Frank Zappa

I found Frank Zappa Today!

I adore the characterization.

The trees and ivy obscured the art and its message.

It says: Stupidity Has A Certain Charm

Ignorance Does Not

I had to take this from an angle. The angle was in the first lane of west bound traffic in the road. I waited until the light was red both ways , then made my moves. Most excitement I’ve had in 2 years!

As a Veggie, I chose this song, my fave vegetable song, ever!

    1. Agree! The quote is cool!
Beth! I didn’t recognize you in your new pic! I kept saying whose that, a new follower? Guess I better put my glasses on!

    1. Agree! I’ve found many a Zappa reblog on Art Towards a Happy Day. Then when I click the link, I end up on my fave music station- Oannes!

  1. What a serendipitous find! We’ll have to say thanks to Norm for stopping to let you capture this fabulous mural! It’s a beauty and I love that quote and tune 😉

    1. Such a lucky find! If we hadn’t had to take 3 hours out of our lives to go pick up mail (due to the f^(&!ng construction work) I might not have found it. I did notice quite a few other murals, but I shot them all about 3 years ago.
Soon… soon… I should be able to get around to different areas of the city. 😀

  2. There’s no mistaking that facial hair and brow! I have to say though you do take some chances/risks in getting these pictures – standing in the middle of a highway? I’m glad your ankle held up to the the road hopping. Thanks as always.

    1. Thanks Tyeth!
      Thrilled I captured Zappa!
Yeah, my ankle held up. It’s pretty good these days, but it still gets tired if I walk too long!

  3. Frank Zappa – you brought so many memories back for me with this post. He was a fabulous musician and a remarkable philosopher. He pushed the boundaries and thrived in complexities. Thank you, dear Resa for this treasure.

    “Information is not knowledge.
    Knowledge is not wisdom.
    Wisdom is not truth.
    Truth is not beauty.
    Beauty is not love.
    Love is not music.
    Music is THE BEST.”
    Frank Zappa

    1. I agree with you about Zappa!
He’s been gone 28 years. He was definitely ahead of his time, and many of us joined him on his way.
Love this quote, Rebecca!!!!! Thank you!

  4. ‘Zappa’. Just the name takes me back in time…a time when most days I wasn’t quite sure if drug induced insanity was a good thing. It felt good but one never knows. Superb art and song. Regards, TOF

    1. True…it felt good. TOF, I think it was a good thing, because there was no social media to perpetuate it. Of course …well.. I did get on the news. Hopefully that piece of film is buried alive, or rotted.

    1. It’s quite a cool take. Then again, he was very cool!
The first time I heard “Call Any Vegetable” I knew I had a theme song for life.
While I was at a Mothers concert, hearing it live, the place I lived at was being raided (pot & LSD).
They didn’t find the big stash, only a little one. Hauled everyone at home in.
Whew! This Meece got lucky! Thanks, FZ!
      🐭💞🐭 xoxoxo

      1. Holy cow, we’ve been lucky Meece. I once on a whim went to an Outlaws Biker party off US1 in Davie. They had a big field all set up with bands etc. okay, so we and and two other couples just pull on in there. After a bit we said hey let’s get the heck out of here. After we got home we were watching the news to find out that the big party was raided just about 15 minutes after we left. I’m glad you didn’t get hauled in. We’re wild Meece! Lolol! 💞

  5. Ohhhhhhhhh…… what a brilliant brilliant mural and I love the artist’s lines [perfect eyebrow capture! 😉 ] and I know one more person who will most definitely appreciate this: O! 😉
    Love it, dahling!

    1. What glee when I found this!
I’m thrilled the person shared this outdoors. It’s cool enough to take a place in the home.
I can hardly wait for O to see it! Hope you guys like the song I picked!
      Dahling!

  6. Resa, this is so cool. The artist did a great job of capturing his look and essence. He was not scared to speaking his mind, even when making a statement through naming his children. Keith

    1. True, Kieth!
Moon Unit, Dweezil, Diva & Ahmet.
FZ was crazy, in the good way!
Too bad when his wife died (2015), she left Diva and Ahmet in control of the fortune.

    1. It was a lucky day! We drove 3 hours to get our undelivered mail (due to the effin ongoing construction).
      Then there he was…

        1. Yes, true, and I got my mail.
Today there were no planks over the ditch that used to be a sidewalk.
          Think I’ll draw tonight!
I drew Dale the other night… very nice one! Tonight I’l draw one of Holly’s characters! That way I can have the game on, and only look up when someone scores.

          1. I rarely pay attention to games excepting for the last few weeks I guess. I always have something else going on while I peek now and again. Or the other thing I do, I turn it off for a while and forget I was watching. WTH.

  7. Really enjoyed this mural of Frank Zappa, Resa, it’s a wonderful interpretation, and quote. I enjoyed hearing how you captured this mural, and appreciate your skill in it.

    1. Thank you, Jet!
It was a wonderful find, and yes, I did have to get a bit creative to capture it!
The quote is very cool. He was a thinker!

  8. Glad you survived getting that one shot, Resa, but my burning questions is, did you see any mothers inventing nearby? 🙂 Good quote as well. Thanks for your efforts to bring us these looks at Frank.

    janet

    1. No one was inventing anything, except me. I was creating how to capture this with all the tree leaves and ivy.
Guess, I’m a mother of invention, in my own right! 😀

    1. I still listen to some of his songs. “Call Any Vegetable” is one of the theme songs of my life.
I still laugh when I hear “Movin’ to Montana Soon Gonna Be a Dental Floss Tycoon”
      The quote is totally cool!

  11. Lol! Thank you.
I’ve posted almost 1,500 posts with images, on street art.
I’ve taken 98% of the pics. A few friends who live in other cities have taken some for me.

    1. Ahh, he was a unique music artist. He never stopped evolving.
He died in 1993. You weren’t even born.
      Crazy!
Still, I listen to a lot of music artists from before I was born. I especially like the blues singers. The recordings are old and scratchy. I’m okay with that.
I adore that there are talents like you who keep music written before recordings alive, and actually create modern recordings!

      1. I was born in November 1993. I’ll look Frank Zapper up. It’s like books some get slight re-writes to bring them up to date music also gets new editions. It would be interesting to travel 200 years in to the future to see if people will re-record Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton songs or modern writers like Adele or Ed Sheeran.

  12. Gray Dawster

It’s amazing how when viewing art that close up views look rather unremarkable and yet taken from the road, both traffic signals at red, the unmistakable artistry comes into view.

This artist really added a masterpiece with this offering, and I like the quote too. Brilliant.

Thank you for all your fine efforts to show off these fantastic graffiti arts to us Resa, you’re a star in your own right.

    1. Thank you Andro!
I’m getting close to 1500 posts. That’s almost 1500 pieces of street art. There’s the odd book review and a few art and poetry reblogs.
      WooHoo!

      1. Gray Dawster

That’s a fantastic achievement my dear friend, and you’ve certainly put the effort in over the course of your time in WordPress, whereas I have completely lost my way.

It takes a lot of dedication to continue, and your awesome street art posts are second to none, I know that I am a poor follower with sometimes very lengthy pauses in my visits but it is always an absolute thrill to call into your space and view your great adventures.

        1,500 posts wooooooo-hooooooo indeed 🙂

        (((Hugs)))
