for your kind words. I’ll pass them along to him. Hugs xoxoxo

  4. I love this post for Cora’s Quest, Resa! It’s gorgeous with those beautiful murals and Chris’ cover. What a visual treat you have created, and I can’t thank you enough for spreading the word for my first children’s book. Chris and I are thrilled! I love this line of yours, “..the type of book a child might want to hold, carry around or even take to bed. So, a real book works the magic an EBook can’t!” Wonderfully expressed! Thanks again, and big hugs! 💖🤗🙏🎉💖

    1. Dear Lauren,

I am so happy you like the post! Cora is a beautiful fawn, you have written her story enchantingly and Chris has illustrated her charmingly!

This was a fun experience for me. It’s a joy to know you!

      xo🕊🤍🦌

      1. Resa, your words are music to my ears, not an original phrase, but an honest one. 🙂 I’m so glad you enjoyed Cora’s story. I had fun going back and forth with you on this too, and it’s a joy to know you, my friend! xoxoxoxoxo

  5. Ohhh lovely! What a stunning mural, and it’s amazing how you managed to connect it so well with Lauren’s book. LOVE that illustration of Cora the curious fawn, and it certainly sounds like a sweet children’s story.

Wonderful post, Resa, you never cease to amaze me! 🤩

    1. It’s an enchanting children’s story. Although Lauren is an adult, there is an enchantment about her and her writing.

Thank you for you compliment, Ruth!!!

    2. Thank you, Ruth, for your lovely words about the cover and book. I’ll let Chris know! This was his first book to illustrate and my first children’s book. So it was a magical experience for both of us. And I feel the same way about Resa and her creativity! She did it again! She’s created fab posts for my last two books and now Cora. How can I not feel grateful?! 🥰💞🙏🎉

    1. Thanks Dave!
Although, truly, the mural picked me. Lauren loves her nature hikes, so when I saw the art, she just popped into mind!
I love when art makes me think of someone.

    1. Welcome, Jean Marc, and thanks for checking it out!
Maybe in the new year..weeks away, you will let me post some of your life drawings? I can add purchase links.
      🕊🤍❦

      1. Yes Resa any time you wish to do so, if you feel like it, I would like that; did pay for another session, drawing not a problem, taking pics seems harder 😀

        1. Well by the time I will do this …January, you should have enough pics! (maybe 6 is good!)

So glad to hear you enrolled for another session!
          xo

    1. It is lovely, Aladin!
The illustrations are gorgeous. I was shocked and pleasantly surprised to find out the artist, Chris, is colour blind.
Thank you for your lovely comment!
      🕊🤍❦🕊🤍❦🕊🤍❦
(I’m on the PEACE kick again!)

  6. Love your mural photographs, Resa. The colors are striking, and I love the way the trees blend into (and sort of intertwine with) the bricks. It gives buildings a new blast of life, I think, when art is brought to their walls! “Cora’s Quest” sounds like a beautifully sweet, yet thoughtful book. I think it would make a great wee stocking filler for loads of kids; I’d have certainly loved to have had this book to read when I was a wee thing 💙🦌💜📚

    1. Lauren did great!! She is dear heart. Or in this case, a deer heart.
      xoxoxoxoxo

PS.. I must have taken 300 pics. I’m still going through them.
I’m down to 35, so should send something tonight, or tomorrow for sure! xoxoxoxo

        1. Yeah, so like a nut, I just took some using artificial light. Maybe I’ll send 2 emails – 1 with faves and one with artsy options. Sigh. Stop me before I spread!
          xoxoxoxo

                1. SENT!!!!
Omg, I did some arty messaging with the special choices. I feel sad the way it seems the women’s movement is either stalled, or moving backwards.
Anyway, you’ll read my “arty” notes.

  7. Resa

You are correcto, those colors ARE absolutely stunning. It pulls you in and warms you up just like a big old hug. I really dig that.

I think this turned out beautifully.

    1. Dahling!

      It’s a simply mahvellous book!

Thanks for popping by and help Lauren and me celebrate her new book!

      xoxoxoxoxoxoxxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

  8. You found a lovely mural to complement Lauren’s colorful book. I read it this morning and thought it was delightful. How kind of you to share it, Resa. Hugs to you and huge congrats to Lauren.

    1. Diana,

Yes, it is a fab mural, and did call out Lauren to me when I saw it.

I can’t seem to do a normal review, so these out of the box celebrations seem to be working for me.

Well, I sure had some fun with Lauren! Thank you for your kind words!

      🕊🤍🌹

      Okay…now… sewing…for sure…must break free of computer!!!

    1. Merril, that mural reeled me in. I was across the street, and saw this blob of fab colour on a wall near the sidewalk. I went over, and turned a corner… there it was.
Closest to nature I’ve been in years…Okay the park!

      Lauren’s book is enchanting!

  9. I love the mural and it is a perfect accompaniment to Lauren’s writing. Her picture book sounds wonderful and I look forward to reading it soon. A great review.

    1. Thanks Dawn!

Oh, how wonderful, a hard copy.

Canada’s postal service has been on strike for almost a month. Even Fed-Ex & Purolator have stopped taking packages to Canada, due to overload. No end in sight.
      So, I did the EBook.
      I am happy I did!

    2. Thanks for visiting Resa, Dawn! She is known for her creative and stunning book promotions/reviews. I’m honored that Cora’s Quest is the third book of mine that she’s supported. And I’m thrilled that your paperback will come soon. I hope you enjoy Cora’s tale. It’s short and sweet. Thanks again! 🙂 💖

Great post and book, Lauren! Huge congrats to you. I agree there is nothing better than holding a physical copy of a book, especially a children book. I enjoyed it and plan to see it in a book soon.

    Thanks for hosting, Resa xo

    1. You are welcome, Denise!
This was fun for me, and it all started with that mural. Then when I found out the book was nigh, Lauren couldn’t get rid of me.
      🕊🤍🦌✨

    2. Thanks again, Denise! Your support really means a lot, and I’m thrilled that you’re waiting for the paperback too. Chris, the illustrator, told me today that his local library just ordered copies. That’s exciting! Once I get more copies next week, I’ll contact local bookstores and cross my fingers. 🙂 Thanks again, and Resa has been a terrific host! ❤️🤗🎉

      1. Ahh, bookstores and libraries!
        Talk about success, Lauren.
We have a massive library system and I live a couple of blocks from one of the children’s branches.
I wonder if they will get the book? I’m going to ask next time I go.
        I love using the library!

        1. I know, that was exciting to hear from Chris today! Oh, wow, that’s so nice of you to ask, Resa! Keep me posted, as I know you will. 🙂 I participated in a poetry reading at our local library a few months ago. Libraries are wonderful! xoxoxo

    1. Thank you, Steve! It was a new experience for me, being so in time with a book release.I loved it, and I adore the book and its author.

I adore art that is outdoors, because it is for everyone. Not all can afford to go to the art gallery.
Thank you for your visit and comment!

  11. How nice! The colors of the painting are so beautiful and what a great idea to link it with Lauren new release.

Just discovering your blog and looking forward to reading new posts!

    1. I’m glad you found Resa, Marie! Everything she shares is incredible! Not to mention her creative and gorgeous book promotions and reviews. I’m always honored to be featured here. And thank you for your continued support too! Hugs xoxo

  12. You did an amazing job on Cora’s Quest, Resa and I know how happy Lauren was with your shout out. I commented on her site thinking it was too you. I’m not sure if I’m coming or going at the moment. LOVE these beautiful murals! I also had a peek at your amazing gowns which always blow me away!!! 💗

    1. Awww, Cindy, thank you for this most lovely comment!
I totally get what you mean by coming or going. There are so many fabulous bloggers we follow. How is it possible to visit everyone, and still get to make posts, answer comments and sleep?
There’s a new Art Gown just finishing up! She will be posted this month! (I hope)
      🌹🤍🕊xx

    2. Thanks for flying over here, Cindy, in the midst of ‘coming and going.’ I get it! Resa did a fab job, and I’m still happy dancing! Or happy deer dancing, I should say! LOL I love this mural too and how she tied it into my love of nature. Gratitude explosion! And I agree about her stunning gowns too! Hugs to you both! xoxox
